00:00Three years ago, I became Noah's mommy and thought making the decision to breastfeed
00:05was as simple as making the decision to breastfeed.
00:09As a first-time mom, I was clueless about the challenges many women face with this seemingly
00:14simple and natural decision, but I soon learned that the struggle was very real as I navigated
00:20blow after blow.
00:22I was stressed and I struggled with feeling inadequate because for some reason, I just
00:28wasn't getting it right.
00:29Thankfully, I was able to turn to Uzazi Village, a Kansas City-based nonprofit that provides
00:35resources for mothers and babies, and y'all, they're lactation consultants.
00:39They literally taught me how to breastfeed.
00:41But not only that, they gave me the confidence to keep fighting to feed and the assurance
00:46that there was nothing wrong with me or my baby.
00:50Going through this experience, writing became an outlet and was somewhat therapeutic for
00:55To know that so many others go through similar experiences and might be feeling as isolated
01:01as I had inspired me to develop my writing into a story.
01:05What started as a personal outlet turned into a script, and that screenplay was awarded
01:10a quarterfinalist selection in the Chicago Screenplay Awards and Best Short Script at
01:15the Honorist Film Awards in New York.
01:17I want to bring this story to life and create a piece of media that focuses on breastfeeding,
01:23all the while being a one-of-a-kind sci-fi thriller.
01:26But to make it to the big screen, I need your help.
01:29I'm Jamie Addison, actor and filmmaker from Kansas City, Missouri, and I'm making a short film.
01:35The film is titled BF.
01:37It follows an overwhelmed first-time mother named Kelly that has paid a peculiar visit
01:41from an old friend, Nia.
01:43This encounter takes a turn when Nia takes a suspiciously strong interest in one aspect
01:48of Kelly's postpartum experience, her breast milk.
01:51This project involves a lot of complex elements and moving parts to happen.
01:56Our budget helps us pay for expenditures like cast and crew pay, equipment and gear, location
02:01fees, production and art design, post-production, film festival submissions, and so much more.
02:08The total budget for BF is about $15,000.
02:12Within the past year, I've already managed to raise $8,000 of this budget.
02:16I just need your help with the remaining seven.
02:19But I wouldn't ask for your help without getting you something in return, so we've
02:23got a whole list of rewards you can check out on our campaign page like special thanks
02:27in the credits, a copy of the award-winning screenplay, digital behind-the-scenes content,
02:32and even more.
02:33We put some of the best local crew together to bring this project to life.
02:37We all know the power of film and media, so we want to use that to contribute to normalizing
02:42breastfeeding in society.
02:45Mothers should not feel the need to seek refuge in support groups because physicians, family
02:49friends, colleagues, and strangers don't get it.
02:53The very simple and natural act of feeding a child.
02:58Even if you can't donate, sharing or reposting this campaign page goes a long way.
03:04Once again, my name is Jamie Addison.
03:06Thank you so much for watching.
03:07God bless.
