00:00These colossal vessels have formidable firepower and cutting-edge technology.
00:05From aircraft carriers that serve as floating airbases to stealth destroyers equipped with advanced weaponry,
00:10each warship on this list is a testament to the military might that rules the high seas.
00:15Join me for today's video, where counting down the top 15 most powerful warships in the world.
00:19Number 15. The Kongo-Class Destroyer
00:22The Kongo-Class Destroyer hail from Japan, and they are a formidable presence in Japan's naval fleet.
00:27The heart of their power lies in something called the Aegis Combat System.
00:31Now, this technology is American, so the creation of these ships was a collaborative effort between Japan and the United States.
00:37The system allows the ship to detect, track, and engage multiple targets at the same time,
00:42so this powerful ship is a potent defensive asset.
00:45To intercept and decimate ballistic missiles in their mid-course phase, the ship employs the SM-3 Missile Defense System.
00:52Now, they're also equipped with air defense systems and anti-ship missiles.
00:55This class of destroyer has seen their fair share of action.
00:58They've been actively deployed for various missions where they've showcased their reliability and effectiveness.
01:03They were initially built as guided missile destroyers for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, or the JMSDF.
01:09Later, though, they received a significant upgrade.
01:12They were equipped with ballistic missile defense capability.
01:15The lead ship of the class, the JS Kongo, is named after Mt. Kongo, a 3,600-foot mountain in Osaka Prefecture in Japan.
01:22The ship can travel at speeds of 30 knots and can accommodate a crew of around 300.
01:27They've got a length of about 528 feet and a beam of 68 feet, and roughly 7,200 tons of displacement.
01:33These warships were built and designed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and IHI Corporation in Japan,
01:39two companies who are no strangers to warship creation.
01:42Today, this class of destroyer showcased Japan's commitment to procuring a robust naval force.
01:48Number 14. The Kirov-Class Battlecruisers
01:52In the expanse of the world's oceans, there exists a breed of warship that embodies all that is mighty and powerful.
01:59Behold, the Kirov-Class Battlecruisers.
02:01These maritime behemoths cast an imposing silhouette on the water,
02:05and with their unparalleled firepower, they're the epitome of naval supremacy.
02:09They were designed during the heyday of the Soviet era,
02:11and they were designed with one simple purpose in mind, to reign supreme over the seas.
02:16The Soviet Union was determined to assert their dominance in naval warfare,
02:20and hence the Kirov-Class Battlecruisers were born.
02:22Ranging in displacement from approximately 24,000 to 28,000 tons, and stretching about 826 feet in length,
02:29these vessels exude an air of invincibility.
02:32But what makes them true titans of the seas is not just their size, it's their arsenal.
02:37They're armed to the hilt with an array of missile systems, including surface-to-air and anti-ship missiles.
02:42These cruisers could obliterate targets from really far distances.
02:46They are fast, too, with a nuclear propulsion system.
02:49When traveling at full speed, these warships cruised around 30 knots.
02:53The class also served as flagships, and they sailed the seas with unwavering authority.
02:58Historically, they played a role in the Cold War by prowling the waters and reminding all of the Soviets' dominance.
03:04They instilled both respect and fear among adversaries, a silent but potent force on the water.
03:10As guardians of the Russian fleet, the Kirov-Class defined power.
03:13And although they're a little on the old side today, they still stand sentinel in the Russian Navy fleet.
03:19They maintain a presence in some vital regions, still projecting power.
03:23Majestic and massive, these warships continue to inspire admiration, awe,
03:27and a feeling of foreboding with their ominous presence at sea.
03:35Although we have some pretty impressive and powerful warships sailing the seas today,
03:39the past has brought us some equally powerful ships.
03:42And while technology continues to improve the capabilities of warships,
03:46when it comes to sheer power, well, the warships of World War II deserve a shout-out.
03:51One of the most powerful and iconic ships of that time is the USS Iowa.
03:55This historic warship was revered for its power, and even though it's not in service anymore,
04:00it hasn't lost its place amongst the greatest and strongest ships of all time.
