Emily Bader, Edward Bluemel & Jordan Peters, the stars of ‘My Lady Jane,’ may be proper Kings, Lords & Ladies, but do their opinions on common courtesies reflect their reign? From normalizing forgetting people’s names to reacting to their parents setting them up on a blind date, the actors share what they consider to be proper etiquette in challenging and awkward situations. Watch as Emily, Edward & Jordan give advice for a friend getting involved with a Henry VIII type, and how they’d practice forgiveness if an A-list celebrity spilled a drink on them.

00:00They might have even thought I was friends with Harry Styles.
00:02Are you?
00:03Nah, he won't respond to my DMs.
00:07Welcome to Common Courtesy with Town & Country.
00:11Today we'll be assessing your etiquette.
00:15I feel like I do have quite good manners.
00:17I say sorry a lot. Maybe I say sorry a bit too much.
00:19I think I have okay manners, but you know,
00:21I haven't really tested it yet, so we're going to find out today.
00:24Your parents set you up on a blind date and it does not go well.
00:30How do you let them know you prefer it doesn't happen again?
00:34I don't think it would have happened in the first place, to be honest.
00:37I'll make them go on a blind date and then they'll know how it feels to go on a blind date.
00:41But we're two different people.
00:43You're like an anti-parent trap for your parents.
00:46I'll be really fascinated to see who my parents with blind dates set me up with.
00:49I don't know who they have in their minds.
00:50Who's like the perfect?
00:51I'm going to text them after this and be like, do it.
00:54I want to know who they've got, who they've got lined up.
00:57You're attending an event and a guest excitedly greets you with a hug.
01:01You'll recognise them, but cannot recall their name.
01:05How do you proceed?
01:06Fake it, you fake it.
01:08Hey mate, how are you?
01:11Pal is what I would do probably.
01:14That's what I would do as well, yeah.
01:16Hey champion.
01:18But you know what, I would get, if someone is there with me, I'd be like,
01:21could you introduce yourself to them?
01:24Yeah, you get someone else.
01:25Yeah, get someone else.
01:26I also think though, I think we should normalise forgetting people's names.
01:29I think it's something that's really annoying.
01:31You should be able to say,
01:32I'm so sorry, I've forgotten your name and no one's weird about it.
01:35Yeah.
01:35It's true because if it happened to me, I would not be bothered.
01:37I don't know what your name is.
01:41You're hosting a dinner party and one of your guests
01:45keeps correcting your grammar when you speak.
01:48What do you say to them?
01:50Shut up.
01:51Yeah.
01:52It's a bit rude.
01:54Correcting grammar is something that was very sort of big in like 2011.
01:57Throughout the show, Jane is constantly being told how she should behave as a woman
02:01and that does go into the way that she speaks.
02:04You know, she's incredibly intelligent.
02:05She doesn't use a lot of flowery words to avoid what she's trying to say.
02:10So yeah, there's a lot of, don't say what, say pardon.
02:13Which is just, pardon, pardon me.
02:15Do you guys actually say that?
02:17Yeah, I get in trouble for that when I say what.
02:19You do?
02:19Yeah, when I was younger, yeah.
02:22Don't say what, say pardon.
02:23Oh, this is a real thing?
02:23Yeah, it's a real thing.
02:24I thought this was like a tutor type thing.
02:26Manners thing is just like, it's not nice to just say what.
02:29It's a bit rude.
02:30I feel like if you say like, I beg your pardon,
02:32it almost comes across kind of mean.
02:35Does it?
02:36In America.
02:36But on the American accent, it doesn't work as well.
02:39I beg your pardon.
02:40No, it's not good.
02:41I beg your pardon.
02:42I'm being an American accent.
02:43With a twang.
02:45I beg your pardon.
02:48I do beg your pardon.
02:50An industry friend begins criticising your new project
02:55and giving you unsolicited advice.
02:58How do you respond?
03:00In the past, I took it pretty bad.
03:01I would like get into arguments.
03:03She's like, why are you telling me not to do that?
03:05Of course, who do you think you are?
03:06But now I'm a change man.
03:09I've seen people lose their head at getting a line read,
03:12which is fabulous to watch, but it's not ideal.
03:14It's a working environment.
03:16You meet someone at a bar and sparks fly,
03:20but the bar is becoming rowdy with over-served patrons.
03:24Do you stay to further your connection or escape the chaos?
03:30I think if their sparks are flying,
03:32it's quite entertaining to have some rowdiness
03:34with which you can sort of chat about and observe together.
03:38If the sparks are flying, then, you know,
03:41just keep them flying in chaos, you know.
03:42Never walk away from the sparks.
03:44And it'd be like an amazing moment you'll never forget.
03:48When you get married to them, it'd be like,
03:49I remember that time when I met you.
03:50And your best man's doing this.
03:52And he's like, and they're at the bar,
03:54and it was kicking off, but they stayed.
03:56They stayed.
03:57And that just goes to show.
03:58And it showed the immense wisdom.
