Keir Starmer led the Labour Party to a historic landslide in the 2024 UK general elections, ending 14 years of Conservative rule. This is one of the biggest defeats for Tories in recent years. And make no mistake, the BREXIT policy has played a huge role in this disastrous loss. Will Keir Starmer restore relations with EU or even join EU? Nabanita Sircar answers.

00:00Amrita, going back in the past, given that Brexit had played a role in the conservative defeat,
00:06how might Keir Starmer's approach to the EU relations differ from that of Boris Johnson
00:13or Rishi Sunak for that matter? Significantly, I think President Macron from France was
00:22himself in a bad position, but he was one of the first foreign leaders to congratulate Keir
00:27Starmer because everybody in Europe is looking for a good relationship and the way Boris Johnson
00:35ill-treated European countries and the way he spoke and behaved, it was just not done. Although
00:41Keir Starmer has said that we're not going to reverse the Brexit decision, but don't forget,
00:48yeah, he has said it in the past few days, he's a Remainer, but he said it, but don't forget this
00:54parliament is a bit different because Tories as opposition are in a very poor figure because
01:02they're just about 120 seats and what is important is although the extreme right reform party has
01:09four seats, but don't forget the Lib Dems have gained a lot, they are 71 seats and the Green Party
01:18has, I think, five or four seats. There are independents, there are five of them, they're all pro-Gaza
01:27so the equations will be different. Mr Keir Starmer might be forced to take a much more
01:37lenient stand than what he was saying, but I believe what he was saying was to win the elections because
01:42the Red Wall, as it used to be called, had moved to the Conservatives because they wanted Brexit
01:48and so I think he wanted to win back those votes. So we'll see once the parliament starts and what
01:53he does. Right, absolutely. I mean, he's the man of the moment, he's the rising sun, I would say.
