Transcript
00:00Ed and Connie Sumner are a middle-aged couple with an 8-year-old boy and a large suburban home.
00:06Even after 11 years of marriage, they seem to be really in love with one other.
00:11Ed owns his own trucking company, while Connie handles philanthropic fundraising,
00:17which requires her to go to New York City on occasion. Connie bumps into a young man called
00:22Paul Martell on one of these trips, and she falls and scratches her knee. Paul invites her to his
00:29flat in order to get a band-aid. This leads to a phone call and a visit the next time she's in town,
00:35then travels into town only to see Paul, and soon they're having an affair. Ed senses the issues in
00:41the relationship almost immediately, and his suspicions are heightened when he catches Connie
00:47in a lie, and when a fired employee implies that Ed is unaware of some aspects of his family.
00:54Finally, he hires a private investigator, who quickly delivers photographs of Connie and Paul
00:59together. Ed visits Paul's place, and during the subsequent talk, he notices a gift he once gave
01:05Connie that she recently gave Paul. Ed loses his cool and kills Paul by hitting him over the head.
01:12He then wraps Paul's body in a carpet, cleans everything he has touched, and wipes the blood
01:18off the floor. Connie phones and leaves a message on Paul's answering machine, saying she wants to
01:24stop the affair while he is doing this. Ed packs the carpet containing Paul's body into the trunk
01:30of his car and disposes of it at a landfill. Connie is the one who notices the strangeness
01:36in their relationship now. Cops arrive to investigate Paul's disappearance after discovering
01:42Connie's name and address in his apartment. They return sometime after the body is discovered.
01:48She is evasive, attempting to hide her knowledge of Paul, and the officers immediately pick up on
01:54the contradictions in her story. Ed surprises her by lying to the cops to back up her statement.
02:00The two ultimately come clean with one other after she finds the private investigator's photos.
02:06Ed offers to turn himself in, but Connie stops him, saying that they can get through this together
02:12and go on with their lives. The movie ends with the two of them still in love with one other.
