00:00First of all, congratulations, Ryan, because it's a huge accomplishment getting a show
00:04that you've written made.
00:05Thank you very much.
00:06Then to get Mr. Danny Dyer in it, you must be...
00:09Well, I wrote it for him and only him, and so I'd have been screwed if he couldn't have
00:15done it. Let's be honest, there's not many replacements for Mr. Daniel Dyer.
00:20There is not.
00:21There's not, you know...
00:22I don't think he realised my desperation at this point in my career where I was begging
00:27for anything, and Ryan came up with a good...
00:30I mean, what a privilege, what a gift Lee was. It's such a special show, this.
00:38It's great.
00:39And it really does tackle some stuff that I don't think people are going to expect.
00:43I love a relatable comedy, which this very much is. Is it relatable to you, though? I
00:48mean, I love the stuff, like, talking about Matalan and Martin Lewis. That's relatable
00:52to me.
00:54Someone said to me, one of the actresses who came in to audition for it, she said,
00:57I mean, it's Gavin and Stacey in Hell. And I was like, great, that's exactly what I'm
01:02going for. Brilliant.
01:04Yeah, I don't know, I just think it's about, do you care about these people? That's the
01:09key, isn't it? You've got to care about them and follow them on this journey. But do you
01:14buy that we're brothers?
01:15Yes.
01:16And I think there's a moment you go, this can't be true until we go into our spoon
01:19dancing.
01:20Oh, the spoon dance.
01:21And then you go, oh, they are brothers.
01:24But it's a love story. And it's a love story between two brothers.
01:28Yes.
01:29That, you know, need each other. Need each other desperately.
01:32Opposite men who are trying to go about being men in their opposite ways, but it's kind
01:37of messing them both up. And then they're forced to come together and they kind of end
01:40up fixing each other's lives.
01:41They do. And there was so much more dancing in here than I anticipated. How long did it
01:47take you guys to get that choreography down?
01:50I wrote it and in stage directions it was like, it's Vegas, it's Michael Fadler, Lord
01:53of the Dance. Then it came to doing it and I was like, oh God, we've now got to-
01:56We both had a bit of fear around it.
01:58A lot of fear.
01:59It's such an important part of the show. So, you know, the fact that we had to nail
02:03it. And it's a tight schedule, you know, you haven't got time. So we rehearsed it, we had
02:06videos of it and we kept going over and over it and we nailed it. It didn't take long.
02:11We did.
02:12Yeah, yeah.
02:13And it was a relief when it was done. It was like, that's done.
02:15Yes.
02:16There was even a bit of ballroom, I guess, as well.
02:19Yeah, I mean, it was all kind of-
02:21I mean, loads of dancing.
02:22All genres mixed together.
02:23Yeah, that was it.
02:24I think it was every genre whacked into one dance and the spoons on top.
02:29Yeah. You really got something in here for everyone.
02:31Oh yeah.
02:32Everyone. Strictly next then, right?
02:34Not for me, darling. I mean, I get arsed every year.
02:37Exactly.
02:38There's not enough money in it. It's a tough gig. So, not for me. I don't want to be the
02:44jokey one on it as well, you know, with all me belly hanging out.
02:46No one wants to be that.
02:47We want to see me.
02:48With someone dragging them round. Do you know what I mean?
02:50I don't want to be the John Sargent of the series.
02:52Oh, that's poor Sargent.
02:53No one wants to be that. You are the star, Danny.
02:56I don't think so. Again, I'm too lazy at this point in my career and it's a tough gig.
03:01So good luck to anyone who's doing it.
03:03Yeah, props to them for doing it because they have to put their hours in.
03:05Yeah.
03:06And live telly every weekend.
03:08Well, at least you wrote just six episodes. So therefore, this is great.
03:12Yes.
03:13You could not be too lazy.
03:14We are hoping for more though. We do want another series.
03:17We'd like another series.
03:18So the powers that be, we are ready.
