Transcript
00:00Discover a world of exclusivity and opulence.
00:03Each of these islands stands as a sanctuary, offering unmatched privacy and top-tier amenities.
00:09So join me as I count down the top 15 most luxurious private islands in the world, starting
00:14with number 15, the Green Turtle Cay.
00:17Located within the Abaco Island chain in the Bahamas, Green Turtle Cay is the perfect island
00:22property.
00:23That's because it's home to a modern main house that spans an impressive 7,200 square
00:28feet.
00:29It's got a private guest house that spans about 2,800 square feet, a series of pristine
00:34beaches and beautiful marina.
00:37Best of all, if you've got some deep pockets, it can be yours as it's currently listed by
00:41Sotheby's for a cool price of about $19.2 million.
00:46Number 14.
00:47Cayo Espanto Located just off the coast of Belize in the
00:51Caribbean, this island was bought in 1997 by American estate agent Jeff Graham.
00:57Just one year later, he opened up a top-tier adult-only resort, including features such
01:02as a helipad, a spa, a gym, and a paddy diving base.
01:07It is truly luxurious, and it's even hosted the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De
01:12Niro, and Bradley Cooper.
01:14It's thanks to this that the Cayo Espanto has been listed among the 20 best adults-only
01:18all-inclusive resorts in the world by Reader's Digest magazine.
01:23Number 13.
01:25Hayman Island If you want to experience the luxury of a private
01:29island on a budget, then I'd suggest jetting over to Hayman Island.
01:32It's located in the northeast coast of Australia in the Whitsundays.
01:36It's a privately-owned island with a resort known for its great cuisine, amazing spas,
01:42and proximity to the Great Barrier Reef.
01:44With just 182 suites and villas, a stay here is relatively quiet, and with over 500 staff
01:50on hand, you'll be well-weighted on for every desire.
01:54Best of all, at a price of just $500 a night, a stay here is relatively reasonable.
02:00Number 12.
02:01Manemba Island While Tanzania may not be the most well-known
02:05vacation spot out there, its luxurious Manemba Island is certainly worth a visit.
02:10That's because this tiny private island is home to the Beyond Resort.
02:14Housing just 12 villas, it features beautiful beaches, a variety of water sports, beachfront
02:19yoga, and rides in the incredible Gao Boats, which are native to the area.
02:23However, at a starting price of about $2,100 per night, it ain't cheap.
02:28Worse still, even if you've got the cash, you'll have to hold off on going for the time
02:32being as it's closed until October 1st for renovations.
02:37Number 11.
02:38Kalala Island Located off the coast of Nicaragua, Tim and
02:42Sarah Wickham purchased Kalala Island from the Nicaraguan government in 1997.
02:47From there, they quickly got to work developing it into an all-inclusive private resort.
02:52It's home to six guest suites at the beachfront, and it can only accommodate up to 12 people
02:56at a time, and is meant to straddle the line between super luxurious and eco-friendly.
03:02In order to cater to its rich clientele, it's got 25 staff, a bar, two restaurants, and
03:06a helipad, and in recent years, British monarchs have been known to vacation here.
03:11And at a price of about $3,700 a night, it's far out of the price range of the average
03:16Joe.
03:18Number 10.
03:19Crown Pigeon Island and Quays If you're looking for an exclusive and luxurious
03:24private island in the Bahamas, then I'd suggest checking out Crown Pigeon Islands and Quays.
03:28It's located in the waters of North Ulithera.
03:31This 4.5 hectare slice of the tropics is truly paradise.
03:36As of now, though, it's home to three oceanfront villas.
03:38The first has two bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, and a pool, outdoor bar, and entertaining
03:43deck, alongside two guest cottages, a home office, and laundry facilities.
03:48The second villa is the largest and has five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a pool, a massive
03:52oceanfront deck, and a swim-up bar.
03:54The third and final villa is somewhere in between, as it offers only four bedrooms,
03:59two guest cottages, and has the most secluded accommodations.
04:02Best of all, each resident has ample shady verandas and pool decks, making it perfect
04:07for dining and entertaining under the stars.
04:10Now, if you're the developer type, you can also add to the island, as there are several
04:14oceanfront home sites available.
04:17These are complemented by a charming beach club that comes complete with a bar and barbecue
04:21facility.
04:22And while the island may be a bit out there, it doesn't sacrifice on conveniences, as it's
04:27equipped with underwater power cables supplying electricity from the mainland, high-speed
04:31internet, a state-of-the-art watermaker system, an organic composter, and backup generators.