04:04The ship belonged to the Iowa class of battleships,
04:06a class of ships known for their unparalleled firepower in the roles they played during World War II.
04:12The USS Iowa was commissioned in 1943,
04:14and upon completion, this warship was one of the most powerful battleships of its time.
04:18With a displacement of around 45,000 tons, a length of 887 feet, and a beam of about 108 feet,
04:25the USS Iowa was a powerhouse of the seas.
04:28It was propelled by four steam turbines that generated over 212 shaft horsepower.
04:33And all the Iowa-class battleships were capable of reaching speeds in excess of 30 knots.
04:38It was armed with nine 16-inch main guns in three turrets,
04:42and as a battleship, it also carried a wide array of secondary armament,
04:45like anti-aircraft guns and torpedo tubes.
04:48What makes the USS Iowa so iconic, though, along with its power,
04:51was the ship's involvement during several significant operations during World War II.
04:56The ship provided gunfire support during amphibious landings in the Pacific,
05:00but one of the most notable moments in the ship's history
05:02was when it served as the flagship for President Franklin D. Roosevelt
05:06during the Tehran Conference in 1943.
05:08Unlike a lot of other World War II ships, though, the USS Iowa continued to serve past the war.
05:13The ship was in active duty during the Korean War,
05:16and later it served as a vessel for training exercises.
05:19Today, the USS Iowa is a museum ship.
05:21It's located in Los Angeles, California, in the United States,
05:24and is part of the Pacific Battleship Center.
05:27As a floating museum, the ship welcomes visitors aboard
05:29to explore its decks and learn about its history
05:32and involvement in various historical conflicts.
05:39Naval innovation and firepower.
05:41These two words best describe this powerful Horizon-class destroyer.
05:45As a joint project between Italy's Fincantieri and France's Naval Group,
05:50the Horizon-class destroyer showcased the best that both countries have to offer
05:54in all things warship.
05:56As far as specs go, the Horizon-class destroyers are 501 feet long
06:00with a 67-foot beam and a displacement of around 7,000 tons.
06:04They're using a combined diesel, electric, and gas propulsion system
06:08that allows them to reach speeds in excess of 29 knots.
06:11The destroyers can typically accommodate a crew of around 210 personnel.
06:15And when it comes to armament, these destroyers are equipped to do just that.
06:19Destroy.
06:20They feature the Principal Anti-Air Missile Systems, or PAMs for short.
06:24This system allows the ships to intercept multiple aerial threats simultaneously.
06:29And they also feature Aster Anti-Air Missiles and Anti-Ship Missiles,
06:32torpedoes, and a whole whack of other weaponry.
06:35And to reduce that pesky radar cross-section, the ships got stealth technology.
06:39As mentioned, both France and Italy collaborated on the creation of these warships,
06:43and as such, there are variations between the two.
06:46Although they all share the same common core design,
06:48the variations reflect the specific requirements of each nation.
06:52Needless to say, a project of this magnitude didn't come easy.
06:55It faced its fair share of challenges and setbacks, including delays and cost overruns.
06:59In the end, though, the project was successful.
07:01And today, the Horizon-class destroyers are known for their sleek, modern design,
07:05as well as their advanced capability.
07:12If you're looking for a powerful yet versatile warship,
07:15then look no further than our friend, the Mistral-class Amphibious Assault Ship.
07:19Just like amphibious creatures, frogs, toads, and salamanders,
07:22this Mistral-class Amphibious Assault Ship is designed to do both land and water things.
07:28It is a multi-purpose vehicle with a plethora of roles that really shines during the amphibious operations.
07:33Well, what are amphibious operations, you ask?
07:35Well, in a nutshell, amphibious operations are a military maneuver or mission
07:39that involve the coordinated movement of armed forces from sea to land.
07:44Just like frogs, amphibious operations hop from water to solid ground.
07:48They often involve ship-to-shore movement of troops, equipment, and supplies,
07:51and they can vary vastly in their complexity.
