00:00Michaela Skinner is apologizing again after backlash continues for her comments about the 2024 Olympics team.
00:09The former gymnast takes to X, formerly Twitter, on July 6th with a new statement issuing another apology
00:17after she shared her critique on the work ethic of Team USA gymnasts.
00:23The statement reads,
00:46She continues,
00:47Upon reflection, I was comparing the Marta era to the current era.
00:52Referencing the former National Team Coordinator for USA Gymnastics, Marta Caroli, who retired in 2016.
01:00Multiple athletes allege that they endured abuse while being coached by Marta and her husband, Bella Caroli,
01:06allegations which they've denied.
01:09Michaela says,
01:18She apologizes again and wishes Team USA the best at the upcoming Paris Olympics.
01:24E! News has reached out to Marta Caroli for comment, but did not immediately hear back.
01:29The gymnast first sparked backlash in a since-deleted YouTube video
01:34when she shared her candid thoughts on the new era of USA Gymnasts,
01:38explaining why she thinks SafeSport, a non-profit organization founded in 2017
01:45to help end abuse in athletics, has impacted the sport.
02:16On July 3rd, Michaela took to her Instagram stories to explain what she meant
02:21and apologized for any misunderstanding.
02:46It was more about going back into my own gym.
02:48Just the work ethic is different compared to when we were doing gymnastics in the Marta era.
02:53And I'm not sticking up for Marta or saying what she did was good.
02:57I'm just saying it was different.
02:59So anyway, sorry for anything that got out of context or seemed hurtful.
03:05That is never my intentions.
03:06And seriously, throughout the video, I was so pumped for the girls
03:09and it was so fun watching trials and doing a live with everybody.
03:13I love those girls and I'm seriously so happy for them.
03:16So I would never do anything to make them feel otherwise.
03:19So sorry if that came out wrong. That was not my intentions at all.
03:23Michaela stepped in for Simone Biles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
03:28after she withdrew and earned a silver medal in the vault competition.
03:33The now-retired athlete made the comments just weeks before the 2024 Olympics kickoff in Paris.
03:39Simone Biles, who recently qualified to represent Team USA in the upcoming summer games,
03:44seemingly clapped back at Michaela's previous comments,
03:47posting this message on threads on July 4th, writing simply,
03:51Not everyone needs a mic and a platform.