04:37The home is even perfect for those who love the water, as it's got over 1.5 acres of protected
04:41harbor with enough room for multiple boats.
04:44In case you want to have some additional hands around, the island even has the staff and
04:48guest housing near the marina, making the island fully functional.
04:52Now, it's because of all this that this has been advertised as well-being suited for use
04:56as a private family estate, exclusive residential development, or a boutique luxury resort.
05:02However, it's also because of this functionality that it's listed at $39 million, making it
05:07truly an expensive purchase.
05:109.
05:11Out There Island Of all the areas where you could own a private
05:16island, the Canadian province of British Columbia may just be the most underrated spot.
05:21Known for its massive pine trees, untouched coastlines, and temperate rainforest climate,
05:26it would be lovely to own an island here.
05:29And while Out There Island isn't for sale, it is available for rent on Airbnb for about
05:34$470 a night.
05:36What sets this bohemian abode apart is its three unique housing spaces, a forest treehouse,
05:42a luxury yurt room, and an oceanfront tent cabin.
05:46Unless you buy out all three, you'll be sharing the island with the other guests, and while
05:50this is less than ideal, the island is beautiful enough for most to look past it.
05:54No matter which housing option you choose, though, each bedroom sleeps two people and
05:58comes with incredible ocean views.
06:00Its own bathroom and amenities like biodegradable soap, shampoo, and toothpaste.
06:05The room rate also includes a boat service to and from the island and food for breakfast,
06:09lunch, and dinner.
06:10And if you're willing to pay just a little bit extra, that food can even be prepared
06:13by professional local chefs.
06:16These chefs are pretty cool, they can cater to your personal needs, and whether that be
06:19a day picnic or a unique floating long table dinner set up on the dock.
06:23In terms of activities, there are facilities and equipment available for kayaking, paddleboarding,
06:28swimming, hiking, spotting orca whales, warming up in the wood-fired hot tub, or relaxing
06:33on the shoreline.
06:34Now, that's not to say that the place is absolutely decked out.
06:37After all, the Wi-Fi is only basic, and due to the nature of the solar power, energy has
06:42to be conserved as much as possible at night.
06:44However, if you're looking for a great outdoor retreat that allows you to disconnect from
06:48technology, few places are as cool as this beautiful island.
06:538.
06:54Pim Island If you want to buy a luxurious private island
06:58that's outside the tropics, then Pim Island may just be the place you're looking for.
07:03It's located among British Columbia's Gulf Islands, Pim manages to be all-natural without
07:08being remote.
07:09On one hand, it's just a 10-minute boat ride from Vancouver Island's Canoe Cove, making
07:13it easy to pick up supplies.
07:15On the other hand, it's got the solitude of a private island.
07:19Overlooking Mount Baker and the Olympic Mountain Range, the island is in a beautiful spot and
07:23it's almost completely covered in trees.
07:26In terms of climate, it tends to be quite mild year-round, making for a great getaway
07:30at all times.
07:32And if you'd like to be on the water, it comes fully equipped with a boathouse, dock, and
07:35deep-water moorage, allowing you to have whatever vessels you desire on hand.
07:39Yet, it's this island's beautiful main house that steals the show.
07:43Built in 1980 using natural materials such as cedar for roofing and framing, oak and
07:48marble for the flooring, stone for fireplaces, and wood-inlaid marble for finishings, the
07:54house is truly top-tier.
07:56It comes complete with a total of four beds and four baths, got cool features such as
07:59a massive indoor pool house with hot tub, formal and informal dining rooms, a vaulted
08:04ceiling, great room with a wet bar, a library, an outdoor patio with a wood-fired oven, a
08:10games room, and even a self-contained suite for any staff you'd like to have on hand.
08:14When you step outside, you can not only find tons of golf cart paths to zip through the
08:19island, but additional features such as a fully-lit outdoor tennis court and an additional
08:23five individual cottages.
08:25Best of all, you can stay connected despite being out on an island, as there's complete
08:29internet, full electric connection, and both water and backup water connection.
08:33With all this in mind, Pim Island is the perfect getaway spot, however, with an asking price
08:38of $5.1 million, it certainly ain't cheap.
08:42Moving on to number 7, Dubai's Islands Dubai is a place that's known for its glitz
08:47and glamour, so it should come as little surprise that it's home to two collections of top-tier
08:52private islands.
08:53The first to be built was the Palm Jumeirah, it was crafted out of nearly 100 million cubic
08:58meters of sand, and it extended Dubai's coastline by a whopping 500 kilometers, and it's home
09:03to about 25,000 people.
