00:08She was remembered as a trailblazer for female singers with her own iconic style.

00:19René Geyer was a soul, jazz and blues powerhouse.

00:25The four-hour ceremony, a tribute to a career spanning five decades.

00:37She'd be in disbelief. I mean, I can hear her saying to me,

00:41all these people are here for me, they must really love me.

00:49Her voice and everything, effortless and meandering like a river.

00:54Geyer's life featured momentous highs and lows.

00:57She was critically acclaimed, but battled drug addiction and cancer,

01:02well known for her tough exterior.

01:05Behind that exterior was a very, very generous-hearted and vulnerable lady.

01:13For a songwriter, René was an absolute gift.

01:17The night's musical tributes featured a line-up of close friends.
