00:00Since the turn of the century, technology has rapidly improved.
00:04Our reality is now filled with things that were mere dreams in the past few decades.
00:08Seeing how the past has unfolded, I was curious about what the next 30 years would look like.
00:13So I did a little digging into what life might look like in 2050 for us.
00:17Let's take a look.
00:20Nanotechnology
00:21First, let's take a look at nanotechnology.
00:23Over the years, scientists have made exciting developments and discovered numerous innovative
00:28applications for nanotechnology.
00:30As it stands, nanotechnology has the potential to change life as we know it.
00:34Experts in the field believe that nanobots will, in the future, be fitted into our brains
00:38to connect us to the virtual world more readily and faster.
00:42With the use of brain-computer interface technology, the mind and computer will be one, making
00:47humans very powerful beings with access to endless information and solutions to problems
00:52that the mind wouldn't be able to solve.
00:54If nanotechnology reaches that stage, there may be no need for gadgets like phones and
00:58calculators.
00:59Well, this is very exciting for the student of the future.
01:02Looks like math will not be a universal challenge much longer.
01:063D print technology
01:08The next tech advancement that we can expect in the future is the rise of 3D print technology.
01:133D print technology is already advanced, but we can expect it to be even more advanced
01:18in 2050.
01:19Right now, we have 3D printed tools and homes.
01:22In the future, we will be able to print more tools and perhaps even some modes of transportation
01:27if bigger machines are built.
01:28This technology will also become more accessible to everyone who may want a 3D printer, making
01:33the possibilities of what can be printed infinite.
01:36If the current trend of open-source 3D printable files continues, it will not be long before
01:41everyone prints their own large objects like furniture and weapons.
01:44Well, here's an idea.
01:46How about developing an affordable 3D printer for food?
01:49That could be the end of world hunger, despite global warming.
01:53Medical
01:54Now we go from the extinction of phones to the eradication of death.
01:58Well, by 2050, the finality of death may be a thing of the past.
02:02With the brain connected to a computer through BCI technology, the information stored in
02:06our brains can be transferred into a hard disk, like computer files.
02:10That means the data, including memories, can be retrieved and uploaded into another being.
02:15Maybe a more advanced humanoid robot.
02:17This way, the best minds in every field will be preserved, and able to continue working
02:21on innovations.
02:23Another improvement to consider in the medical field is that serious diseases like cancer
02:27will be cured.
02:28The only downside to this development is that every new technology is very expensive when
02:33it first comes out, so the rest of us may not have access to this literally life-saving
02:37technology for a while.
02:40Transportation
02:41Something that we may have access to is transportation.
02:43In 2050, transportation will have immensely changed.
02:47With experimentation focused on self-driving cars already underway from car manufacturers
02:52such as Tesla, it is not much of a stretch to believe that by 2050, the technology for
02:56fully automated vehicles will exist.
02:59Some notable advantages of such automated vehicles include a drastic reduction in traffic-related
03:04deaths, because the vehicles will collaborate with traffic control systems.
03:08Another advantage is the change in lifestyle that self-driving vehicles will bring.
03:12With no need to man a vehicle, people will be free to choose whether to relax or be more
03:16productive as they travel.
03:18A lot of free time, considering the amount of time spent in traffic.
03:21Another interesting development is the Hyperloop One project by Elon, which aims to move the
03:26bulk of public transportation underground.
03:28With the use of electromagnetic levitation at historic speeds of 310 kilometers per hour,
03:34this train presents the opportunity for a faster, cheaper, and cleaner mode of transportation.
03:39And if more people opt for it, then there will be even fewer traffic-related incidents.
03:44Fuel
03:46While on transportation, the fuel used in all future transportation modes will be renewable
03:50energy.
03:51Currently, the world is plagued by global warming and the threat of depleting natural
03:55resources, so we do need to be looking at adapting to a more sustainable source of energy.
04:00Now, Hyperloop One is exploring electromagnetic levitation, and the automobile industry has
04:05also been looking for ways to reduce harmful vehicle emissions.
04:08These are all efforts aimed at achieving the goal of stopping the use of carbon-emitting
04:12fuels.
04:13For years, research is being done on the ocean's wind, solar, and thermal energy.
04:17One company in particular, BlueRise, a specialist developer of ocean thermal energy conversion,
04:22is working on a project that could completely phase out the use of fossil fuels.
04:27Hopefully, BlueRise and their colleagues will be successful soon enough to alleviate some
04:31of the environmental problems we face.
04:34Space Exploration
04:35Now, if there is one thing that has been mentioned as a mitigating option for our current environmental
04:40challenges, it's space exploration and colonization.
04:44Companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin are set on revolutionizing space technology, with
04:48goals of spatial exploration and ultimately enabling people to live on other planets in
04:53colonies.
