00:00And let's talk about some of the top headlines we've got today, and we're going to start
00:08in the world of soccer.
00:11It was a huge day on the pitch yesterday on Sunday, and it started in the early afternoon
00:18as the Euro Cup finals were underway.
00:23And last night, of course, we had the Copa America, and that is where we are going to
00:30start here because the Copa America was all sorts of fun last night, especially when you
00:37take into consideration that they had a bit of a problem getting fans into the stadium.
00:44We'll have more on that coming up, but the defending champion, Argentina, that's right,
00:51the defending Copa America Cup Argentina winners overcame the loss of Lionel Messi
00:56to win a record 16th Copa America title by beating Colombia 1-0.
01:03And it all came down to a late extra time goal from their substitute player, Latoro
01:10Martinez, at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.
01:15And Martinez, who played for Inter Milan, was the tournament's leading scorer.
01:20He ended up catching a pass in the 112th minute and was able to get it over the Colombia
01:27goalkeeper Camilo Vargas, and that is all she wrote they said.
01:33Messi appeared to suffer a non-contact injury while he was running and then fell straight
01:41to the ground right around the 64th minute.
01:44He did cover his face with his hands.
01:46They had a towel over him as he sat on the bench.
01:49He was very distraught that he wasn't able to be out there with his teammates.
01:55But of course, it didn't matter anyway, because they are once again champions.
02:02And that is what it was all about there.
02:05So congratulations to Argentina getting it done last night.
02:10And earlier in the day, the European Championship, and look at this, Spain won the European Championship
02:19for a record-breaking fourth time, edging the clear, I would believe, in Germany, the
02:27clear favorites for most of the tournament, that being England.
02:32And unfortunately, they were not able to get it done, England.
02:37But France and England were the favorites for most of this tournament, but nobody seemed
02:43to pay any attention to Spain.
02:46And yet they were the team that scored the most goals in this tournament.
02:50They won all seven matches in the tournament, and they only needed extra time once.
02:57They were without a doubt the best team throughout this EuroCup tournament.
03:03And they are, by the way, they are the only men's team to win all seven games at the Euro.
03:09So we're talking about an extremely impressive team.
03:14And they showed resilience, of course, that being England, as once again, they fell behind
03:20in this game, which is what they pretty much had been doing all throughout the tournament.
03:26And this is a team that has a lot of question marks surrounding it, including with their
03:32coach Garrett Southgate, will he or won't he return?
03:36There are people looking for blood that follow England and love this team.
03:41And there is no doubt when you continue to fall short of the goals and not being able
03:47to win a EuroCup championship, but continue to make it somehow to the finals.
03:54That is a problem.
03:55Also a problem is Harry Kane, who was removed from the game in the championship game yesterday,
04:04which turns out to be maybe the best thing that England did, given the fact that their
04:09entire game plan changed when he was out.
04:12They were much quicker.
04:14They were much crisper.
04:16The rumor is and the storyline around Harry Kane, of course, one of the greatest of all time
04:21for England, is the simple fact that at 31 years old, he's a little bit slower.
04:26He was a little bit out of shape, they said.
04:29It was just not the same old, same old for Harry Kane.
04:32So where does that team go from there?
04:35Only time will tell.
04:37But congratulations to both Argentina and to Spain.
04:41They are your champions in the Copa America and the EuroCup.
04:46We also yesterday had the finals in the 2024 Wimbledon men's side.
04:54And Carlos Alcarez is your winner.
04:57He won his second consecutive title 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 over the 24-time Grand Slam champion,
05:06Novak Djokovic.
05:09This is his fourth major trophy here, folks.
05:12And he is absolutely the future of this sport.
05:16Don't forget, he also claimed the French Open title last month.
05:20And he is just the sixth man to win both in the Open era.
05:25The first since, you guessed it, Novak Djokovic back in 2021.
05:31Here is what the champion Alcarez had to say after his win against one of the all-time
05:37greats.
05:38Well, honestly, it is a dream for me winning this trophy.
05:43Yeah, I think in an interview when I was 12 or 11 years old, I said that my dream is to
05:50win Wimbledon.
05:53So I'm repeating my dream, I want to keep going.
06:00But obviously, it's a great feeling to play in this beautiful court, to live this amazing
06:06trophy.
06:07I'm going to say, or I said it before, that for me, this is the most beautiful tournament,
06:12the most beautiful court, and obviously, the most beautiful trophy.
06:18It is absolutely unbelievable.
06:20And at 21, he now has more major titles than any of the big three did before the age of
06:2822.
06:30His fellow countryman Rafael Nadal had three, Djokovic and Federer had one each by the time
06:37they turned 22.
06:39And Alcarez is my goodness.
06:42He is the future of this sport.
06:44And quite honestly, he dominated the first two sets before Novak even made or could make
06:51any adjustments.
06:52Now, keep in mind, Novak was 37 years old, coming off of knee surgery a couple of months
06:57back.
06:58He was maybe 75% best.
07:01The fact that he even made it to the finals was kind of crazy.
07:05But your winner, Carlos Alcarez, at 21 years old, kudos to him.
07:09The women's side was decided on Saturday, number 31, Krejcikova, Barbara Krejcikova
07:15prevailed 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 over number 7, Jasmine Paolini, to earn her first Wimbledon title
07:23and her first title since the 2021 French Open.
07:29We did have a Major League Baseball draft last night, if you didn't see it there, as
07:35all the games ended right around 6.30, 7 o'clock.
07:39And the Guardians had the first selection, and they went with Oregon State's second baseman,
07:46the new number one overall pick here this year.
07:49And this kid, he's from Australia, Hornsby, Australia, Bazzana is his name.
07:55He's 21 years old.
07:56He is absolutely unbelievable to watch.
08:00He's also the first Australian-born player to be selected number one overall.
08:06And if you didn't get a chance to see this kid play, I don't know how long he's going
08:10to be in the minors, but this kid is something else.
08:14He was also offered a contract by the Tigers at age 16, but he decided not to take that.
08:21He decided to bet on himself, go the college route to boost his stock.
08:26And I will tell you, that is going to go down in history as maybe one of the best gambles
08:31that has paid off for a player in a very, very long time.
08:36So kudos to him.
08:37We've got plenty more Major League Baseball to talk about, including a meltdown by the
08:43New York Yankees yesterday in the ninth inning.
08:46They have lost 18 of their past 26 games as we get ready for the all-star game.
08:52And them and the Dodgers are absolutely head-scratching.
08:56Another come-from-behind win for Detroit yesterday.
08:59We are shaking our heads.
