00:00Everything I need to survive is strapped to my paddleboard and my dog and I are ready to camp for a few days.
00:04The goal is to find a secluded island only big enough for the two of us.
00:07We found this lake by looking at Google Maps, so let's go see what we can find.
00:10There's a bit more stuff on the paddleboard than normal because we are camping.
00:14There's so many islands to choose from.
00:25Oh wow, it goes so much faster when Kiro's not on here.
00:28Kiro, let's go!
00:31You're really leaning one way, buddy.
00:34It was a lot more even before we stopped at that first island.
00:37The wind is really picking up, so we gotta push forward and get there.
00:41Come here.
00:42No, come here.
00:49Okay, that bed cannot be there.
00:51Oh my gosh.
00:59It's gonna fall.
01:01I think I gotta take the bags off first.
01:13There's noises coming from the other side of this little island, but I think it's just crows.
01:18I'm a little creeped out to go over there.
01:20It looks like people had a little bushcraft camp over here.
01:23There's some very interesting huts that I don't think we'll be sleeping in but are very impressive.
01:28Oh my god, there's a toilet.
01:32We docked here and you can already see there's other islands to explore,
01:35so if anyone were to come and try and camp while we were,
01:39I probably would have moved islands because the best part of this is that Kiro can just roam free and go wherever
01:45because it is really small, you can see the border, and that's it. This is the whole thing.
01:49But we're gonna give you the grand tour of this island.
01:51It looks like whoever built this put a lot of work into it.
01:54So this is the kitchen area, I think.
01:56We have the fire pit right here.
01:58I mean, that table is impressive. Come on.
02:00Shelter number one and shelter number two.
02:03I would love to build a little shelter like this just for funsies.
02:07I never did that as a kid.
02:12So I forgot something really important.
02:14My bear spray.
02:15That is the one thing I'm most scared of out here.
02:18Not just bears that bear spray protects you from, right?
02:21It's mountain lions and other people.
02:27You guarding the shore, buddy?
02:40So we're making a couscous dish tonight.
02:43We're gonna go for like a Greek Mediterranean thing.
02:45Couscous is awesome because all you have to do is equal parts water to couscous.
02:50You boil the water, add the couscous, let it sit, and then it's pretty much done.
02:53So I'm using a jet boil to boil the water.
02:55So I'm making about 200 milliliters of couscous.
02:59I'm gonna do 200 milliliters of water.
03:02That's all you need.
03:03This is the lid of the jet boil.
03:15I forgot my cutting board, so we're using couscous wrapper.
03:30A little Greek feta dressing in there.
03:35And we got some crumbled feta.
03:40I think it tastes way better than it looks.
03:42It's really good.
03:44I think my Ursac bear bag is gonna be more helpful for the crows than the bears tonight.
03:48Well, this is a really cool spot.
03:50There is no bugs.
03:52I guess because it's on an island?
03:54Is there usually no bugs on islands?
03:56I don't think so.
03:57It was a little windy earlier, but it's such a beautiful night.
04:00I cannot believe I forgot my bear spray.
04:02That is the one thing.
04:03I would have rather forgotten my stove over my bear spray.
04:06Typically in the summer, there's always a fire ban in this area.
04:10So, no fires.
04:14So, I've got one of these bear bag Ursacs that I'm going to hang in the tree.
04:24It also helps against rodents and anything else on the ground.
04:27So, with Kuro and I, for two days, this is stuff to the brim.
04:30Probably actually would have preferred a larger one, but this will be good for when I go backpacking for like a night or two.
04:35So, to put it up in the tree, you make sure the strings are crisscrossed in there and you pull.
04:39No gaps.
04:41And then you double.
04:43You knot it.
04:44And then another knot to seal it.
04:50Put it through my left hand.
04:52Turn clockwise so that you make a little loop.
04:56And grab the piece of rope that is on this side, not the loose end.
05:00And now you have your loop.
05:03And you do that on both sides.
05:06This guy goes through here.
05:08And we're going to tighten this one.
05:11And then you put the carabiner on the other one.
05:16And so now, when you pull, it is super strong and super tight.
05:23And Ursac says apparently a bear can't pull that through unless they chew through the rope, which is unlikely.
05:36Oh, you don't like that?
05:40But it's your bed.
05:43Look what I found!
05:45In my dry bag. I didn't even open it because it just has my long pants and sweater that I didn't need.
05:50And my toiletries.
05:52Excuse me, sir. Do I need to get you your own pillow?
05:56Kiro is a big pillow guy.
05:58This is his bed.
05:59This is mine.
06:01I got the bear spray.
06:03I'll protect us.
06:14Good morning!
06:16We're free.
06:18It was a gorgeous sunrise this morning, but I stayed in my tent.
06:22Nice and cozy.
06:30Looks like northern Ontario here.
06:32It is going to be a beautiful day.
06:34So excited. I'm going to go swimming.
06:36And we're going to explore all the islands and the mainland that you can only access by crossing this lake.
06:42But first, let's make some breakfast.
06:44There's either a really loud crow or a chimpanzee crying in the background.
06:50Considering we're in Canada, I hope it's not the chimp.
06:53I'm going to get chai tea instead of coffee. Who am I?
07:03Is this riveting content or what?
07:05I like to have YouTube videos on in the background while I'm cooking food or just doing something at home.
07:11I think that's my goal with this video is to just sit back and unwind from the day.
07:17As someone who works Monday to Friday, I love just putting on a YouTube video at the end of the day and just chilling.
07:22So thanks for coming camping with me, but we've got more to do today.
07:28For breakfast, originally I brought some oatmeal and you just put it in one of these silicone stasher bags and then pour hot water in it and it's ready to go.
07:36But I'm not really that hungry, so I think I'm just going to grab a bar and then we'll make some wraps for lunch later.
07:41And I dehydrated some strawberries and apples and you just throw that in the oatmeal too. It's really good.
07:52You have to try and get the bags as even as possible so that you're not paddling harder on one side.
08:09What a pack job. I'm proud of that.
08:14Tripod, tripod, little purse bag, pump, day bag, giant 70 liter day bag.
08:22And all I couldn't fit was a little hose, which I probably could have fit, but Kira can just sit on that.
08:26All right, let's go explore some islands.
08:31Oh, it didn't even get wet. Not a drop.
08:35You're a professional at this now.
08:45We've checked out a few islands now and a lot of them are just marshy, but this one is pretty cool.
08:52It's so sturdy.
08:55Wow, those are giant lily pads.
08:59Kira was just falling in the water and he immediately swam to the edge.
09:04We weren't far off from the edge, but now I can't get there.
09:07Kira, good boy.
09:12Kira, come here.
09:18Good boy.
09:23That was cool, y'all.
09:25We've paddled about five kilometers going back and forth.
09:28It's taken a few hours, but I think it's time to go swimming.
09:31I thought about stopping at Walmart and picking up a fishing rod because this lake is really amazing for fishing.
09:35I think I need to watch a few more YouTube videos before I purchase a rod.
09:39What bait am I supposed to get? I don't know, but I will figure it out and we'll have a catch and cook video soon.
09:48This lake trip was really fun, but I'm craving some mountain time, so I think that's what we'll be doing next.
09:52Thanks for being here and thank you to the Patreon community for helping produce these videos.
09:56I think that's it for this week, but we will see you next week. Bye!