09:06These residents all live in a private complex of villas that are connected to each other
09:09and the mainland by metro, with a 5.5-kilometer-long monorail.
09:14In total, this massive island complex cost a whopping $12 billion.
09:18Now, the world is an even grander, albeit similar, project.
09:23Constructed slowly over the past two decades, it's essentially a series of islands that
09:27look like a map of the world.
09:30Consisting of about 300 islands, issues such as the 2008 financial crisis massively hurt
09:34the project, and as of late 2013, only two of the islands have been developed.
09:39Yet, despite the slow start, activity has picked up in recent years and it's now home
09:43to several homes and luxury amenities.
09:46However, while these islands may seem pretty cool, they've come with a whole host of problems.
09:51First and foremost, they have a horrible impact on the area's ecology.
09:55In order to create these islands, the developer dredged up local sand and then had little
10:00regard for local marine wildlife.
10:03The reports are damning, after all, at least in the case of the Palm Jumeirah, almost all
10:07of the local marine wildlife died thanks to the creation of these islands.
10:12To make matters worse, to date, the water in the area has now increased water-soluble
10:16materials and is far warmer than it used to be.
10:20And there's a belief that the Palm Jumeirah islands may be sinking into the sea at a rate
10:23of 5 millimeters a year.
10:25If that wasn't bad enough, a lot of residents on the Palm Jumeirah are owned by sketchy
10:30individuals, including Irish crime boss Daniel Kanaan, Pakistani money launderer Obaid Kanani,
10:36and Azerbaijani dictator Ilham Aliyev.
10:38So, while these private islands may be cool-looking, they've caused a whole host of problems and
10:44may just be a net negative to the city of Dubai.
10:46However, if you guys have any thoughts on this, let me know in the comments below.
10:516.
10:52The Pumpkin Key If you're looking to get to the most expensive
10:56island that money can buy, then you may be interested in putting a bid for Pumpkin Key.
11:01Listed by Sotheby's, this private island is located in the Florida Keys.
11:05With 10 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, it's got enough space to fit just about anybody you'd
11:09want over, and with the property being just a three-minute boat ride to shore, accommodations
11:14at the Ocean Reef Club is far less remote than most of the other islands on this list.
11:19As of now, the island features one main home with three bedrooms, two caretaker cottages,
11:23and a dockmaster's apartment.
11:25If you want to dock some boats, maybe you can make use of its 20-boat marina, which
11:30can accommodate everything from a mega-yacht to a three-bedroom shore home.
11:34In the center of the island are tennis courts that are also serving as a helipad, a golf
11:39cart circle paths the island so you can get from point A to point B with ease, and if
11:43you're the developer type, there are even 12 44,000-square-foot lots that can be built
11:48on.
11:49It's also worth mentioning that the nearby Ocean Reef Club is a luxurious amenity in
11:52its own right.
11:54Located in a secluded spot on the northernmost tip of Key Largo in the Florida Keys, the
11:59Ocean Reef Club consists of 1,900 waterfront estates, private homes, condominiums, and
12:04boat slips.
12:05The club is also equipped with a fully-staffed medical center, gourmet grocery store, veterinary
12:11care, and even an independent K-8 grade school.
12:14In case you need to fly in from far away, the club is conveniently located less than
12:18an hour from Miami International Airport and just one-and-a-half hours from Fort Lauderdale
12:23or Hollywood International Airport.
12:25And if you're mega-rich, you can just opt to fly in as the Ocean Reef Club is serviced
12:29by its own private runway.
12:31Now, if all this sounds like it's down your alley, well, you gotta pay up.
12:34After all, with a $75 million asking price, the island ain't cheap.
12:39However, if you can afford it, I'm sure that it would be a very enjoyable investment.
12:435.
12:45LITTLE HALLS POND KEY Johnny Depp is massively famous for his role
12:50as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, and in 2004, he became an actual resident
12:55of the Caribbean after purchasing Little Halls Pond Key.
12:59It's located in the Exuma Island chain in the Bahamas, and he purchased it for a sizable
13:03price of $3.5 million and soon got to work making it the perfect vacation spot.
13:09After creating a massive mansion and buying an $8 million yacht to get to and from the
13:13island, he began to host his family and friends there.
13:16In a rather touching gesture, he even named the island six beaches after someone he loved.
13:21Five of the names have been reported to the media.
