00:00Mr. Speaker, I yield myself as much time as I may consume.
00:03The gentleman is recognized.
00:04Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
00:05I rise in strong support of H.R. 7637, the Refrigerator Freedom Act, and I thank Congresswoman
00:11Miller-Meeks for leading these efforts.
00:13You know, throughout this Congress, the Energy and Commerce Committee has heard time after
00:17time how this administration has prioritized a radical climate agenda over the needs of
00:21everyday Americans.
00:22If you listen to the last debate, you'll see a lot of that.
00:25The fact is the American people cannot afford President Biden's energy policies.
00:29They're expensive, they're unreliable, and they're diminishing the quality of life for
00:33folks across the country.
00:34House Republicans are tired of this administration trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the
00:38American people.
00:39We're tired of them putting the interests of the climate lobby over those of hardworking
00:43Americans.
00:44The Biden administration's obsession with rationing our abundant energy is reducing
00:47the quality of life for Americans.
00:48They are making it more difficult and more expensive for you to cook your food and heat
00:53your homes and all the other things that we've talked about over the last number of debates
00:57on these issues.
00:58With record high inflation, out-of-control utility bills, unaffordable home prices, the
01:02Biden administration's efficiency regulations will make household appliances more expensive.
01:07That's just the bottom line.
01:08The Department of Energy's proposed standards for refrigerators and freezers yield nearly
01:13nonexistent savings.
01:15The life cycle cost savings for these products is only three cents over the course of 9.3
01:21years.
01:22Three cents over nine years.
01:25Thanks to the Biden administration, Americans will spend 34% more on appliances a day than
01:29they did just a decade ago.
01:31These appliances are not only more expensive, they are of lesser quality, include fewer
01:36features that Americans rely on, and they have a shorter lifespan.
01:41These efficiency standards reflect just how out-of-touch the Biden administration is with
01:45everyday Americans who are struggling to make ends meet.
01:49This legislation will prevent the DOE from enforcing standards for refrigerators and
01:53freezers unless they are, once again, technologically feasible and economically justified, which
01:59are not likely to result in additional costs to the consumer, and unless they will result
02:07in a significant cost conservation of energy.
02:12This bill will protect affordability, quality, and choice for Americans for the refrigerators
02:17and freezers they buy.
02:19It puts the Americans' interests first.
02:21I urge my colleagues to support H.R. 7637, the Refrigerator Freedom Act, and I thank
02:26Representative Miller-Meeks for leading this legislation, and I reserve the balance.
