The meeting was the first of its kind in six years as Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk attempts to mend ties with his German counterpart.
Transcript
00:00Polish and German representatives have met for the first time in six years for governmental
00:05talks.
00:06Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz marked a new phase
00:12of collaboration between the two countries and held discussions on reconciliation, migration
00:17and security.
00:18In this awareness, we will build our cooperation in the area of security and defense on a target
00:23basis, combine our capabilities and coordinate with each other.
00:27To be more specific, we will take on a leadership role in the Baltic Sea region and in the protection
00:32of NATO's eastern flank.
00:34Putin has destroyed the European peace and security order with his unlawful attack on
00:40Ukraine and has endangered security on the entire European continent.
00:45Donald Tusk also made a very concrete reference to his Safe Skies Over Europe initiative.
01:15Experts, however, noted that apart from the willingness to act together expressed by both
01:32sides, no specific sums, dates and actions were declared.
01:38Poland has put a lot on the table already and proposed a lot of initiatives in regards
01:44bilateral cooperation for joint security in Europe, and we have not heard anything about
01:52symbolic gestures from the side of German Chancellor.
01:59With meetings such as today, one thing is clear.
02:02For Poland, security issues at home, in the region and in Europe remain a priority, and
02:07the search for allies, especially in times of changing governments and public sentiments,
02:12is a key matter.
02:13But for more than declarations, we will still have to wait.