13:23These include one beach after his daughter, Lily Rose, another for his son Jack, and third
13:28for his then-wife, Vanessa Paradise, a fourth after the late author Hunter S. Thompson,
13:33and a fifth after his friend and mentor, Marlon Brando, whom he reportedly consulted with
13:37when he first wanted to purchase the island.
13:40Unsurprisingly, it's thanks to all of this peace, beauty, and tranquility that the island
13:45has become his recovery spot, and he would be known to spend a lot of time here in order
13:49to relax and recharge.
13:51However, in a somewhat surprising twist, he reportedly ended up selling the island to
13:55J.K. Rowling in early 2023 for a whopping $75 million, making a massive profit in the
14:01process.
14:02While it may seem like it was the money that made Johnny give up his beloved island, it
14:05likely had more to do with its troubling past.
14:09You see, in 2015, Johnny married his now ex-wife, Amber Heard, in a ceremony on the island.
14:14As many of you likely know, Yunder won a very famous trial against Amber in mid-2022 and
14:20ended up being awarded $15 million after suing her for defamation.
14:25It was allegedly this trial that made him want to sell the home, as he had tied the
14:28memory of Amber to the island.
14:30Yet, it appears that this story may have been false, because in late 2023, he told a reporter
14:35in an interview, quote, "...where I feel the most myself in this world and where I
14:39go to feel absolutely normal, I suppose, is my place in the Bahamas, because it's an island
14:44and nobody's looking at me."
14:45End quote.
14:46Well, such a quote suggests he still owns the island, yet the reality is, as of the
14:51time of this writing, nobody except those close to him knows for sure.
14:554.
14:56Flakfortet Denmark is not a country that's known for
15:00its military.
15:01However, its Flakfortet has a long martial tradition that's now been translated into
15:06a luxury experience.
15:08Built between 1910 and 1914, it was the last of three artificial islands that the Danes
15:13created to defend the entrance to Copenhagen's harbor.
15:16It was built mostly out of reinforced concrete, when in active service, the fortifications
15:20extended over two floors and included a barracks that once housed a garrison of 550 men.
15:26While it didn't serve much of a purpose during World War I or World War II, it finally got
15:30a facelift in 1950.
15:32Thanks to the incoming funds from the Marshall Plan, the island was fitted with anti-aircraft
15:36guns, which were meant to be used in the case of a possible Soviet attack.
15:40In 1965, at the height of the Cold War, the Danes decided to build a Hawk anti-aircraft
15:45missile battery, bringing the fort up to its maximum strength in terms of firepower.
15:50However, in 1968, it was decommissioned from military use, and in 1975, things took an
15:55abrupt turn, when the Danish Ministry of Defense decided to lease the Flakfortet to the Copenhagen
16:00Sailing Association.
16:02As a result, the once-closed-off site was now open to the public.
16:05Then, in 1999, it was put up for sale by the Ministry of Defense, and in June 2001, it
16:10was purchased by the Swedish company Malmökrennen.
16:13On one hand, much of the island is still intact as a museum, and it's home to about a kilometer
16:18of underground tunnels that connect the entirety of the fortress.
16:21On the other hand, the island also has luxurious amenities, such as a restaurant, conference
16:26center, hotel room, and a protected yacht harbor.
16:28That makes it a pretty interesting site, as it's got a lot of potential for use in
16:32various ways.
16:34Sources online now seem to suggest that it was put on sale in 2015 for a sizable sum
16:38of $8.3 million.
16:40In the sale listing, a lot of the profit potential was advertised, and the numbers were certainly
16:45exciting.
16:46In total, they believe that this could mean a total annual revenue including fees from
16:50ferry riders, sitting at around $2.2 million.
16:53Yet to date, it's unclear whether or not any sort of sale actually went through, meaning
16:58that there may still be a chance for you to buy the island if you so choose.
17:033.
17:04Robbins Island While the English countryside isn't something
17:08that's often associated with the American state of New York, Robbins Island is a small
17:12piece of British cultural heritage.
17:15The island has been inhabited by colonists since 1636, as it was in that year that William
17:20Alexander, Earl of Stirling, was given a deed to it by King Charles I.
17:25In this deed, the Earl was given all the Long Island and adjacent islands, with Robbins
17:29Island being included.
17:30Over time, it was bought and sold multiple times, and in the latter half of the 20th
17:35century, it seemed like there was going to be a lot of development.
17:37You see, in 1979, two German investors bought the island for $1.3 million, with the intention
17:43of selling it to private developers.
