00:48staff who have participated in this not general election process, but a very big constituency.
00:54I don't like singling anybody out, but in particular Alison and Jen have done a fantastic
00:58job, and actually their holidays have been cancelled, and that is sure to be a determination
01:02for our democratic process. So I'm just going to declare the result of the Member of Parliament
01:20for the Burnley constituency. On Thursday, the 4th of, sorry it's Friday now, but the
01:26election took place on Thursday, the 4th of July, 2024. I, Luqman Patel, being the
01:34acting returning officer at the above election, do hereby give notice that the number of votes
01:40recorded for each candidate at the said election is as follows. Gordon Bergvissel, Liberal
01:48Democrat, 9,178. Mitchell James Pryor, Independent, 169. Rayan Piyas, Independent, 292. Anthony
02:06Higginbotham, Conservative and Unionist Party, 8,058. Jack Simon Lorner, the Green Party,
02:171,518. Nathan Thomas McCullum, Reform UK, 7,755. David Roper, Independent, 151. Oliver
02:33David Ryan, Labour and Co-operative Party, 12,598. The number of ballot papers rejected
02:43was as follows. For want of an official mark, 1. Voting for more candidates than the voter
02:52was entitled to, 36. Writing a mark by which the voter could be identified, 1. Being unmarked
03:02for voting for uncertainty, 92. Rejected in part were 0. The total ballot papers issued
03:12were 39,849, with a turnout of 53.2%. And I do hereby declare that Oliver David Ryan
03:23is duly elected. So I'm just going to invite the candidates up on stage if they want to
03:37make a speech. Thank you. So let's start with the winning candidate. Thank you. Let me start
03:50by thanking the returning officer, all of the excellent staff, Birmingham Council, Handel
03:55Council and the police for ensuring this has been a free and fair election. Thank you.
04:06Labour is home. Country over party, stability over chaos, public service, future over past.
04:16To those people who have put their trust in me and this changed Labour Party, maybe for the first time,
04:21from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I will not let you down. Through this campaign, Labour
04:29have listened. I have listened. We need better public services, an NHS we can rely on, economic
04:36stability, decent housing and growth for everyone in Burnley, Paddyham and Brightfield. Whether
04:44you voted for Labour or not, I will work for you, for every person on every street.
04:50I will be a strong voice for our families, for our children, for our pensioners, our
04:55businesses and for prosperity and peace around the world, including in the Middle East and
05:02in Gaza. I want particularly to thank my election agent, Sue Graham, my organiser Hannah, our
05:10amazing team across Burnley, Paddyham and Brightfield, my family, especially my parents
05:15and grandparents. I want to thank Anzac for his service as Member of Parliament over the
05:21last few years and my greatest thanks go to the people of Burnley, Paddyham and Brightfield.
