00:00Oh, hi kids! I'm waiting for Larry. I've really missed him. He's been away at Danish Immersion Camp for the longest time.
00:11Thanks! Have a nice day!
00:13Surprise!
00:17Is that it?
00:18Is what it?
00:20Is anybody else gonna say surprise?
00:22Uh, no, Larry. It's just me.
00:25Oh. Well, you know, it's just that normally, there's a big group of people who pop up and say surprise at a surprise party.
00:35Well, everybody else is getting ready for the show. Oh, and it's a great one, Larry. You're gonna love it. It's...
00:40What's velkommen hegem, Larry?
00:44It's welcome home, Larry, in Danish. You should know that.
00:48How's that?
00:49You just spent the last three months in Danish Immersion Camp.
00:53Oh, yeah, well, I didn't exactly go to Danish Immersion Camp.
00:57What?
00:58Well, I did, kinda. I mean, I was there for a day, and then me and this kid, Bjorn, took a canoe ride out on a lake and got lost.
01:05We ended up at another camp.
01:07What camp was that?
01:09Overdone British Literary Adaptations Camp.
01:11Oh, man! Now what am I gonna tell Chester?
01:15Well, what's his problem?
01:16Here, read this.
01:19Dear Bob and Larry, some of the kids at school make fun of me.
01:24They call me names and tell me I'm no good at anything. What should I do?
01:29Hey, wait a minute. I read a story at camp that might be just what Chester needs.
01:35It's a classic of British literature called Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
01:40Uh, Larry, isn't that story a little scary?
01:44Well, sure, if you tell it that way.
01:46But if you change things around a little bit, I think we have a story Chester would enjoy.
01:51Chester, get ready for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Sly.
01:56Huh?
01:57Roll film!
02:15Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Sly
02:32Your tea, Mr. Butterbun.
02:34There'll be no tea today, fool. There's trouble brewing.
02:40Um, there's no trouble brewing, sir. I just heated up some water and...
02:44Not the tea, fool. Not the tea. It's that creature in the alley.
02:52There's something wrong with his appearance. Something displeasing. Something downright detestable.
03:00Well, I watched him dance last night. He looks a little weird, but he's got some great moves.
03:06That's where you're wrong, fool. Don't let his fancy footwork fool you.
03:12Ah, and watch this. The monster is afoot in Dr. Jekyll's house.
03:20Quick, fool. We've got to warn the doctor.
03:29Oh, Mr. Butterbun.
03:31Dr. Jekyll, thank goodness you're all right.
03:34Well, yeah, I...
03:36We've come to warn you. You've an intruder. A detestable disco dancing villain ducked through your back door.
03:43Oh, yeah. Well, you must mean Mr. Sly.
03:48Mr. Sly?
03:50Oh, yeah. Man, can that guy dance or what?
03:54Yeah, didn't I tell you? That little thing he does with his hips? He's got to be the best dancer in the whole world.
04:00What? You're in cahoots with that creature?
04:03Well, yeah. I mean, you gotta like a guy who can dance like that, right?
04:09Well, I suppose.
04:12I know I could never dance like that. I mean, just look at me. I'm too jiggly.
04:20Ever since I was a little boy in widely tailored pants,
04:27my only aspiration was to be a gourd who danced.
04:33But for what it's worth, my portly girth only served to make folks giggle.
04:39For the more I moved, the more I proved, all I could do was jiggle.
04:48I want to dance. I want to groove.
04:56I need to feel the rush of the wind under my shoes.
05:06I want to dance.
05:12What was I saying?
05:14Brahma must be rising. Me joints are locking up.
05:17Yep. I think Mr. Sly is great.
05:21On account of his non-jiggly wonderful dancing and all, you guys would really like him. I know you would.
05:28Look, Dr. Jiggle, maybe I've been a bit harsh about this Mr. Sly friend of yours.
05:35Perhaps I owe him an apology. Would you mind introducing us?
05:42No. I'm afraid that's not possible. You see, he's real busy.
05:48But now if you'll excuse me, gentlemen, I have work to do.
05:52Gotta do doctor stuff. Bye.
05:56Good night.
05:58Poor Dr. Jiggle. Something tells me he's in trouble pool.
06:03And I suspect it's no small fault of that new friend of his.
