Trump amplifies posts calling for televised military tribunal for Liz Cheney

00:00Donald Trump celebrating, as you might imagine, the court's decision, hoping to use it to
00:05get rid of all the cases against him.
00:07CNN's Elena Train has more on this.
00:10Trump is offering a bit of a preview, I think, of what's to come.
00:13He's been all over social media talking about the decision.
00:18That's right.
00:19And in recent days there, he's actually ramped up his rhetoric, calling for retribution against
00:24his political enemies.
00:26And look, this language from Donald Trump isn't exactly new.
00:29He has been calling for retribution for several months now and really made it a big part of
00:34his campaign.
00:35However, in light of the Supreme Court's decision, especially saying that, you know, presidents
00:41have absolute immunity for official acts, it has called into question whether or not
00:47if Donald Trump were to seek retribution as a president, what that would mean and if he
00:51could face any blowback for it.
00:53Now, we did hear Donald Trump yesterday speaking to a local radio station in Virginia, criticizing
00:59Steve Bannon, his former aide, for going to federal prison for contempt of Congress.
01:03And he said Biden is going to pay a big price for it.
01:06Take a listen to what he said.
01:10What they've done in this country is unthinkable and Biden is going to pay a big price for
01:15it, I believe, because I think that the people are going to say, well, wow, you've opened
01:20up a Pandora's box.
01:22This is a terrible thing that they've opened up.
01:24They've unleashed this.
01:25This is for third world countries.
01:27No, they've they've wanted to silence Steve Bannon.
01:30And the only way they could do it was by putting them in jail.
01:37Now, Donald Trump also over the weekend in a much more troubling post called for Liz
01:44Cheney, or I should say he reposted a Truth Social post saying that Liz Cheney should
01:49face military tribunals.
01:51I'm going to read for you some of what this post said.
01:52It said, quote, Elizabeth Lynn Cheney is guilty of treason.
01:56Retruth if you want military tribunals.
01:59Now, we did hear from Cheney herself, the former congresswoman.
02:02She wrote that this is the type of thing that demonstrates yet again that you are not a
02:06stable adult and are not fit for office.
02:09We also saw Donald Trump share a different post calling for the jailing of President
02:14Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, his former vice president, Mike Pence.
02:19Again, all very troubling posts that I think it's hard with Donald Trump.
02:24We know that a lot of people kind of take this as just language he uses, rhetoric he
02:29uses. However, many of his strongest and fiercest supporters do read these posts and
02:35take them in some ways as marching orders.
02:37Now, we also heard from President Joe Biden at the White House yesterday denouncing this
02:43type of language, as well as criticizing the Supreme Court's decision on immunity.
02:48And he's also made this central to his campaign.
02:50But again, I really do think that all of this is getting heightened attention after that
02:55decision, particularly with many critics worried about whether or not Donald Trump is
02:59emboldened by this decision and may further seek retribution if he is elected.
03:04Sarah, that should be noted.
03:05There are no criminal cases against Joe Biden or Kamala Harris, but he's already talking
03:09about jailing them.
03:10Alarming to say the least.

03:13Appreciate it, John. Let me just ask you, because Donald Trump on his social media over
03:17the last few days posted or reposted something that said that Liz Cheney should be
03:23tried for treason in a televised military tribunal.
03:29Does the Supreme Court ruling, how does that impact how you view that?
03:38Well, it's gotten darker.
03:39I mean, look, you know, every time Donald Trump posts something, everybody's just like,
03:43he's not serious.
03:45Like, first off, do we really want a president who nobody takes seriously?
03:49But like in this, you should.
03:51I mean, here's the reality of it.
03:53He made an accusation at the debate.
03:55And here's kind of a little of my being upset about how the debate went is the one that
03:59should be fact checking Donald Trump was Joe Biden and he didn't.
04:03And one of the things that was said was that the January 6th committee destroyed all the
04:07evidence. It is garbage.
04:09It is on the Internet.
04:11You can Google it and get all the evidence on top of that.
04:14Donald Trump has a defense team.
04:15He can scourge that evidence up.
04:17But what he's doing is creating a dark enemy.
04:20And he's done that in Liz Cheney in January 6th committee to try to bring his base
04:26together. Let me be very clear about something.
04:29If you have an accusation that we deleted something, show us what we deleted.
04:33But you can't. You just make this crazy accusation.
04:36And this is that dark moment we live in.
04:38And yeah, so this made it worse, made it a little worse.
04:42But, you know, we're going to we're going to make sure he doesn't win in November.
