00:00It's a fantastic feeling to be here. I think at the end of a long campaign, the elation of
00:04winning the election myself and to be made a Member of Parliament, to then come here and to
00:10stand in Westminster Hall is an incredible experience. It's such a place of history,
00:16such an illustrious location, and to be here now knowing that I'm part of it is quite incredible.
00:21Today is induction for new MPs. In the case of turning up, you get given a buddy who takes you
00:27on a tour of the House of Commons, but also gets you set up so you can start working straight away,
00:31so give issues of your laptop and, crucially, your parliamentary email address for people
00:36to be able to contact you on, and some other things as well in terms of getting paid yourself,
00:40how to recruit staff, so the usual first day things.
00:43Well, I'm here. It certainly feels real. I'm looking forward, most importantly though,
00:47to my swearing-in tomorrow so I can actually hit the ground running and then get back to
00:52the constituency for my first surgery at the end of the week, because my role here is to make sure
00:56that people back home are represented, delivered for, and championed, and that's what I'm here to do.
01:02I mean, I think the thing that's delighted me is just how organised the House authorities are
01:06in terms of getting us all set up, so it's been extraordinarily smooth since the moment I arrived
01:11at Parliament just a few minutes ago, showing where the cloakroom is, I'm now going to be taken
01:16for a quick induction tour and orientation, and I'll get my IT, etc., so yeah, I think probably
01:22far smoother than most people's experiences of their first day in a new job.
