00:00So, let's get started with the big stories today as we lead off the show with LeBron
00:07James staying in Los Angeles and not at a discount either.
00:11Two years, $104 million, he returns to the Lakers, has a no trade clause, has a player
00:17option next summer and also ESPN reports that there's still a conversation with the Lakers
00:24about LeBron taking a little bit less so they can have some more roster flexibility.
00:30But needless to say, we always knew this was going to happen.
00:32LeBron's going to stay in LA.
00:34I don't think it's as much about the Lakers as it is about now his son is on the Lakers
00:38too.
00:39So, we'll see that transpire later on in the fall.
00:41Two rookies have been named to the WNBA All-Star game and the All-Star team, of course, no
00:46surprise here, Kaitlyn Clark and Angel Reese.
00:50They're both involved now in the game.
00:52And of course, since the WNBA began in 1999, there have been 473 players selected to the
00:58All-Star team.
00:59Clark and Reese are now the 29th and 30th rookies to have been named to the All-Star
01:03team.
01:04So, really cool moment there for them.
01:06Also last night in the WNBA, Angel Reese posts another double-double making it 11 straight
01:11for her.
01:12It's the longest streak in the WNBA in a single season, 12 points, 19 rebounds.
01:17Chicago Sky defeated the Atlanta Dream, 85 to 77.
01:22It was a great moment for Angel Reese though yesterday, noting that she made the All-Star
01:26game and, you know, sounded a little bit surprised by it.
01:29We won today, but they just told me I'm an All-Star and, I mean, I'm just so happy.
01:38I know the work I put in.
01:40Coming into this league, so many people doubted me and didn't think my game would translate
01:44and I wouldn't be the player that I was in college or better or would be worse and wouldn't
01:49be where I am right now, but I trusted the process and I believed and I'm thankful that
01:55I dropped to seven and was able to come to Chicago and, like, it's just a blessing.
02:00I can't thank my teammates and my coaches enough for just believing in me and trusting
02:04me and I know all of them are going to come to Phoenix and support me, so I'm really happy right now.
02:10Yeah, so I picked up a ball when I was four.
02:13My mom had me playing with my brother.
02:15My brother also plays basketball as well.
02:17My mom and dad both play basketball.
02:20Being an All-Star was never really on my list.
02:22Of course, being a champion, I really don't write down individual accolades.
02:25I always write down what I want as a team and walking out of there, I always wanted
02:29to be a winner.
02:30In college, I wanted nothing but to win and going to LSU and being able to win that national
02:34championship and then coming to Chicago and wanting to build this back up, it starts somewhere
02:40and I have to kind of give myself some grace of what I'm doing as a rookie, but again,
02:45being an All-Star wasn't really on my list as a rookie.
02:49It is there and it'll be a very watched event, I would guess, coming up later in the month.
02:55Now the Fever and Aces played last night in front of a crowd of 20,000 people, the highest
03:00attendance of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for a regular season game since 1999 and the
03:06reason, of course, it is the Indiana Fever.
03:08So Kaitlin Clark on the road traveling to Las Vegas and the Aces defeated Fever last
03:13night by a final of 88-69, not a huge surprise there.
03:16Las Vegas, one of the best, if not the best teams in the WNBA and naturally all the talk
03:21again after the game about who made the All-Star team, naturally it is Kaitlin Clark and she
03:26also talked about playing with Aja Wilson on the team.
03:29Obviously for myself to accomplish this in my rookie year, but I'm just lucky to be a
03:34part of these two or with these two and like you said, it's big for our franchise too.
03:39I think it just shows the talent we have and slowly just putting that together and the
03:42future is bright.
03:43Obviously me and A.B. like, you know, year one and year two, Kelsey here is a little
03:47bit older, but other than that, like, you know, it's pretty exciting.
03:52Yeah, it'll be like, I don't think I've ever been her teammate before with even a USA basketball
03:57or anything like that.
03:58So I know people are going to be really excited about it, but I hope it doesn't take away
04:02from everybody else.
04:04Like this is a huge accomplishment for everybody on Team USA and everybody on Team WNBA.
04:11They all deserve the same praise.
04:13I don't want it to take away from any of that and just be the focal point of All-Star weekend
04:16because that's not fair to them and, you know, obviously this is something that's really
04:19hard to accomplish.
