Moulin Rouge lights up new sails and celebrates with can-can show

Cancan dancers of the Moulin Rouge dazzle spectators in Paris on July 5, 2024 (local time) as the newly installed sails were lit up above the famous windmill. The sails of the red windmill atop the Moulin Rouge, the most celebrated cabaret club in Paris, fell to the ground overnight in late April. The newly-built sails were installed last June 24, in time for the passage of the Olympic torch in front of the landmark on July 15. The Moulin Rouge, founded in 1889, became a global symbol of end-of-the-century Parisian culture, its famed can-can dancers widely depicted in paintings by avant-garde artists of the era such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Georges Seurat. Nowadays the audience is largely made up of tourist groups.

00:30Today I feel so honored and I'm so proud to be a part of such a historic moment today
00:50as we light up our beautiful windmill to let the magic continue tonight and to dance in
00:57front of all of these people is just truly something indescribable and unforgettable
01:02I'll always remember it and I'm so lucky to dance beside so many amazing performances
01:07as well tonight but I'm just so happy like I can't stop smiling I'm just bursting
01:25We were all very sad and it was something that like we couldn't even believe that happened
01:45we're so thankful that no one was hurt but it was also so lovely to receive so many messages
01:51from the public and everyone around the world like sent us messages to say that we're feeling
01:55so sorry for you guys and we hope your wings will be back up soon and so that was really
02:00touching and like tonight I'm just so happy to see it lit up again and to be dancing in
02:05front of it like we don't get to do this every night so tonight's definitely one for the
02:09history books
02:33It's a special day, a special night, it's a lot of excitement, a lot of emotions because
02:36obviously we remember what happened two months ago but we're happy to see that we managed
02:41to get our wings back up so quickly.
02:43There's a lot of people here tonight to support us, a lot of people have supported us since
02:47the fall of the wings so a lot of emotions to see this fervor here on the Place Blanche
02:52in front of the windmill tonight.
03:02It is true that the political context at the moment is a bit special in France but we think
03:21that people always appreciate a moment of parenthesis and celebration so it was normal
03:27for the windmill to be here at a time like this.
03:29It was so beautiful like the dresses and everything like the light and the place, it's stunning
03:58really.
03:59We can't afford a show like that, we don't have the money to do that so it's really nice.
04:28you
