00:00People are very aware that those classic holiday spots are very crowded now, aren't they?
00:12Millions of people have gone over the years, thousands of people descend and it's not really
00:16good for tourism or the place.
00:19Those cruise ships come in, thousands of people get off for a day and then they get back on
00:23and they don't really contribute to the local economy and they put the infrastructure of
00:28such a beautiful place under pressure.
00:30So I think people are a bit more aware of not going on that mass tourism way.
00:35We're definitely seeing a drift, sort of travelling in what we would call a bit of a lighter touch.
00:42Even despite the cost of living crisis, new Barclays data has found that Brits will spend
00:47around £178bn on memorable experiences this summer.
00:51But amid tightening budgets and protests against mass tourism in Spain, how are Britain's holiday
00:56habits changing?
00:58I think increasingly we're going to see two things, you know, destinations and you're
01:02seeing it very extremely in Spain, wanting to shut down some of that mass tourism that
01:08sort of overwhelms a place and you don't have a great experience and the locals don't have
01:12a great experience, to sort of more responsible travel where you maybe go less volume, you
01:18go a lighter touch way or you seek out less visited places but you do it in a way that's
01:24really immersive and full of experiences.
01:27So we are seeing that change and we're seeing countries really sort of react to that overwhelming
01:33sort of mass tourism that has been wonderful to grow economies in the past but now is creating
01:39issues with locals and sort of putting local infrastructure under pressure and not making
01:45it a great experience for everyone.
01:47So I think, you know, that sort of values driven travel is certainly coming to the fore.
01:52You know, people have a much more awareness of the impact of tourism for bad and for good.
