The public is urged to think rationally before making any form of donations to social media influencers or NGOs on the pretext of helping the less fortunate, says Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf.
The Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director told a press conference on Friday (July 12) that easily sympathising with those facing hardship has opened up opportunities for certain quarters to take advantage of their generosity in the guise of collecting donations.

00:00Dr. Sri, there have been a lot of investigations related to the case of Andy Ur and Pong Pengarok in Jakarta,
00:06regarding the use of drugs.
00:08Yes.
00:08So, what is the view of the NSDK in this regard, and does the NSDK receive a lot of advice and reports?
00:15Our view, first of all,
00:18as a whole, our society has a lot of empathy and sympathy.
00:23We are easily pushed
00:26to situations
00:29that are sad, tragic, and so on,
00:34so that we are encouraged to help as much as possible,
00:37including giving donations and so on.
00:41In that good intention,
00:43opportunities are also seen
00:45by those who are irresponsible
00:48to get into trouble,
00:51so to speak.
00:53That is what happens
00:55in various situations.
01:00Some offer
01:04donations
01:06for victims, for example.
01:10Some offer donations
01:13for public services.
01:16Some offer donations
01:20for flood disasters,
01:24for other victims,
01:27and so on.
01:29So, we advise to be careful
01:34in our actions.
01:37Because actions
01:41eventually
01:45result in
01:47police reports, because they have been deceived.
01:52And this is repeated,
01:55either from NGOs
01:58or individuals.
02:00And usually, to
02:03halal this,
02:06NGOs are made,
02:08without a specific audit.
02:11This audit must be done.
02:14Because of that, we must know
02:16where our money is being channelled.
02:20And for audits and so on,
02:23of course, the organization must be registered
02:28so that it is more legitimate, so to speak.
02:32So, I advise not to
02:34give out
02:37donations to any individuals
02:40or any
02:42organizations,
02:44companies, and so on, that we doubt
02:47that there is no registration or we do not know
02:52who is behind it.
02:54Because such cases can occur.
02:57Lately, for the past two weeks, we have seen
03:00a lot of posts on social media
03:02about dissatisfaction or discontent
03:06from many people who say that
03:10their donations, their donations have been misused.
03:14So, if we want to do good deeds,
03:19we also need to be careful so that
03:23we are not deceived.
