The Youth and Sports Ministry will not approve allocations through the Sports Matching Grant (GPS) or the Community Sports Fund (DSK) if tobacco companies, electronic cigarette companies, or alcohol brands are involved, following amendments to the Safe Sport Code.

After launching an anti-smoking campaign on Wednesday (July 10), Minister Hannah Yeoh emphasised that any event found to have involvement from these companies after approval will be cancelled by the ministry, as their participation is deemed harmful to everyone.

00:00Congratulations to the honourable Speaker. Please be seated.
00:06I would like to comment on the Sukan Selamat Code, which we have improved,
00:11and the ban on the involvement of tobacco, cigarette, electronic and alcohol products companies.
00:19And for all applicants for the grant of the Sukan Selamat Code,
00:25the Sukan Community Fund, in the Ministry of Justice and Sukan,
00:29any illegal activities involving vaping, smoking, alcohol, we will not grant the grant.
00:37And if we pass the application, and if we see a picture, we will verify it.
00:45And if there is, we will cancel it.
00:47We will not grant any grant for activities involving tobacco or the use of electronic products like this.
00:58And we, as stadium owners and stadium administrators, will continue to enforce the same ban.
01:06When did the ban come into effect?
01:08After the issue of vaping, and we know that in the media, there are many children who use these devices.
01:17We, as a ministry that promotes a healthy lifestyle, will not allow it.
01:23That's why we look at our Sukan Selamat Code, and we improve it from there.
01:27And we make control through the grant.
01:30Because many organizations do not have sufficient funds,
01:34that's why they depend on the grants that the Ministry of Justice and Sukan gives.
01:38We make control like that.
01:40After the update of the case on February 2, there was an agreement between the two sides.
01:44That's right.
01:45There was a sponsor of vaping who went in to sell in their program.
01:50We have indeed updated our Sukan Selamat Code, and we will not allow it.
01:53We are monitoring the grant now.
01:56What about the stadium earlier? Maybe after this, people will not be able to bring the ball to the stadium.
02:01Indeed, it is not allowed now.
02:03They cannot bring the ball to the stadium.
02:06This is the latest news.
02:08Yes.
02:09Because for vaping and smoking, it involves other people around us.
02:19So it is indeed unsafe.
02:21That's why we use the Sukan Selamat Code.
