00:00You've spoken about Gareth Southgate and the criticism that he's had and the fairness or otherwise of it.
00:09Your captain is also coming in for a lot of criticism at home.
00:14Could you explain, as a long-standing team-mate of his with England,
00:18what exactly he brings to a team just as a player and also as your captain, as a person?
00:25Of course he brings leadership, firstly.
00:30I think when he's on the pitch, he makes other players feel positive.
00:35I think we all feel very positive when he's on the pitch because he's our leading goal-scorer for England.
00:43At any time, he can score a goal and make that difference.
00:49He's a very important player. He's our captain.
00:57Was that, in reverse, how you felt when you played against him,
01:02whenever you've played against him, whether at Manchester United?
01:06Is there a certain awe that comes with Harry Kane being on the pitch and yourself as a defender?
01:12It's different when he's there.
01:15No, of course. Like I said, I think he's a world-class player.
01:20He is one of those players that you give him time in and around the box, he'll score.
01:25He takes opportunities. We know that. We see it day in, day out in training.
01:31We know the qualities he has and what he brings for the team.
01:35It's really important for us that he's on the pitch.
01:39Anything you remember? Any specific game you remember at all against him?
01:44No, not any specific game.
01:47I just think, like I said, we all know his world-class ability and what he can deliver.
01:55That's important goals in important times. We know that.
02:03Just to follow on from Martin's question, I was going to ask about Harry.
02:07What's he been like this week since that game?
02:11What's he like to lead off the pitch?
02:13Has he addressed you guys since the game, the quarter-final?
02:18Can you sense any frustration in him, having had a couple of, by his standards, quiet games?
02:24No, I don't sense any frustration from him.
02:29I feel like he's the same Harry that we have from the start of the camp.
02:35Nothing's changed.
02:37Of course, maybe in his opinion, he would have liked to maybe score more goals.
02:44But no, nothing's changed. He's still very positive.
02:48Of course, he speaks a lot for the team.
02:52He calls meetings, speaks in meetings.
02:54Like I said, he's our captain, he's our leader.
02:57He leads by example and we all follow him.
03:01Hi, Luke.
03:03We saw the impact that you had the other day coming on after a really frustrating four months for you.
03:10We saw as well the impact that Trent had putting that pen away,
03:14after maybe a different sort of frustration when he'd been subbed a couple of times, for example.
03:18What does it say about the strength and resilience of you guys that players can come in
03:24who've maybe had these knockbacks and disappointments and make that impact?
03:28Because you don't get it everywhere, do you?
03:30No, of course, but I think that's what's important for us as a group, as a team.
03:36I think that's the example Gareth sets and Steve.
03:41Like I touched on earlier, the ones that are not playing,
03:45the ones that have to do them tough trainings the day after the game, after not getting on,
03:49I think they're the most important ones because they're the one that leads training,
03:54leads the positive vibes.
03:58Like I said earlier, you never know when your opportunity can come.
04:04You have to make sure that you're giving 100% every day.
04:07In the semi-final tomorrow, someone that might not have played on Wednesday might get an opportunity.
04:14You have to make sure that you're doing everything right to be ready for that when it comes.
04:20Thanks, Nick. Craig?
04:22Hi, Luke. A lot has been made about the imbalance of the side.
04:25Can you give us a professional insight into what a left-footer at left-back brings?
04:30Someone like yourself, why does that make a team better?
04:36I don't know, really. I think it might make the balance better.
04:41I think having a left-footed on that side.
04:45But I don't think it will change too much with the team.
04:50I think Tripps has done really, really well.
04:54Always has done for his country.
04:56He's a really important player for us.
04:59For me, he's been brilliant.
05:02I don't think too much can change.
05:05I think maybe a little bit of balance.
05:08For me, he's been brilliant there.
05:11An extension of that question in many ways.
05:13Has your frustration been amplified, not just by the fact that you're injured and you want to get back playing,
05:18but by a belief that you can help the team?
05:21Yeah, of course.
05:23I think for me, I have to have belief.
05:25Belief that I can help the team and of course make the team better.
05:30I think maybe also Gareth sees that and that's maybe why he did bring me.
05:36Because he knows the qualities I have and what I can bring to the team.
05:40But for me, it was just about making sure that I get everything right
05:44to make sure that I'm fit and raring to go.
05:47For me now, I'm at that stage where I am and I feel really good.
05:52So, I'm happy with the place I'm at.
05:57Hi Luke, we have got a Dutchman in our camp.
06:00Can you just talk to me about what Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank has been bringing and what he's like to work with?
06:05He's been bringing everything to Jimmy.
06:08No, he's been really good, really positive.
06:13I think he's been doing stuff in training with the strikers, taking some of the training.
06:21I'm not going to go into too much detail on what he does,
06:24but we're all really happy with Jimmy and he helps not just the strikers,
06:29but a lot of the lads and also has the advice of what he's done in the game to give to others.
06:36Can you give a bit of detail on the lighter side?
06:38Because he seems to like a laugh as well.
06:40I've seen him pushing John Stones into the sprinklers and he's constantly got a smile on his face.
06:44Yeah, no, I think that's just the way he is.
06:47He brings a lot of laughs, very confident.
06:51He likes a little bit of a joke and I think he just brings the positive energy around the camp and makes people smile.