17:44However, that never came to pass, and in April of 1989, Suffolk County agreed to purchase
17:49Robbins Island for $9.2 million and turn it into a nature preserve.
17:54However, in a rather confusing twist, the island never transitioned to the public ownership.
17:59Because of legal disputes, another developer had signed a contract to purchase it for $15.3
18:04million.
18:05However, that development deal ultimately collapsed, and to make things even more complicated
18:10around this time, the Wickham family attempted to sue for a 75% stake in the island.
18:15This is because back in 1779, a certain Parker Wickham was stripped of his title to Robbins
18:20Island by the state of New York due to his refusal to support the American Revolution.
18:26This in turn resulted in a court battle, which the Wickhams ultimately ended up losing.
18:30In any case, after all this confusion was out of the way, the island went up for sale
18:33once more.
18:34It was at this point that Wall Street financier Louis Bacon won the island in a 1993 bankruptcy
18:40court auction for a cool $11 million.
18:43Due to its great location close to New York, it made for a great place to go out into nature,
18:48and so it was made luxurious in a rather unorthodox way.
18:52On one hand, he's imported full-grown oak trees, engaged in extensive ecosystem management,
18:57and conducted a series of English-style pheasant hunts to simulate country living.
19:02But on the other hand, he's constructed three main houses on the property with additional
19:05visitors' cottages, caretakers' quarters, and several barns.
19:10Given the fact that the area is in the famed Hamptons, this makes his island one of the
19:14most desirable, and is there little doubt that it's gone up exponentially in value since
19:18his developments.
19:19It's also worth noting that there is certainly a spirit of environmentalism on the island.
19:25That's because in 1997, Mr. Bacon entered into a conservation easement with the Nature
19:30Conservancy, a global conservation non-profit that works to preserve several at-risk species
19:35that live on the island.
19:36Mr. Bacon said that, quote, I wanted to continue the legacy of protection that previous generations
19:41had made so important for this unique and special island to remain in this natural state,
19:46end quote.
19:47On my end, I'd say he's done a pretty good job at doing just that thus far.
19:522.
19:53Necker Island While many billionaires get a pretty bad rap,
19:58one of the few who gets almost exclusively good press is the one and only Sir Richard
20:02Branson.
20:03The founder of Virgin Group, he began his business in the record industry, but eventually
20:07expanded his holdings into everything from mobile phones to jewelry to spaceflight.
20:12He is a true jack of all trades.
20:15It's this adventurous tendency that was behind his purchase of Necker Island.
20:19Bought directly from the British Overseas Territory of the Virgin Islands in 1978, the
20:24then 28-year-old entrepreneur paid a measly $120,000 for the island.
20:30Since then, he's spent roughly $10 million on upgrades, and has since developed it into
20:34a property valued at anywhere between $100 and $150 million.
20:39In its current state, the property is nothing short of a dream tropical paradise.
20:44After Branson located the local stone, Brazilian hardwoods, Asian antiques, Indian rugs, and
20:50bamboo furniture from Bali, architects and designers got to work building a luxury crash
20:55pad on the 30-acre island.
20:57The end result is a resort with a massive great house, six individual Bali houses, and
21:02enough capacity to support 48 adults and six children.
21:06The guests are taken care of hand over foot by the island's 100-person hospitality team.
21:12While Branson will book off slots for personal use when not using the island, he rents out
21:16its room for prices that start at about $6,000 a night, and for only about $140,000 per night,
21:22you can rent out the entire island.
21:24While this may sound a bit expensive, the mix of incredible nature, beautiful beaches,
21:28and its billionaire association draws people in.
21:31If you're into the prestige, the high purchase price also puts you in an elite club.
21:37After all the likes of J-Lo and Lionel Messier, some of the few have decided to rent out the
21:41entire island.
21:42However, it is worth noting that not everything has been sunshine and rainbows on the island.
21:46That's because on August 22nd of 2011, the great house burned down in a blaze believed
21:51to have been caused by lightning from Tropical Storm Irene.
21:54At the time, the house had 20 people inside, and while all 20 managed to escape, the entire
21:59structure burned to the ground.
22:01And in 2017, tragedy struck again.
22:03That's because it was in this year that Hurricane Irma, which was a Category 5, struck the island,
22:08destroying most of the infrastructure in a blink of an eye.
22:11Thankfully, Richard Branson's incredible wealth meant he was able to repair all the
22:15damaged structures and get things back up and running rather quickly.
22:18It's also worth mentioning that for a short while, it looked like Necker Island was going
22:21to be used as a loan collateral.