04:54With all the strides already made, by 2050 space tourism will also be a reality for those
04:59who can afford it.
05:00The possibilities for holiday destinations will expand to include places like Mars and
05:04the Moon.
05:05Unfortunately, a trip to orbit will be significantly expensive, making it exclusive for the
05:11extremely wealthy, at least at first.
05:13Artificial Intelligence
05:15Something that may be available for everyone is artificial intelligence.
05:19Already more advanced than most of the innovations mentioned here, the development of artificial
05:23intelligence will only get better through the years.
05:26Experts in the field believe that AI will surpass the processing power of living brains.
05:31That wouldn't be scary if it didn't open the door to the robopocalypse.
05:34Luckily, scientists still have to figure out how to impart all the important human values
05:39into an AI before it can become a part of our everyday life.
05:43But the rise of AI will, of course, change the face of the workforce.
05:47Not only that, but the job market will also face radical change, and with the way things
05:51are going, about half of the world's current jobs will be extinct, taken over by AI machines
05:56and robots.
05:57In 2050, the world will be more interconnected and even more driven by data than it is now.
06:02Some of us will definitely need to consider a career change.
06:06Education
06:07As the job market changes, education will also see some significant changes.
06:12Already there has been an increase in digital learning, especially during the pandemic.
06:16By 2050, completely digital schools will be commonplace.
06:19Even if we have physically attended schools, they will have no need for books, using tablets
06:24and laptops instead.
06:25For higher education, experts believe that more than 70% of the student population will
06:30be enrolled in online degrees, making education more globalised.
06:33A rather welcome step in the right direction if we are to make good education accessible
06:37to all, I believe.
06:39Online degrees may even be taught by AI-powered robots.
06:42At that time, I imagine the robots will be able to prepare course material, give lectures
06:46and mark assignments.
06:48Sadly, you may be unable to twist your lecturer's arm, so they give you a deadline extension.
06:53The Metaverse
06:54Now we move on to the Metaverse.
06:57Since Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced it, virtual reality and AI have been assimilated
07:02into our everyday life through the social media giant.
07:05For those who may be a bit confused about the Metaverse, you're not alone, and you've
07:08come to the right place.
07:10The Metaverse is a virtual reality, computer-generated environment in which you can interact with
07:14other users through AI-enabled software.
07:17So it's about simulation, with avatars representing users.
07:21As Metaverse functions get more developed, by 2050 it will be able to offer a full virtual
07:26experience that includes shopping, to travel right from the comfort of your own home.
07:30People will have the option to share their virtual experiences with the world.
07:34Imagine taking a trip to your favourite holiday destination with your family, only you're
07:38not physically there.
07:39That's what the Metaverse will offer.
07:41It seems to me like the more we get connected, the more we stay apart.
07:45Money
07:46Next is money.
07:47Even though we will still use money, one thing that has been used less and less over the
07:51years is cash.
07:52Keeping up with that trend, cash will most likely no longer be used in 2050.
07:56All transactions will be done virtually, and new modes of financial transactions will
08:01emerge because of AI and decentralized finance.
08:04As the world slowly starts to adopt those technologies, we may not even have to do our
08:08own grocery shopping anymore, making traditional paper and plastic money even less useful.
08:13Like Tesla, which orders its own car parts as needed, our automated pantries and refrigerators
08:18may order our groceries.
08:20No more getting the wrong milk, or even running out of milk.
08:23Real Estate
08:25Speaking of the automation of home appliances, the homes in 2050 will also be completely
08:29automated smart homes.
08:31Although smart homes already exist, the developments that will be available in the next few decades
08:35will be a great improvement to what we have now.
08:38Smart homes in 2050 will have full AI activation functions, allowing the home to sense our
08:43moods and requirements without giving it a single command.
08:46Additionally, interactive hologram televisions will exist, meaning that you can verbally
08:50call up your hologram TV and it will appear right in front of you.
08:54The best part?
08:55You will never have to look for the remote again, because you can control the TV with
08:59your mind using nanotechnology, as discussed at the beginning of the video.
09:03So with that, we have come full circle in this video of exploring what our lives will
09:07look like in 2050.
09:09To be honest, this is just an exercise of imagination, and I realize that not everything
09:13discussed in this video will come true.
09:15However, you'd have to agree that none of this is too far-fetched either, as humanity
09:19has already planted the roots of many of these technologies.
09:23Anyways, one thing is for certain with how technology is progressing.
09:26I have no doubt that the world will be very different by 2050, but I do hope that our
09:31current societal systems and structures will be able to cope with these coming innovations.
09:35So what do you think of these future innovations?
09:38Do you think this is what life will look like in 2050?
