Turkey is considering removing all stray dogs in the country from the streets by passing a law that would see them culled. Animal rights activists and some residents say the plan is inhumane
Transcript
00:00Turkey is home to 4 million stray dogs, a major nuisance for people on the country's
00:05streets. The dogs have been blamed for a string of attacks, road accidents and rabies outbreaks.
00:30A new turn-release programme has seen 260,000 dogs fixed on average in recent years. But
00:49this has failed to stop an explosion in stray numbers. Now the country's government is considering
00:54culling as many as it can.
01:21The plan isn't popular, with less than 3% supporting it. Animal rights activists in
01:27particular are alarmed.
01:51Some reports say the outcry has the government considering scaling back its plans. But even
01:56if it does, the problem of stray dogs on the country's streets won't go away.
