00:00Hello, I'm Neil from The Evening News and this video is part of our retro series where
00:05we look back at historic pictures of Edinburgh. In this video we'll be heading back to 1964
00:12when legendary band The Beatles visited the capital. With Beatlemania in full swing, tickets
00:18to the Edinburgh shows were like gold dust. Here we see fans of the Fab Four summon sleeping
00:23bags queuing outside the ABC on Lothian Road for tickets. These Beatles fans were absolutely
00:30delighted to have scored tickets to see the iconic 60s band in Edinburgh. Here we see
00:36The Beatles arriving at Turnhouse Aerodrome, now known as Edinburgh Airport. In this picture
00:43The Beatles can be seen backstage at the ABC cinema on Lothian Road, ahead of their two
00:48shows on the 29th April 1964. Beatles fans can be seen queuing around the side and rear
00:56of the ABC cinema, along Morrison Street and Semple Street. Screaming fans were a familiar
01:03sight at Beatles shows, with many screaming throughout the whole show. The Liverpool band
01:09arrived in Edinburgh following a series of shows in London, Paris, New York, Washington
01:14and Miami, where they recorded their now famous appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.
01:20The iconic band were known to send their fans into a frenzy during their performances, with
01:25many unable to contain their excitement. And finally, in this picture we can see a young
01:31boy dressed in a kilt, who was lucky enough to meet the global stars John, Paul, George