03:21Speak it into existence.
03:23This brotherly bond, did you guys do any activities to cement that brotherly bond beforehand?
03:30We had to learn a dance.
03:32That's probably all you need.
03:33I mean, try learning a dance. I remember when he rocked up on day one and we started it.
03:37And he was in like his Hermes belt and the tight jeans and I was like, I know he's...
03:42I swore then.
03:44I remember when he rocked up on day one and we come into the rehearsal room to start rehearsing this dance.
03:49And he rocks up in his Hermes belt and his tight jeans and I'm thinking,
03:52bloody hell, he's not going to be able to get his way around this dance.
03:54And he did and I was like, look at him go, the sneaky hips on him.
03:57We had to commit, didn't we both?
03:58We had to commit. He's a mover.
04:00He is a mover.
04:01I'm a mover only for about four minutes and then, you know...
04:04It stuck with me. That's why...
04:06Really?
04:07Yeah, I was like...
04:08I'm hoping that the audience will just be completely freaked out by it.
04:12Because you don't know it's going this way.
04:14You don't see it coming, do you really?
04:16You don't see it coming.
04:17No, because why would you?
04:18And then it ends and you go...
04:20A bit like the character Kirsty.
04:22It's like, what on earth have I just watched?
04:24Yeah, yeah.
04:25So...
04:26Loved it. Loved it.
04:27Did you take any artistic license with this script or did Ryan write plenty in there for you?
04:33I didn't really need to do much with it.
04:34I was tweaked slightly.
04:35It was a couple of little things.
04:36It was all on the page, which is an absolute joy as an actor.
04:39You can't ask for any more, so...
04:41And of course he wrote it for me, so therefore there is some colourful language.
04:45There's some colourful language.
04:47Just a little disclaimer.
04:48But it's all about intent.
04:49It's nothing...
04:50Yes, it's appropriately used.
04:51It's nothing aggressive, really.
04:52Very tasteful.
04:53Don't worry.
04:54Very tasteful.
04:55And it needs to be in there.
04:56It's the character, what Lee is.
04:58Lee is the opposite to Glenn, who, you know, is a straight goer.
05:03He is.
05:04Who works in a carpet shop.
05:06He's a carpet specialist.
05:07Exactly, right?
05:08So, if you guys were going to have that relatable job that isn't in acting, what would it be
05:14that is your equivalent of working in a carpet store?
05:17It's a good question, that one, isn't it?
05:20I mean, I don't know.
05:21I'd end up...
05:22I don't know.
05:23I've only got here by hook and by crook, honestly.
05:25At any moment now, I feel like it's going to be whipped away from me.
05:28So, I don't know.
05:30I don't want to slander any jobs because it's going to...
05:32You never know.
05:33That's very true.
05:34Next year.
05:35I'd like to...
05:36And I do apologise if there's any vegans watching.
05:38But I would like to have me...
05:39I'd like to sort of have a store where I sell hog roast.
05:43You know, you have a pig on a stick.
05:45It turns you on.
05:46I'm fascinated by it.
05:47And it's the best crackling you'll ever eat.
05:48So...
05:49I can see you roasting.
05:50I can see it.
05:51You can see me with my little apron on and, you know.
05:52A little side hustle, Danny.
05:53It never hurts.
05:54I do love a hog roast.
05:55And again, I do apologise.
05:57But...
05:58I like to hog a roast.
05:59Just have it all to myself.
06:00Yeah, no.
06:01Right.
06:02Listen, it's great.
06:03Honestly.
06:04Thank you.
06:05So, congratulations.
06:06Thanks so much.
06:07Get writing the second series because you never know.
06:08Oh, I am.
06:09It's well underway, don't worry.
06:10There you go.
06:11Guys, good luck with it when it comes out.
06:12Thank you.
06:13You're very kind.
06:14Lovely to speak to you.
06:15Thank you.
06:16You're amazing.
06:17Thanks so much.
06:18Ta.
