00:00Welcomed by applause, Labor Party leader Keir Starmer claims victory in the United Kingdom's
00:06general election.
00:08He will become Britain's next Prime Minister after Labor won a majority and by a landslide,
00:14with more than 400 seats out of the country's 650 constituencies.
00:20Speaking in London, Starmer thanked voters and said it's time for change.
00:25Change begins now.
00:35And it feels good, I have to be honest.
00:38Four and a half years of work changing the party.
00:43This is what it is for.
00:45A changed Labor Party, ready to serve our country, ready to restore Britain to the service
00:53of working people.
00:55Starmer's Labor Party has promised to strengthen Britain's public health system and grow the
01:00country's stuttering economy.
01:02The historic defeat will see Rishi Sunak of the Conservative or Tory party replaced as
01:07Prime Minister.
01:08This comes after a tumultuous 14 years of the Conservatives in power, through the COVID-19
01:14pandemic, multiple political scandals and the Tory-backed campaign that saw the country
01:18voting to leave the European Union.
01:21Now seen as a major factor in the UK's economic woes.
01:25It's predicted to be the Tories' worst ever election performance, expected to win well
01:30under 150 seats, a huge drop from the 345 they helped going into the election.
01:38Rishi Sunak held onto his seat in Yorkshire, but has conceded defeat in the election.
01:43The Labor Party has won this general election and I have called Zakir Starmer to congratulate
01:48him on his victory.
01:50The British people have delivered a sobering verdict tonight.
01:54There is much to learn and reflect on.
01:56As well as the switch of government, there have also been significant changes among the
02:01UK's smaller parties.
02:03The Liberal Democrats have become the country's third largest party with at least 70 seats.
02:08And the far-right Reform UK has picked up a handful of seats led by Brexit supporter
02:13Nigel Farage.
02:15The party failed to secure any in the 2019 general election.
02:20As the winds of change blow in the UK, attitudes among voters are optimistic but cautious.
02:26I think it's time for a new future and that's going to be good for this country.
02:31The proof is in the pudding.
02:32Bills have got to be passed, policies have got to change, there's got to be a different
02:36sense of attitude in terms of how the government is going to approach things.
02:40Rishi Sunak will now be visiting Buckingham Palace to formally tender his resignation,
02:45before Kerr Starmer accepts the King's invitation to form a government and is officially welcomed
02:50into 10 Downing Street to begin work.
02:53And with enough seats to form a majority government, the results give the Labor Party, with Starmer
02:57at the helm, the power to begin to push through the changes they have pledged to the UK public.