07:02Hi Luke, you mentioned earlier about players making an impact coming on when they need it.
07:06I just want to know what you thought of Esri Gonca's performance in the quarterfinal?
07:11Unbelievable. He was so, so good, so efficient, very aggressive.
07:19I think for him he should be very proud because I think if I'm not mistaken that was his first start in a tournament.
07:27I was really impressed with how he dealt with that.
07:31He looked like he had been playing for England for a long, long time.
07:35So yeah, now he can be very proud of how he did and get ready for the next game.
07:42That's causing a happy concern essentially.
07:44I mean, alongside you and Trippier maybe, Mark Gway did really well before that and now you've got him performing when Gway was suspended.
07:52It's a nice sort of problem to have I guess.
07:54Yeah, no, I think it's a positive problem for Gareth.
07:58Now he's obviously got to pick a side and I think that's only good for him.
08:04To show where we're at.
08:06You know, competition for places is always good.
08:08I think it's a good thing for the team.
08:10Keeps everyone on their toes to push each day to be at their best.
08:15So I think, yeah, it's a positive problem for the boss.
08:19Okay, we've got Phil Foden politely waiting for a lift home here now.
08:22So we'll do Gerry Lawton and then finish with Tom Barkley at the back.
08:29Hi Luke. I'll try and be quick. Gerry Lawton, Daily Star, best of luck on Wednesday.
08:34Thank you.
08:35You've had to work so hard to get on the pitch here. You've really had to put it in.
08:39I was just wondering, a lot of players are on the beach.
08:43You're not. You're here. You've worked your socks off to get there.
08:47Why? What does it mean to you to put that England jersey on?
08:52It means everything.
08:56I think, yeah, there's been a lot of sacrifice and hard work to get in my position now.
09:03A lot of chats with Gareth and the medical staff, but I wouldn't change anything.
09:08I think playing for your country means everything to me.
09:11And I'm very honoured and privileged to be able to do that and to be in the position.
09:16So there was no way that I would, if I had a slight chance and Gareth would take me,
09:22that I'd be sitting on the beach.
09:24Because I'd much rather be here giving everything I can to try and help us win this tournament.
09:30Because I believe we can.
09:32Earlier in the tournament there was some quite brutal criticism
09:35in certain directions of early England performances,
09:37particularly in the group stage and talking about Gary Lineker comments etc.
09:41I was wondering if the squad has been able to use those comments,
09:44a bit Fergie style if you like, we'll show them.
09:47Has there been a little bit of that to help you rally the troops?
09:53I don't know really. I think, obviously we see them, but we just try to ignore it.
10:00Focus on ourselves. I think maybe there is a little bit of added motivation from what people are saying.
10:07But like I said earlier, I think the most important thing is winning games.
10:12So we just keep having to do that.
10:15I think we're improving game by game in our performances.
10:19There's of course still more to come, but I think our main priority is winning games.
10:23And I think as long as we're doing that,
10:25then it doesn't matter what people are saying about how we perform.
10:28And just finally, the fans, you've seen the scenes at home.
10:31Complete madness. Babies called Jude, beer flyer, hangovers, people calling in sick.
10:39You're in a bubble. Just tell us how much that means to the players
10:44to know that basically the whole nation is backing them.
10:49No, of course it means everything. I think this is what we do it for.
10:53We do it for the fans, for the families, for our families.
10:57And the love of football.
10:59I think like you said, we're in a bubble, but we see it all.
11:03We love seeing the videos and people at Box Park going crazy.
11:08And I think even that is extra motivation.
11:11Seeing how happy we make people.
11:15And I think extra motivation to keep on doing that and keep them smiles on their faces.
11:22Last one at the back, Tom Barkley.
11:28Hi Luke, Tom Barkley from The Sun.
11:30Talking about being in a bubble, one of the biggest talking points from the fans and the media
11:34throughout this has been left back and having a natural left-sider.
11:38Just how aware have you been personally about how much people are talking about that particular situation?
11:44And have you felt like you've had almost the weight of the nation on you to get you back to fitness?
11:51No, not really. I think obviously you read things here and there.
11:58But I haven't really felt any added pressure to get back.
12:02I think, like I said, we've always been very clear with the plan I have.
12:08I think, like I said, obviously I had a little setback, but we still had the plan in motion.
12:13So there was no added pressure.
12:15I think, of course, I wanted to be back out there on the pitch as soon as I can.
12:19But, you know, there was no rush.
12:22I think we knew what we were doing.
12:24Like I said, I think that's obviously behind me now.
12:27I'm fit and ready to go, so I feel good.
12:30And just finally, you're the only Englishman to ever score in a Euros final.
12:34But when you were talking about it yesterday on Lions' Den,
12:37you just said it sort of didn't matter because obviously what happened with the result.
12:40Is that how you feel about it looking back?
12:42Do you not have any happy memories of that at all?
12:49It's hard to have happy memories, I think.
12:54I try not to think about it.
12:56And for me, I think, yeah.
13:01Yeah, not many good memories, to be honest, from that goal.
13:04I think, of course, the result really killed that, to be honest.
13:07So, you know, it adds even more motivation this tournament to put things right.
13:14OK, thanks everyone.
13:15And sorry to those we couldn't get round to today.
13:24Thank you.