22:23That's because in the wake of COVID-19, Branson's airline business tanked, and in order to keep
22:28it afloat, he offered to put up his home as collateral in exchange for a $600 million
22:32loan.
22:33However, it's unclear whether or not this ever came to pass, but as some later reports
22:37claim that Branson simply opted to inject $350 million more into his Virgin businesses
22:43after selling some of his shares in Virgin Galactic.
22:46And while this move certainly tainted Branson's image in the eyes of Virgin Galactic shareholders,
22:51it's also allowed him to keep a firm hand on Necker Island.
22:551.
22:56Petit Saint Vincent For those of you who are geography buffs
23:00have almost certainly heard of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
23:04It's located in the Southeast Pacific.
23:06It's the bane of all trivia players, as its small size and location makes it a tricky
23:10spot to point out on a map.
23:12However, if you zoom in even further, you can find private islands that are far less
23:16famous yet far more exclusive than its larger cousin.
23:20Known as Petit Saint Vincent, or PSV for short, its history is an interesting one.
23:25PSV was uninhabited until 1963, that's because it was in this year that two ex-U.S. Air Force
23:31flying buddies hatched up a business idea.
23:34After buying a 23-meter wooden schooner, they decided to start, of all things, a yacht chartering
23:40company.
23:41After spending a few months getting to know their boat, Richardson and Terman's first-paying
23:44customer turned out to be an Ohio businessman named H.W. Nichols.
23:48Mr. Nichols, however, was not just there for pleasure, instead, he was there to locate
23:53and buy a private tropical island on which he could build a small hotel.
23:57With this mission in mind, the three men set sail to explore the Grenadines, which at the
24:01time were home to at least two dozen undeveloped islands of varying sizes.
24:06At some point in the voyage, the team docked at the north shore of a serrated emerald island
24:10called Petit Martinique.
24:12This island was not for the taking, after all, it was first settled in 1700 and continued
24:17to have inhabitants.
24:18However, on the other side of the channel sat another island shaped like a 1970s fretless
24:23heavy metal guitar.
24:25It was perfect, completely untouched and underdeveloped.
24:28It offered protection from the Atlantic Ocean winds and waves coming out of the east and
24:32was in beautiful condition.
24:34The island was PSV, and soon after spotting it, the two marines located the owner, who
24:39happened to be an older woman who lived on Petit Martinique.
24:42Nichols then hired a Swedish architect to build the hotel.
24:45In keeping with the men's promise to the former owner, he agreed to build the hotel's 22 cottages,
24:50main reception, and pavilion in the traditional West Indian style, which would include exposed
24:55stone walls and woodwork sourced on site, pitched roofs, terracotta and limestone tile,
25:00and floor-to-ceiling archways.
25:02This layout was revolutionary.
25:04Using a doctrine known as disconnected connectedness, the cottages were scattered in different locations
25:09based on sunshine and topography.
25:12Some were on the hillside, some were on cliffs, and others right by the ocean.
25:16The architect's ultimate goal was to isolate each cottage from the others while also intertwining
25:21them with the island's beaches, bars, restaurants, and amenities in order to foster a walkable
25:26environment.
25:27To further create the community feel, the cottages had no televisions or telephones,
25:31which is a feature that still holds true today.
25:33Now, while classic elements such as the cottages, tiling, and systems of running the place remain,
25:39new furniture and appliances have been added.
25:41In recent years, a few cool amenities have also been added, too, with these including
25:45one of only two Jean-Michel Cousteau dive centers worldwide and five-star dining at
25:49one speck and call.
25:51And while two new waves of ownership have led to slight changes in operations, the nice
25:56thing about the island is that the original, purest vision of a relatively untouched island
26:01is an ideal that has not been forgotten.
26:03Now, if you're interested in going, you'll have to jump through a couple of hoops.
26:07First and foremost, getting there is a challenge, since it doesn't have the space or topography
26:11for a runway, it must be reached via water.
26:14However, those without a boat have nothing to fear, as most guests fly in to Barbados,
26:19connect to Union Island, and then have one of PSV's private captains pick them up in
26:23a yacht.
26:24Staying here is also pretty expensive, after all, at about $1,600 a night, it isn't a cheap
26:29place to stay.
26:30Yet, if money really isn't an object for you, and you want to live like an old money millionaire,
26:35then PSV is the place for you.
26:38Thanks for watching, everyone.
26:39I'll see you guys next time.
26:41Thank you to our channel members.
