00:00Well, welcome back. Hurricane Beryl to blame for one death in southeast Texas.
00:04A tree fell on a home north of Houston. The storm made landfall around four
00:09this morning as a category one hurricane near Matagorda Beach. Fox
00:13Force Sally McDonald live in southwest Houston, where there is flash flooding
00:18and heard you on the microphone. So you even saw a lot of lightning around
00:21there as well.
00:22We did just see some lighting over there, guys. Yes. Good morning. Just a
00:30very messy day here in Houston. We have flash flood warnings ongoing until
00:36about 11 a.m. But we won't be surprised if those get extended. I'm in
00:40southwest Houston here at a very popular intersection. If you're
00:43familiar with the area, this is Hillcroft and Harwin. You can see
00:47we've got a current going in the street here right now. The wind 60 to 80
00:52mile per hour gusts right here in the city of Houston. Keep in mind just a
00:55few days ago, this was not supposed to be a Houston storm. And right now we
00:59are in the bullseye of Hurricane Beryl seeing hurricane force winds right here
01:04in southwest Houston. So the rain that keeps falling is just aggravating the
01:09situation out here. We've got trees down. There's debris in the streets. A
01:14lot of signs that have blown down are now under this water. I'm standing in
01:17a parking lot where we've been watching this water rise just here in
01:22this parking lot, which is above the street level. And so center point
01:26energy here in Houston reporting more than a million people without power.
01:30You can see right now the intersection where we are, the street light. This is
01:34what it looks like all across the city of Houston this morning. We have street
01:39lights that are out. We have power outages at businesses. The city
01:44essentially is shut down. Only essential workers are reporting today
01:49and many businesses have shut their doors today. You can see this awning
01:53here. When we first started reporting here this morning, this awning was up
01:57and we have been watching it come down. And so we've slowly been moving our
02:01vehicles back and keeping our heads on a swivel out here and watching for any
02:06sort of flying debris. You can hear the metal there banging against the garage
02:11door there. So the situation at the airport is more than a thousand
02:15flights have been canceled. Both Houston's Bush Intercontinental and
02:20Houston. This is not Hurricane Harvey. The good news is this is moving out of
02:26the way quickly. The bad news is it's gonna be days and weeks to clean up
02:30here in Houston after this hurricane passed right through the city and is
02:35continuing to our inland county. Sally. Interesting. You know, not too
02:42long ago was like half a million without power. And then within the last
02:45hour or so, it's jumped to, as you mentioned, more than a million without
02:49power. As we've learned in Texas, as you've learned in Houston before, that
02:54could take days to restore. So this is gonna be a long, long process, huh?
02:58Oh, absolutely. And some of the areas that have the most trees in our city
03:06have not even seen the worst of it yet. It still has not reached areas like the
03:11Woodlands, Kingwood, those areas that have these big, beautiful, giant trees.
03:15And so this, unfortunately, this threat is going to linger throughout the day.
03:19But then once this day is over, hopefully we've got sunny skies
03:23tomorrow and we can begin the cleanup.