03:59And he's crying.
04:00But also, there's nothing wrong with, like,
04:02a good conversation on a night walk home.
04:05Your cab driver recognizes you
04:07and starts to praise your performance,
04:10but he's confused you with another actor.
04:12Do you correct them?
04:14I don't know.
04:15I think that's sweet.
04:16People kept tweeting at me at one time
04:19saying I was really good in Dunkirk
04:20because I look like they've put every actor in Dunkirk
04:23into one human.
04:24And I just said, thanks.
04:26It's a good film.
04:28If it's a project I hate, I'd be like,
04:29oh, no, not about that.
04:30But I was like, absolutely.
04:32I love that they believe that I could be
04:33in a Christopher Nolan movie.
04:34Hey, especially if it's a great project.
04:36I mean, then take it.
04:37Exactly.
04:38They might have even thought I was friends
04:39with Harry Styles.
04:41Nah, he won't respond to my DMs.
04:45You meet your new co-star who you really admire
04:49and accidentally reveal you've looked
04:51to their social media several times.
04:54They are taken aback.
04:56How do you recover?
04:57I knew your CV off by heart before I met you.
04:59Oh, 100%.
05:00I used to be able to recite her IMDb like that.
05:02And I did it.
05:02I did it every day.
05:03But 2015.
05:05Paranormal activities, six.
05:07Seven.
05:08Seven.
05:10I'm not the man I used to be.
05:12In that situation,
05:13I am always the person that can't do the cool thing.
05:16I can't do the thing where you pretend
05:18you don't know who they are.
05:20Like, I have to be like,
05:20oh, I've loved you and Dunkirk.
05:23Yeah.
05:23I don't think I'd be ashamed if I accidentally let on
05:26that I'd Googled them.
05:27It's all you're sending them letters.
05:29Yeah.
05:29You want to scope out your work colleagues.
05:31If they're taken aback,
05:32then I'd be like, why are you taking aback?
05:35You've got an amazing CV.
05:36No, that is, yeah.
05:37No, it's true, yeah.
05:38But for me, I'll just be like,
05:40oh, maybe I shouldn't have said that.
05:42And then I'll just go into my head
05:43and just think about a lot of things.
05:43And then you live in constant regret for like six days.
05:45Constant regret.
05:46And then I just feel like,
05:46maybe I shouldn't speak to them ever again.
05:48And then they'll probably be thinking,
05:49why is he so distant?
05:50And that's your relationship with Harry Styles
05:52from Dunkirk, ruined.
05:54You're at an industry party
05:57wearing an expensive outfit
05:59you've borrowed from a designer.
06:01An A-list celebrity spills their cocktail all over you.
06:06How do you handle the situation?
06:08This actually just happened to me.
06:10I was wearing a cool outfit
06:13and the lovely person that was coming up
06:15who dressed me to say like, how's it going?
06:19As she walked up,
06:20someone spilled their espresso martini
06:22right down the front.
06:23That's the worst stain as well.
06:24But actually she was so nice.
06:26She was like, it's denim, it'll be fine.
06:28Oh, that's nice.
06:29So honestly, maybe you just pray for forgiveness
06:31and then they're nice about it.
06:33If it's someone, you know, really famous,
06:36you've got a nice little anecdote to take home with you.
06:39Renée Zellweger ruined my Gucci.
06:42Come on, that's great.
06:44But I wouldn't be mean to Renée.
06:45I'd be like, come on, it happens to the best of us
06:49and you are one of the best of us.
06:51And then there's like a spark.
06:54And then the bar starts going up in flames, but you stay.
06:59A friend gets involved with a Henry VIII type.
07:03He's been married five times
07:06with less than ideal outcomes.
07:09Do you intervene?
07:11Five times?
07:12It's hard.
07:12They've been married five times.
07:14Take some artistic license with the question,
07:16like, because I'd be like, you know, our age as well.
07:18I'd be like, gosh, you're getting through those marriages.
07:21They're probably a pretty wild person.
07:22Maybe there's some positives to that wildness,
07:25but I'd be like, if they propose, don't say yes.
07:29I feel like you do that thing where you sort of like
07:32are skirting around what you really want to say.
07:34So you're like, we love them, right?
07:36They're great.
07:38They're great.
07:39They're interesting people.
07:41And then eventually kind of pull it out.
07:43I think me, I'll just be straight up.
07:48You're really the voice of reason in this,
07:50which is so important.
07:52It's like five times, right?
07:54I just have to meet them.
07:56Well, especially at like 26.
07:57You're 26.
07:58They'd be like a celebrity to me, a five-time marriage at 26.
08:01I'd be like, I'm so in awe of your work.
08:04There's a lot of stuff that a person has to just
08:06do a lot of therapy.
08:07Five times.
08:07There must be a reason why.
08:08Also the money, my God.
08:10Yeah, the money.
08:10Doesn't mean they're rich though.
08:12Thank you guys for watching us on Town and Country.
08:14And please go watch My Lady Jane on Prime Video.
