00:00Hi there, this is the zzz sound, as in the words as, his and always.
00:14The zzz sound is a sound from the consonant pairs group and it is called the voiced alveolar
00:22sibilant. This means that you create friction through clenched teeth by directing airflow
00:29with the tip of the tongue. The zzz sound is made through the mouth and it is voiced
00:36which means that you vibrate your vocal cords to make the sound.
00:41It is defined by the shape of your teeth and the position of your tongue and it is a sibilant
00:47which is a sound made by directing a stream of air with the tongue towards the sharp edge
00:52of the teeth. To produce the sound, clench your teeth lightly together and put your tongue
00:59just behind them, restricting airflow to a narrow channel over the tongue and through
01:04the teeth. Then you push air through the channel and through the teeth whilst voicing out.
01:16The zzz sound is normally spelled with the letter z, as in the words citizen, but it
01:27can also be spelled with the letters s-e or x, as in the words these, because and exactly.
