00:00Grand Kerala is a South Indian restaurant on Carver Street in Sheffield.
00:05It opened at the end of 2023 and since then it's been tempting me every single day.
00:11Finally, it was time to give it a go.
00:13Me and my friend entered the restaurant quite late on a Friday night,
00:17but we were seen to a table and given the menu which has lots of options.
00:21Having already had a few drinks on West Street, we were quite happy for tap water.
00:26The restaurant owner spent £200,000 refurbishing this restaurant which used to be in Italian.
00:32I've had to mute the background music for copyright reasons,
00:35but the restaurant was playing very loud sort of Indian dance R&B music which was pretty cool.
00:41After a very short wait, our meals were brought to the table.
00:44I ordered a paneer butter masala and my friend ordered a mutton biryani.
00:50We weren't overly impressed by the general look of this meal,
00:54but honestly it tasted really good.
00:57There was a moment of initial confusion because we had ordered rice,
01:01but it just came a little bit later.
01:03So I tried my curry with a bit of papadum, some rice and also the Kerala paratha,
01:08which you might have seen earlier.
01:10It was like a layered flatbread type thing. It was really good.
01:14We were also given these two little dips.
01:16I'm not really sure what they were, but they did add a little something something.
01:20Steadily, we made our way through our meals and we were very impressed.
01:24The masala had lots of levels of seasoning and flavour and also a little bit of heat.
01:30We did also get this stunning glass of water.
01:34All in all, our meal came to £26.
01:36You can see the breakdown there, which we thought was really good value.
01:40There was no service charge, but we did give 10% tip.
01:43This restaurant also has a shisha lounge, which I think can be used upstairs.
01:48We were in and out of the restaurant in about 50 minutes,
01:51and overall we're pleased to say that we can recommend this restaurant.
