00:00We are celebrating the life of Grammy award-winning singer and beloved actress Olivia Newton-John.
00:06The Grease and Xanadu star died Monday morning at her home in Southern California after a valiant
00:11fight with breast cancer. Amy is here with more on her life and legacy from pop star,
00:16movie star, and we both know how passionate she was about cancer research and treatment.
00:21She, she was truly a magical person and I know that Olivia Newton-John once said
00:26music is a healer. Well, her voice brought so much light and love into the hearts of her fans
00:31all around the world. The tributes pouring in for this amazingly warm woman who her
00:36Grease co-star Stockard Channing said was the essence of summer. Tell me about it.
00:44Charming her way into the hearts of millions, Olivia Newton-John.
00:57Becoming a superstar on the big screen for decades. Famously winning over John Travolta.
01:05And viewers as the lovable Sandy.
01:15In the 1978 hit Grease. Passing away Monday morning after her battle with breast cancer.
01:22Born in England in 1948 and raised in Melbourne, Australia from the age of five.
01:27Newton-John's first passion was music. Appearing on talent shows. Her singing career skyrocketed
01:33selling over 100 million albums. Her smash hit Physical named Billboard's biggest hit of the 80s.
01:42Newton-John taking home four Grammy awards for pop hits throughout the 70s and early 80s.
01:52Her starring role in the musical Xanadu becoming a fan favorite.
01:58But it was that 1978 leading role as transfer student turned pink lady.
02:10That catapulted her to the top. Starring alongside then rising star John Travolta's love interest.
02:16Her health took a turn. Diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time in 1992.
02:22Undergoing surgery and chemotherapy. Living in remission for 25 years. She became a fierce
02:28advocate for detection. Opening foundations devoted to cancer research and treatment.
02:33In 2017 she revealed her cancer had returned and spread to her bones. Her husband telling the world
02:39she died peacefully at her Southern California ranch. Surrounded by her family and friends.
02:45Overnight tributes pouring in for the woman who always shined with love and light. She just
02:50embodied that glow. She was a person who did not meander through life. She penetrated existence and
02:56her artistry is a manifestation of all of that love and light that she is. Earlier this morning
03:11GMA speaking with her friend and song collaborator David Foster. She's the only superstar
03:18that didn't act like a superstar. She would always just float into the studio with the
03:22best attitude. She really was America's sweetheart but she was Australian. Actor Hugh Jackman writing
03:28one of the great privileges of my life was getting to know her. It's no secret Olivia was my first
03:33crush. Her Grease co-star John Travolta writing your impact was incredible. I love you so much.
03:47We will see you down the road. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever. You're Danny
03:53you're John. The pair reuniting in recent years for charity. Speaking with me in 2012 about their
03:58friendship and how they help one another. We really trust each other and we're good friends and
04:08we never doubt that we'll be there for each other and that's just a fact and I think we keep our
04:14friendship at a high criteria and we deliver for each other you know it's just that simple. Seeing
04:20experience making that movie it was incredible and we're both so grateful that people still love
04:25that film and they're still discovering it. Olivia Newton-John is survived by her husband
04:34John her daughter Chloe a brother a sister several nieces and nephews and her daughter posting

04:44she wrote I worship this woman my mother my best friend. Her family is asking that any donations
04:50made in her memory go to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund and it was so wild yesterday when
04:55I came into work I was listening to my favorite Olivia Newton-John song Magic. I was singing it
05:01as I came into the studio yesterday with no idea obviously what was going to happen but
05:05she was magic wasn't she she she just embodied love and light and all the things that people
05:10have said about her she's just I mean it was weird not talking to you guys I wanted to turn
05:14I know you had such a personal connection with her too and I think we all feel the loss
05:18but she leaves so much behind yeah she was so genuine so genuine magic's one of my favorite
