More China-Made Equipment Found on Taiwan’s Military Bases

Chinese-made power inverters have been found on several Taiwan military bases, along with network routers and other equipment. It comes after Chinese-sourced rocket fuel powder and electronics were found in Taiwan's domestically produced missiles.

00:00A new audit by the Defense Ministry's Armaments Bureau has found that hundreds of Chinese-made
00:05power inverters are being used on several of Taiwan's military bases.
00:11It also found on-base network routers and data readers made by Chinese companies.
00:16The inverters were first discovered by opposition lawmaker Huang Guocheng during a visit to
00:21a military base.
00:22He says the use of Chinese-made parts on these bases violates the terms of government contracts
00:28and raises serious national security concerns.
00:41The Defense Ministry says it's asked suppliers and contractors to immediately remove equipment
00:47with Chinese-made parts, and is looking into potential breach of contract charges.
00:52But the accusations don't stop there.
00:54Another opposition lawmaker has raised concerns about dashboard cameras in military officials' cars.
01:12Security experts say that the military's dashcams are typically connected to isolated,
01:16private networks, but could be compromised if connected to other Wi-Fi networks.
01:21These latest cases come as other Chinese-made products are discovered in Taiwan's military equipment.
01:27Earlier this year, the military revealed that some rocket fuel powder and electrical components
01:32in Taiwan's domestically-made missiles were also sourced from China.