06:07I'm going to get to the bottom of this. If he be Mr. Sly, I shall be Mr. Sneak.
06:15Huh?
06:28Shh. It's him. Do you have it?
06:31Yeah, I got it.
06:33Now, remember, you give Mr. Sly the invitation before he starts dancing.
06:39Once he finishes, we'll go back to my house and have a nice talk over tea.
06:44Then we'll see what he's got up his sleeve.
06:47Got it.
06:49Okay. Go.
07:03Whoa!
07:33Whoa!
07:52What time is it?
07:54It's 1158. Mr. Sly will be out at any minute.
07:58Look, pool, this may be the last chance we get.
08:02I haven't seen or heard from Dr. Jiggle in two days.
08:05No more mamsy-pamsy pleasantries.
08:08When Sly comes out, we nab him, pure and simple. Got it?
08:12Huh?
08:14Dr. Jiggle!
08:16Oh, good evening, gentlemen.
08:18I trust you're well, doctor.
08:21I've been feeling a little woozy lately.
08:25Look, doctor, why don't you join us?
08:28We're about to watch your friend dance.
08:31Would you like to get outside and whip up your circulation?
08:35Well, I, uh...
08:42Dr. Jiggle!
08:55All right, you flashy fiend.
08:58What have you done with the doctor?
09:00I said, what have you done with Dr. Jiggle?
09:05What?
09:06Those eyes.
09:08I know those eyes.
09:10Something so familiar.
09:14Could it be?
09:17Dr. Jiggle!
09:19But wh... wh...
09:21Why?
09:23I've been taking dance lessons.
09:27All I ever wanted to do was dance.
09:30But I was afraid people would laugh at me...
09:34...for being so silly.
09:36I'm sorry, Dr. Jiggle.
09:38I'm sorry, Dr. Jiggle.
09:40I'm sorry, Dr. Jiggle.
09:42I was afraid people would laugh at me...
09:45...for being so jiggly.
09:47So you dressed up like that kooky creature so people wouldn't laugh at you?
09:52And so people would like me.
09:54You gotta like a guy who can dance and not jiggle, right?
09:59But, man, did that costume hurt.
10:02I think I bruised my spleen.
10:04Dr. Jiggle, we've always liked you.
10:07Jiggle and all.
10:08Really?
10:09You can bet your wacky wig.
10:11And I think it's great you've been taking dancing lessons.
10:15But you don't need that silly spleen-bruising get-up to dance.
10:19You're special just the way God made you.
10:22Really?
10:23Say, that little move you do with your hips...
10:26...you mind showing a rusty old carrot how it's done?
10:30I love that move.
10:31I've always loved that move.
10:33But I can't do that.
10:36Dr. Jiggle!
10:39Oh, why not?
10:42Great!
10:43I can't wait to see it.
10:45Stand back.
10:46Give him room.
10:55I can do it!
10:57I can do it!
10:59You see, Dr. Jiggle, when you know God made you special...
11:03...it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.
11:05You can just be yourself.
11:08Though your only aspiration was to be a gourd who danced.
11:13What I never knew that I could do in widely tailored pants.
11:18But for what it's worth, your portly girth doesn't make me want to giggle.
11:23You dance when weighed, you're specially made.
11:25We love our Dr. Jiggle.
11:29I want to dance.
11:33I want to groove.
11:38I need to feel...
11:40...the rush of the wind...
11:43...under my shoes.
11:48He wants to dance.
11:50Oh yeah, I can dance!
11:52He wants to groove.
11:54You can dance if you want to.
11:56He needs to feel...
11:59...the rush of the wind.
12:02Under his shoes.
12:07I want to dance.
12:12And now, a Snoodle's Tale.
12:17Far, far away in the land of galoots...
12:19...where the bigglebag trees bear their bigglebag fruits...
12:22...and far lily bushes all blossom in yellow...
12:25...and finbottle plants squirt snoo-berry jello.
12:30Here, where the mountains of Rocky Magoo...
12:32...rise high o'er the meadows of Gilda Manjoo...
12:35...where sunsets are painted with purple and blue...
12:38...you'll find a small town, not much bigger than you.
12:43Welcome to Snoodleburg, home of the Snoodles.
12:46A curious folk who eat pancakes with noodles...
12:48...and spend half their days making sketches and doodles...
