SORRY/NOT SORRY charts how an open secret about comedian Louis C.K.’s sexual misconduct evolved into a front page article on The New York Times. Following the story’s publication, Louis C.K. admitted “these stories are true” and faced initial repercussions, only to return to the stage nine months later. While the story of C.K.’s rise and fall largely played out in public, this film reveals the stories of three women who spoke out over the years about C.K.’s behavior.

00:00Comparisons to Lenny Bruce, comparisons to Bob Dylan, comparisons to being a sort of
00:06philosopher king.
00:08Jesus.
00:10When I said I wanted to work with Louis C.K., I should have been more specific, as opposed
00:17to like how it all panned out.
00:20These stories have been around for a while, and everybody kind of casually knows, really.
00:26This jerking off comedian is obviously jerks Louis C.K.
00:30He basically said something along the lines of, what, like I like to jerk off in front
00:34of people.
00:35He's talking about what turns the mind.
00:37Most female comedians quit because it's just a series of indignities that they have to
00:41suffer their entire life.
00:43Because you've been socialized in this world where men get to treat women however they
00:47want.
00:48If he's done this stuff and he's denied it, we just thought, well, let's see how much
00:53of a story there is there.
00:54We got the sense that there were going to be other women.
00:56They were told to keep quiet.
00:58People are scared.
00:59They want to be on his side for work.
01:02He didn't use the word sorry, but he wrote a whole essay explaining that he knew he did
01:08something wrong.
01:10He got caught.
01:11The man got caught.
01:14I was like, well, the fact that I thought it wasn't my problem is the problem.
01:18Like, that's exactly the problem.
01:20Louis did what?
01:21I don't know.
01:26How do we deal with this?
01:28How do we welcome people back or not welcome people back?
01:32Usually white men get away with the stuff that they do.
01:34Like you know he's coming back, right?
01:39He started to do more touring and they started to sell out.
01:43Everybody lives with a certain amount of hypocrisy and this is the amount that I've allocated
01:48for myself.
01:49Making fun of the victims is still good for business.
01:54Women are hurting and feel like they're crazy because everyone's letting all these predators
01:58back.
02:01Not only did he get away with it, he's like rubbing it in all of our faces.
02:08Louis had a whole bit about how the greatest threat to women is men.
02:12Louis could still do that bit and say, and I was one of those guys.
