President Biden will face extensive questioning from the media during a news conference on Thursday. His performance at the press conference could determine the future of his campaign.
Transcript
00:00President Biden's political future could all come down to a single news conference set to take place later today.
00:07It could show Mr. Biden's last chance, or could be his last chance, to revive his re-election campaign.
00:12Doug Luzader has more from Washington.
00:15Well, the White House has taken to calling this a big boy press conference today,
00:19meaning the president will face extensive questioning from the media, and it is going to be a critical test.
00:25May we continue to grow stronger and closer in all the years ahead.
00:30President Biden leading a toast to the future at the NATO summit in Washington,
00:35just as his own political fortunes remain cloudy.
00:38We're all encouraging him to make that decision, because time is running short.
00:45Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a key Biden ally, sent a not-so-subtle message yesterday
00:51suggesting the president should rethink his decision to stay in the race.
00:55More Democrats in Congress, including a senator now, say he should exit.
01:00Biden advisers today will meet with Senate Democrats hoping to keep the rest on board,
01:04and the president does have some support.
01:07I'm showing up with brass knuckles, and I'm all in on Joe Biden.
01:11But to make matters worse for the president, actor George Clooney,
01:14who just last month hosted a glitzy Hollywood fundraiser for the president,
01:19wrote in the New York Times that he should drop out.
01:22It's devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fundraiser
01:27was not the Joe big effing deal Biden of 2010.
01:31He wasn't even the Joe Biden of 2020.
01:33He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.
01:36This is the next domino. We've seen it with donors, we're seeing it with Hollywood,
01:40we've seen it with the mainstream media, allies that the president had.
01:43The bigger problem here is that as long as this conversation is dominating the campaign,
01:50Trump is winning.
01:51But Biden has been emphatic he will remain in the race, he says,
01:54with a campaign stop set for tomorrow in Michigan.
01:58In Washington, I'm Doug Gluzzator for Good Day.
