00:00Gavin, pre-season run out against Basingstone tonight. Thoughts on that?
00:05Plenty of positives tonight. I was a little bit disappointed on Saturday in terms of from what we've seen in training to what people delivered on the day.
00:14But it was a tough, tough ask to throw two sides together and try and compete and string things, you know, play how we want to play.
00:23Didn't really do that Saturday. Second half was better. But tonight, I look at it, both halves of football with two different teams was positive.
00:34A lot of players who impressed tonight, whereas there's probably two or three Saturday.
00:40You know, I think everyone did themselves justice. So, yeah, from our point of view, the process is there with a whole new group of players.
00:47And, you know, what Vic's teaching them and getting us to do, I felt they listened, implemented it.
00:53Still work to do, you know, going forward. But that's, as we said last year, it's always the hardest bit to do.
00:58So the fact that both teams were able to do what we want tonight against the side that were lively and put a lot of pressure on.
01:05Obviously, we gifted them a few goals, but they, you know, probably well worthy of scoring four goals.
01:10But I felt the goals that they did score, we gifted, we gave the ball away to sloppy passes, which happens, you know, when people don't know each other that well.
01:19So, yeah, loads and loads of positives. The group, the group's got more players to add to it on Thursday, people back from holiday.
01:26So the competition is getting really strong. But I would say everyone tonight has done themselves a good, good service, to be fair.
01:33Early in pre-season, but you can already see that, you know, possession style tonight was sort of evident, you know, it was sort of into them, wasn't it?
01:40Yeah, well, I said to you earlier that we obviously lost some key players and some really, really good players for the level.
01:45I felt we, the players were better than the level. Some of them, although we finished where we finished, I felt there was a process there to push on this year.
01:52But, you know, this is where we're at as a club that people are going to take our better players.
01:58So we've got five or six left, I think, and the lads that come in are going to have to replicate what we did last year.
02:05And I do feel we're further ahead now than we were last year with different players.
02:10I'd love to have a few of the boys back, but we go again and see what we can produce with a new group of players.
02:16And obviously you have those sort of decisions to make, obviously, quite quickly over the next few weeks of building into the season.

02:31Some tough decisions to make. The players maybe probably needed a bit more of a chance and opportunity, but we've got to be quite ruthless to get the numbers down,
02:38to work with what we want and what we feel can do what we want to do for the season.
02:44So it's going to be some more tough decisions to make because, like I say, everyone's done really well tonight.
02:50So the competition is good. So training should be lively on Thursday.
02:54Yeah, so presumably a proper session on Thursday and then lead up to another good test on Saturday.
02:58Yeah, another really good test against Gosport, who are a very good side.
03:03It'll be hard work. And if we can implement what we want against another good side like that, then we know we're on the right path.