04:20So the best we can celebrate all of them will be great and I'm just going to obviously soak
04:24in the experience because you never know if you're ever going to be able to get back there
04:27and it'll be fun for all of us, sure.
04:31Kaitlin Clark, All-Star game, sounds like a match made in the WNBA heaven.
04:35All right, let's talk about some of the other games last night.
04:38WNBA, the Liberty defeated the Minnesota Lynx.
04:40The final there, 76-67.
04:43New York is one of those other teams that has a great shot to win the championship this
04:46year.
04:4717-3 now on the season.
04:49Minnesota, not bad also, 14-5.
04:52Jonathan Isaac signs a five-year, $84 million contract extension with the Orlando Magic.
04:59$17.4 million he had in his contract.
05:02He's the 12th player since 2006 to have a contract renegotiated and extended.
05:07Kind of a surprise, I think, in the NBA for the Orlando Magic.
05:09Golden State Warriors have also landed a free agent.
05:12It's Kyle Anderson.
05:13Three years, $27 million.
05:15Warriors also used the players traded exception for Klay Thompson to bring on Anderson.
05:21Speaking of which, if Klay Thompson leaving Golden State, his dad, Michael Thompson, weighing
05:25in on NBA radio on Sirius XM yesterday saying that he was disappointed and was hoping that
05:30his son would end up being a Los Angeles Laker because, of course, Michael Thompson played
05:35for the Lakers once upon a time winning championships with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson,
05:40but I guess not going to happen.
05:41Klay Thompson, of course, signed with Dallas.
05:43All right, the homerun derby.
05:45We know Gunnar Henderson is in this thing.
05:47Can we get some other commitments?
05:48Because we're getting some non-commitments here.
05:50Shohei Otani yesterday saying that he is not going to participate in Texas.
05:5527 homeruns on the season, Otani having an MVP campaign, but, again, is going to be pitching
06:02at some point on a rehab, not going to pitch in the majors, but doesn't want to take away,
06:07I guess, from that.
06:08Who knows, really, what the deal is there.
06:10Like I told you, if he doesn't want to do it, he says no.
06:12Brewers have made a trade.
06:13They acquire another pitcher.
06:15They just keep finding these pitchers from different teams.
06:17They made a trade for Dallas Teichel the other day.
06:19Now they get Aaron Savalli from the Rays.
06:22They traded a minor league prospect named Gregory Barrios.
06:25Savalli, there's some room on the Rays starting pitching roster right now.
06:30They have a couple guys coming back from injury, so Savalli goes to Milwaukee to help them.
06:34Yesterday, final score 7-2, 5-run 10th inning again for the Mets.
06:38They keep scoring in extra innings, and the Mets become the fourth team in history to score 5 runs
06:43in extra innings in back-to-back games.
06:46Pretty impressive there.
06:46Also, the Orioles on the road late last night.
06:48In case you missed it, shut out the Seattle Mariners 2-0.
06:51Seattle really needs to get some hitting.
06:54All right, quarterfinals are set in the Euros and Copa America.
06:57Netherlands and Turkey advance from round 16 at the Euros to the quarterfinals,
07:04and so group play wraps up at Copa America with an eight-team knockout stage.
07:09The favorite to win Copa America, by the way, is Argentina at plus 115.
07:15The Euro favorite is England at plus 350, but Spain is also right there.
07:20Sixteen former men's college basketball players, including Mario Chalmers
07:24of the Kansas Jayhawks championship team and Sherron Collins, UConn guard Ryan Boatwright,
07:30Arizona guard Jason Terry, are suing the NCAA and other conferences for unauthorized use
07:36of their name, image, and likeness in March Madness highlights.
07:40This was not something they could do in the past,
07:42but naturally with the new NIL deals, now they can.
07:45Also, Bally Bet officially launches in Massachusetts.
07:49We'll tell you what that could potentially look like with Sam McQuillin
07:53from Legal Sports Report.
07:54He's going to join us in about 15 minutes.
07:56And also Team USA's gymnastic trials on television on Sunday over on NBC averaged 7.6 million viewers,
08:04peaking at 8.2.
08:06It was the most-watched Olympic trial since 2016.
08:10And those are our headlines here on the show today.
