The White House faced scrutiny over visits by a Parkinson's specialist to President Biden. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre denied Biden is being treated for Parkinson's but initially refused to confirm the doctor's visits, leading to tense exchanges with reporters. A later memo from Biden's physician clarified the visits were routine and not specific to Biden. Despite calls from some Democrats to end his campaign, Biden remains committed to running for re-election.

00:00The White House is facing questions about President Biden's health after reports of
00:25visit by a Parkinson's disease specialist.
00:28White House visitor logs show Dr. Kevin Kennard, an expert in Parkinson's, visiting the White
00:33House eight times between last summer and spring.
00:37This led to intense questioning of Press Secretary Corrine Jean-Pierre during a briefing.
00:42Jean-Pierre firmly denied that Biden is being treated for Parkinson's or taking medications
01:48security reasons.
01:50This also led to a tense exchange with the reporters.
01:54The press secretary at that time explained that Biden sees a neurologist annually as
01:58a part of his physical examinations.
02:00Still, she wouldn't confirm if these visits were at the White House or Walter Reed National
02:05Military Medical Center.
02:07And so, now in response to these mounting questions, the White House has now released
02:11a memo from Biden's physician, Dr. Kevin O'Connor.
02:16The memo clarified that Dr. Kennard was the neurologist specialist who examined Biden
02:21for each of his annual physicals.
02:24O'Connor stated that Biden has not seen a neurologist outside of these annual exams.
02:31The memo also explained that Dr. Kennard has been the neurology consultant to the White
02:35House Medical Unit since 2012.
02:38His regular visits to the White House were primarily to support the thousands of active-duty
02:42military personnel assigned to White House operations, many of whom experienced neurological
02:47issues related to their service.
02:50These health-related questions come at a time when Biden is already facing criticism over
02:55his age and fitness for the office, particularly after a challenging debate performance against
03:00the former President Donald Trump.
03:11Despite calls from some Democrats for him to end his re-election campaign, Biden remains
03:16adamant about staying in the race.
03:18Even the first lady, Jill Biden, has voiced her support for her husband's re-election,
03:24saying that she is all in as well.
03:26However, some Democrats, like the Washington representative Adam Smith, believe that the
03:31party will be better off with another nominee.
03:34Despite these challenges, many Democratic lawmakers also continue to support Biden's
03:38candidacy.
03:39The situation highlights the ongoing debate within the Democratic Party about Biden's
03:44fitness for the office and his chances in the 2024 election.
