00:00Estonia's Prime Minister Kaja Kallis has stepped down as the leader of the Baltic country to become the foreign policy chief of the European Union.
00:09The move automatically triggered the resignation of her cabinet.
00:13However, it will continue as a caretaker government until a new cabinet is sworn in within the next few months.
00:20Climate Minister Kristin Mikkel was selected as Prime Minister candidate to replace Kallis.
00:26The 46-year-old former economics and justice minister met with the Estonian president for talks.
00:32We discussed the main themes of the coalition consultations,
00:37such as how to increase housing, how to improve our infrastructure,
00:42what are the plans in the defense sector, what additional requirements could be there,
00:47and what is the wider future of Estonia.
00:50Kallis is one of the EU's most outspoken critics of Russia since their invasion of Ukraine,
00:56acting as a driving force in efforts to punish them with sanctions and send military support to Ukraine.
