00:00The Philippines and China agreed to ease tensions in the West Philippine Sea.

00:06This happened in a bilateral consultation held following China's harassment of Filipino soldiers in Ayungin Shoal on June 17,

00:15when one of them was injured.

00:17According to the Department of Foreign Affairs,

00:20the need to restore trust and confidence in each other and to establish favorable conditions for dialogue was discussed.

00:28Undersecretary Maria Teresa Lazaro, the Vice Foreign Minister of China,

00:35the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines did not stop the Philippines from protecting its interests, sovereignty, and jurisdiction in the West Philippine Sea.

00:44China called for a halt to the escalation and to allow the Philippine and Chinese authorities to take control of the situation in Ayungin Shoal.

00:54The GMA Integrated News asked the Chinese Embassy for clarification on what it meant, but they did not have an answer.