12:51...and cutting their hair into shakes like French poodles.
12:56Now, right in the heart of this curious town...
12:58...is a curious building, the tallest around.
13:01With a clock at its top and a chute at its bottom...
13:04...'tis pink in the spring and turns red in the autumn.
13:08But weirder by far than its color or height...
13:11...is what happens there every fourth Tuesday night.
13:14As strange as it seems, it has been demonstrated...
13:17...that Snoodles aren't born, but rather, created.
13:23Every fourth Tuesday at quarter past nine...
13:25...the tower will shimmy and rattle and whine...
13:28...and as the town nibbles on Biggleback fruit...
13:31...a shiny young Snoodle will drop from the chute.
13:35That's where they come from, though no one knows why...
13:38...nor who could have built the great tower so high.
13:41These mysteries of life befuddle most Snoodles...
13:44...who'd much rather focus on pancakes and noodles...
13:47...and cutting their hair into shapes like French poodles.
13:51Yes, most found the tower too noisy and strange...
13:55...until one small Snoodle made all of that change.
14:01This little Snoodle was much like the others.
14:04He came without siblings, no sisters or brothers.
14:07He came without money, a mom or a dad.
14:10The pack on his back was all that he had.
14:14This is peculiar, the little guy said.
14:17I came from a chute and I fell on my head?
14:20What do I look like? What am I for?
14:23He pondered those questions and then thought of more.
14:27Checking my bag is a good place to start.
14:30He pulled out some paints.
14:32Maybe I'm good at art.
14:34The next thing he found was a Snoodle kazoo.
14:37Hey, what do you know? I can make music too.
14:41Then back on his pack he pulled a small string...
14:44...and out from the sides popped two little wings.
14:47Amazing!
14:48He said with a gleam in his eye.
14:50I can paint, play kazoo and now I can fly.
14:53Wait till the others see all the great things...
14:56...I can do with my paints, my kazoo and my wings.
15:00So he packed up his paints and his Snoodle kazoo...
15:03...and he hopped off to show them all what he could do.
15:08There from the top of a short stubby wall...
15:11...the big Snoodles heard the new small Snoodle call.
15:14Watch me, you guys, as I head for the sky.
15:17He straightened his wings with a gleam in his eye.
15:21Then he jumped and he flapped like the red snootered finches...
15:25...that fly from the plains to the peak of Mount Ginges.
15:28His flight, unlike theirs, covered only 12 inches.
15:33You call that flying?
15:35You think you're a bird?
15:37We've never seen anything quite so absurd.
15:40The old Snoodle snorted. He sniggered. He shook.
15:43I'll paint you a picture to show how you looked.
15:46The brush strokes were skillful. The colors were coolish.
15:50The story they told made the young one feel foolish.
15:54Take it from us, said a Snoodle named Lou.
15:57Flying just isn't what you're meant to do.
16:01The young Snoodle drooped. He felt his heart sag.
16:05The painting the old Snoodle placed in his bag.
16:08Carry this with you, the old Snoodle said.
16:11Your visions of flying don't go to your head.
16:14The weight on his back was as heavy as lead.
16:19So under the weight of the picture he bore...
16:22...he hobbled along feeling lonely and sore.
16:26Till up far ahead on a bench near the tower...
16:29...he spied a bright bundle of farlily flowers.
16:34His heart started lifting.
16:36What beautiful things.
16:38I've got more than wings.
16:41So quickly he dug the paints out of his pack...
16:44...and hoped that with art maybe he'd have the knack.
16:47I did it, he yelled to the Snoodles in town...
16:50...then held up his picture as they gathered round.
16:53You did it all right, said the Snoodles replying.
16:56You showed you're no better at painting than flying.
17:00Then one of them laughed and while eating a waffle...
17:03...painted a picture that made him feel awful.
17:07You're puny.
17:08You're silly.
17:09You're not all that smart.
17:11You can't use your wings and you're no good at art.
17:15That picture too was placed in his pack...
17:18...and made his heart slump just as low as his back.
17:24I'm ugly, I'm foolish and so very small.
17:28I don't think I should be with Snoodles at all.
17:33And so he decided to get out of town.
17:36His wings hung so low that they dragged on the ground.
17:41He walked past the tower and out of the city.
