00:00This press conference was really a make-or-break event for him.
00:03What's been the fallout like since?
00:06Well, it's sort of good but not good enough and not bad but not bad enough.
00:13I'm going to explain this.
00:14Really, this was a make-or-break.
00:16Everybody wanted to see how he was going to perform.
00:19And so, yes, as we saw in that report,
00:22there were several gaffes in the lead-up to the press conference and in the press conference.
00:28But the rest of that presser, about an hour-long presser, also showed Joe Biden
00:34as someone who really has a very good grasp on matters of foreign policy.
00:40Especially, he was answering at length and detail questions,
00:45very pointed questions about foreign policy.
00:48So it wasn't bad enough to open the floodgates of people saying that he needed to step aside.
00:55It was nothing near what happened at the debate.
00:59But at the same time, it wasn't perfect enough that it completely shut the door
01:04to those who still have concerns about whether or not he is fit to run this campaign
01:10and even less so to serve another four years.
01:14And the sign of that was that there were several more lawmakers,
01:18Democratic lawmakers, on the Hill who, after that press conference,
01:22came out publicly to call on him to step aside.
01:25The number is now at around 17 or 18 Democratic members of Congress.
01:31But so far, some of the top lawmakers like Hakeem Jeffries, like Nancy Pelosi, like Jim Clyburn,
01:40they still seem to be standing by, at least publicly, standing behind Joe Biden.
01:45Hakeem Jeffries, who's the House Democratic minority leader,
01:49had a meeting after that press conference in private at the White House with Joe Biden
01:54to share with him the concerns of the Democratic caucus.
01:57He didn't say what was the response from Joe Biden.
02:01But the latest sign that things are still not over for Joe Biden when it comes to
02:06concerns about his fitness is that there's a report that just came out from The New York Times
02:11saying that several donors apparently have told the Democratic National Committee
02:16and some of the super PACs that they will freeze their pledged millions of dollars of donation
02:22unless Joe Biden steps aside.
02:24If that is confirmed, that is a very clear sign that things are not going very good for Joe Biden.
02:31And the spotlight has obviously been very much on Joe Biden.
02:34But the next few days are going to be very decisive
02:36for Donald Trump ahead of the Republican convention.
02:40Yes, Donald Trump is really in the final stretch of his sort of
02:45the end of the primary campaign, if you will,
02:47because the convention is going to be kicking off on Monday, running until Thursday.
02:53And this will be really very different for Donald Trump
02:56than what happened the previous time he ran in 2016.
03:00And in 2020, he sort of came in in 2016 as the underdog,
03:06in 2020 as a candidate that not all Republicans were really behind.
03:11He was being criticized within his own parties.
03:14Within his own party.
03:15But this time around, he has sort of shut down all the critics.
03:19Everyone who was disagreeing with him has been pushed aside in the Republican Party.
03:23So this will be really about celebrating Donald Trump.
03:26But the real big news part of the next few days for Donald Trump
03:31will be the pick of his vice president.
03:34He still hasn't given a sign as to who that will be,
03:38but it is likely to happen before Monday night.
03:41So we'll have that name.
03:43It seems that the shortlist is three people, three men.
03:47There's J.D. Vance, the senator of Ohio,
03:50Doug Burnham, who is the governor of North Dakota,
03:54and Marco Rubio, senator from Florida.
03:57Donald Trump has been criticizing them, praising them,
04:00criticizing them, praising them,
04:02not really giving a hint as to who he has chosen.
04:04And there still could be a surprise.
04:06But this is really something that will bring Donald Trump back in the spotlight.
04:11And of course, on Thursday, there will be his big speech at the convention,
04:15which will be the highlight of that time for Donald Trump.
