Transcript
00:00A North London mum, former solicitor and wife to the new Prime Minister.
00:04Who is Victoria Starmer?
00:05Raised in London's Gospel Oak and known then as Vicky Alexander,
00:09the Labour leader's wife had a political career of her own.
00:11After working as Cardiff University's Education and Welfare Officer in 1993,
00:16she became President of the Students' Union after a landslide victory.
00:19In the early noughties, she qualified as a solicitor,
00:22which is where she met her now-husband Keir Starmer,
00:24who was working as a barrister at the time.
00:26However, they did not hit it off right away.
00:29Sir Keir recounted their first interaction,
00:31where he was obsessively fact-checking Victoria's work,
00:34leading her to mutter,
00:35"'Who the f*** does he think he is?' under her breath."
00:37Shockingly, four months later, they were engaged.
00:4017 years married and the couple are still going strong.
00:43Lady Vicks has since stepped down from working as a solicitor.
00:46She now serves as a governor at her children's school
00:48and works in occupational health for the NHS.
00:51Before becoming the new tenant in Number 10,
00:53the couple lived in Kentish Town.
00:55Apparently, Victoria was reluctant to leave the neighbourhood.
00:57She's a popular figure in the local parenting network
01:00and has been described as down-to-earth and delightful.
01:03She rarely makes public appearances alongside Keir
01:06and apparently isn't particularly bothered
01:07about the more glamorous side of the job.
01:09So, probably no bougie interior designers
01:12or £100-a-metre wallpaper disasters
01:14to be expected at the Starmers' Downing Street.