17:45He walked through the fields and thought...
17:47My, this is pretty.
17:49The far lily bushes all blooming in yellow...
17:52...and thin but old plants squirting snowberry jello.
17:55I might like it here, said the small Snoodle fellow.
18:00Then feeling some warmth coming back to his chest...
18:03...he thought he would sit for a moment and rest.
18:06But try as he might to sit down with grace...
18:09...the weight on his back knocked him flat on his face.
18:14Ha, that's a hoot, said a voice from behind.
18:18A farmer stood up with a thimble vine.
18:21Why, you need a picture, my Snoodleburg bud.
18:25Lest you forget how you look in the mud.
18:29And so in an instant the picture was done...
18:31...and placed in his backpack which now weighed a ton.
18:36The poor Snoodle struggled.
18:38He wobbled, he groaned.
18:40He stood to his feet and he said with a moan...
18:43Is there anywhere I can be truly alone?
18:47Just then overhead flew two red-snootered finches...
18:51...winging their way toward the peak of Mount Ginges.
18:55I see, said the Snoodle.
18:57Then that's what I'll do.
18:59The home for those finches will be my home too.
19:06So painfully, struggling under his pack...
19:09...the small Snoodle inched up the big mountain's back.
19:13He crawled over boulders in rain and in lightning.
19:17He trudged on and on, though the journey was frightening.
19:23Till finally on Sunday at quarter past two...
19:26...he spied all the meadows of Gilda Manju...
19:29...and realized he was on top of Mount Ginges...
19:33...alone with the wind and his thoughts and the finches.
19:40He thought of the Snoodles.
19:42He thought of the tower.
19:44He thought of the bell that would chime on the hour.
19:47He thought of his pack and his very long walk.
19:50He thought it so loudly he heard his thoughts talk.
19:54Hello, said his thoughts.
19:56You've made quite a climb.
19:58That voice, he remarked, doesn't sound much like mine.
20:03Then he turned and he noticed he wasn't alone...
20:06...for a man stood behind, near a cave in the stone.
20:10He looked like a Snoodle, though quite a bit bigger.
20:14Maybe a giant, the small Snoodle figured.
20:17I'm going, the Snoodle boy said with a huff.
20:20And don't paint a picture. I've got quite enough.
20:23But first, come inside, the man said.
20:26Have some tea.
20:28I'm so very pleased that you're visiting me.
20:31The Snoodle boy stopped, though he'd only gone inches...
20:34...and stared at the stranger he'd found on Mount Ginges.
20:37He didn't seem angry.
20:39In fact, he looked kind.
20:42The poor little boy was confused.
20:44Are you blind?
20:46I'm puny. I'm silly.
20:48I'm not all that smart.
20:50I can't use my wings and I'm no good at art.
20:54The stranger leaned down with a pain in his heart.
20:58Who told you these things, he asked.
21:01How do you know?
21:03These pictures I have in my pack tell me so.
21:06The small Snoodle sniffled and started to go.
21:10First, if you please, let me look at this art...
21:13...that makes your pack heavy and weighs down your heart.
21:18Then, picture by picture, he unpacked the bag...
21:21...that bent the poor Snoodle and made his wings sag.
21:28Dear boy, said the man.
21:30These look nothing like you.
21:33Then into the fire the pictures he threw.
21:36He rose from his chair, saying...
21:38Wait there. You'll see.
21:40But what you need most is a picture from me.
21:44The Snoodle sat patiently, sipping his tea.
21:49Then from a room in the back, he returned and said...
21:52Dear little Snoodle, it's time that you learned...
21:55...what you really look like.
21:57And he threw off the sheet...
21:59...and what the boy saw warmed him right to his feet.
22:04The boy in the portrait looked older and strong...
22:07...with wings on his back that were sturdy and long...
22:10...and a look in his eye both courageous and free.
22:14Sir?
22:16Asked the boy.
22:17Are you saying that's me?
22:20I'd like to believe it, but, sir, I'm afraid to.
22:24But I know who you are.
22:27The man said.
22:28For I made you.
22:31I built the tower and set it in motion.
22:34I planted the meadow, put fish in the ocean...
22:37...and I feed the finches, though most Snoodles doubt it.
22:41Not one of them falls that I don't know about it.
