00:00The clock is ticking down on who will and how to govern France.
00:05The first day of the new National Assembly is next Thursday, the 18th of July.
00:10And that means that Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, as well as 16 other current ministers,
00:15will need to step down by the 17th in order to take on their roles in Parliament.
00:20There's also the impending start of the Olympic Games and who will govern during them.
00:24Even the issue of speeding things up and getting a coalition done
00:29or keeping the government in place until a deal is made, well it's a divisive one.
00:34Emmanuel Macron called in a letter for patience, as did his Minister for Gender Equality,
00:39all the while setting her terms for working or not with the left.
00:44If a new government is created and within it there is even a single France-embowed MP
00:48or secretary of that party, then we would immediately call for a vote of no confidence
00:53and we wouldn't be the only ones.
00:55This means that government wouldn't live for more than a few days or even hours.
00:59The far-right's national rally agrees with this view and it also threatened a vote of no confidence.
01:05A similar stance was previously expressed by the head of the Senate, the Republican Gérard Larcher.
01:10His refusal to work with the left's France-embowed,
01:13which represents a significant block of the left alliance, was shot down by the Greens.
01:19You can try and hold on to power, like a barnacle to a rock, or act like they won.
01:23That's not the reality.
01:25I keep saying we do not have an absolute majority, but they have even less of one.
01:30The Green Party's national secretary said that negotiations are coming along,
01:34but she stayed mum about what names are being put forth for France's next Prime Minister.
01:39That is, if the President accepts to name one of their picks.
01:43Legally, the President is relatively free to name his choice in Prime Minister,
01:48but in reality, he must take into account, like in all parliamentary systems,
01:53whether there is an alliance or not.
01:55If there isn't one, he'll have to decide whether to give a minority government its chance.
01:59With negotiations still underway left, right and centre,
02:02political manoeuvrings remain in full swing in France.