22:44I've seen you fall down in the mud and the goo.
22:47I've seen all you've done and all you will do.
22:51I gave you your pack and your paints and your wings.
22:55I chose them for you.
22:56They're your special things.
22:59I made a Snoodle kazoo so you can sing...
23:02...about colors in autumn or flowers in spring.
23:06I gave you your brushes in hopes that you'd see...
23:09...how using them you could make pictures for me.
23:13Most of the Snoodles, the old one said sadly...
23:16...just use their paints to make others feel badly.
23:21The young Snoodle pondered the things he'd been told...
23:24...then, wondering something, grew suddenly bold.
23:27Sir, if you made this incredible land...
23:30...can't you make Snoodles obey your command?
23:34The big one smiled warmly, then said to the small...
23:37A gift that's demanded is no gift at all.
23:43With that, the small Snoodle reached into his pack...
23:46...and pulled out the picture he'd made ten miles back.
23:49They're for Lily, sir, from over the bridge.
23:52The old one beamed bright and said...
23:55That's for my fridge.
23:57After the small Snoodle's picture was hung...
24:00...the old one bent down to the face of the young.
24:03He said...
24:04Here's what you look like. Here's how I see you.
24:07Keep this in your pack and you'll find it will free you...
24:11...from all of the pictures and all of the lies...
24:14...that others made up just to cut down your size.
24:18And lastly, your wings.
24:21You know what they're for.
24:23But not just to fly, son.
24:26I want you to soar.
24:30But sir, said the Snoodle...
24:32How can I fly?
24:34This picture's so big, I won't get very high.
24:38But this picture's special. It's bigger, it's brighter.
24:42Carry it close and I think you'll feel lighter.
24:46As soon as he heard it, the Snoodle looked down...
24:49...and noticed that he was an inch off the ground.
24:52He laughed and he leaped and he flew from the cave...
24:55...feeling now older and stronger and brave.
24:58And he flew through the clouds and he flew with the finches.
25:01He soared up and down around the peak of Mount Ginges.
25:04He flew over far lily bushes in yellow...
25:07...and thin-buttled plants squirting snoo-berry jello.
25:10He flew over biggle-bag trees and their fruits...
25:13...in Big Lazy Loops or the Land of Galoose.
25:17Then hurried back home to the center of town...
25:19...where the Snoodles all stood with their wings on the ground.
25:23And starting precisely at quarter past two...
25:26...he told them the story that I just told you.
25:32The End
25:43Wow, Bob! Did you make that story up yourself?
25:46Well, I...
25:47That was great! You would have fit in great at camp.
25:50Well, I did go to overused literary emulation camp last summer.
25:55Oh, yeah! That's right across the road.
25:58Well, I, uh...
25:59Anyway, we're over here by Cordy to talk about what we learned today.
26:03And so what we have learned applies to our lives today.
26:08God has a lot to say in his book.
26:11We know that God's word is for everyone.
26:15And now that our song is done we'll take a look.
26:19You see, the little Snoodle got weighed down...
26:22...by the pictures of him the others were painting.
26:24Just like the names people call us make us feel terrible.
26:27But just like the Snoodles, we have a creator.
26:30God made us!
26:32And when we know what he thinks of us and how he sees us...
26:35...it doesn't matter what anyone else says.
26:38Cordy, can you tell us what the Bible says about us?
26:43I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
26:48Psalm 139.14
26:50So, Chester, the kids at school can only see the way you look right now.
26:55But God sees you the way you're meant to be.
26:58You're stronger, smarter, and braver than you think.
27:01And God has given you amazing gifts.
27:04You can use your gifts to make the people around you feel better...
27:08...and to do things for God that'll end up on his fridge.
27:12Do you know why?
27:13Oh, oh, oh! I think I know, Bob.
27:16Because God made you special and he loves you very much.
27:21Well, say goodnight, Larry.
27:23Farvel! That's Danish for goodbye.
27:26Learn that one before the canoe ride.
27:28Right.
27:29I want to dance!
27:54I want to go!
27:59I need to feel the rush of the wind under my shoes!
28:09He wants to go!
28:12Oh, yeah, I can dance!
28:14He wants to go!
28:16You can dance if you want to!
28:18He needs to feel the rush of the wind under his shoes!
28:27I want to dance!