07:54For example, the Mistral-class Amphibious Assault Ship
07:56is often tasked with carrying troops and vehicles to amphibious operations.
08:01It can also function as a helicopter carrier,
08:03as it can accommodate several helicopters for a wide variety of missions,
08:07including reconnaissance, support missions, search and rescue, or aerial assault.
08:11The ship even features a well deck,
08:12so it can deploy vehicles and landing crafts swiftly when needed.
08:16Additionally, the warship exhibits modularity,
08:19so with a few changes in configuration,
08:21the ship's able to adapt to the requirements of whatever mission it's being sent on.
08:25Because these ships are so versatile,
08:27they've been used in a wide range of humanitarian efforts
08:30by evacuating people and delivering aid to natural disasters.
08:33They also house joint military exercises and training programs for naval forces.
08:37The platform also has a combined diesel, electric, and gas propulsion system,
08:41a displacement of roughly 21,000 tons and a length of 653 feet.
08:46They're not the fastest warship out there,
08:48traveling at a top speed of roughly 18 knots,
08:50but they weren't designed for speed.
08:52This Mistral-class originally belonged to France,
08:54but they've been exported to several countries around the world,
08:57which highlights their global naval appeal.
09:04It may seem a bit egotistical to name your fleet of destroyers great,
09:09but that's exactly what South Korea has done with their Sejong the Great-class destroyers.
09:14Now, in all fairness, though, these warships are pretty great.
09:18They're actually named after the illustrious King Sejong the Great,
09:21and these powerful warships employ some pretty impressive cutting-edge tech.
09:25These Titan destroyers weigh in at around 11,000 tons
09:29and stretch approximately 541 feet in length.
09:32But aside from their impressive specs,
09:34these destroyers are technological powerhouses.
09:37Their design is a product of South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries
09:40and Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering,
09:42and they truly embody South Korea's prowess in naval engineering.
09:46With a propulsion system that combines gas turbines,
09:49these ships cruise across the waves at speeds surpassing 30 knots,
09:52a speed which leaves many other ships in their wake.
09:55They're also equipped with an array of sophisticated radar and missile systems,
09:59including anti-ship, anti-aircraft, and anti-submarine weaponry.
10:02This gives them the ability to tackle pretty much any challenge that dares come their way.
10:06But what truly sets apart the Sejong the Great-class destroyers is their adaptability.
10:11They're designed to dominate in air defense, anti-ship, and anti-submarine missions,
10:15and their state-of-the-art sensors make them a true boss when it comes to situational awareness.
10:20Much like the monarch that they were named for,
10:22King Sejong the Great was known for being a visionary
10:24and an avid contributor to the realms of science, technology, and culture,
10:27these ships are innovative and progressive.
10:30In fact, the Sejong the Great-class stand at the forefront of technological advancement.
10:34They've made their presence known not just in the Asia-Pacific region, but also globally.
10:38They've earned recognition from all over the world for their power, sophistication, and adaptability.
10:48Picture this, a massive destroyer that weighs in at around 9,200 tons
10:52and stretches a whopping 508 feet in length.
10:55Engineered with four General Electric gas turbines
10:58and generating over 100,000 total shaft horsepower,
11:02just imagine what this destroyer would look like as it zips through the waves.
11:06Well, luckily you don't have to use your imagination,
11:08because here comes the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer,
11:11a powerful warship that sits amongst some of the best destroyers in the world.
11:15Armament? You bet.
11:16These destroyers come armed with the Aegis Combat System,
11:19Vertical Launch System, Tomahawk missiles,
11:21and a stash of anti-submarine warfare systems.
11:24Is a sub lurking in the depths of the ocean?
11:26Not a problem.
11:27An aerial assault from above?
11:29This ship's got it covered.
11:30Surface warfare? Check.
11:32Whether it be in the air, on the surface, and deep in the water,
11:35the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers can take it on.
11:37And thanks to the Aegis Combat System, they can do it all simultaneously.
11:41Furthermore, they're equipped with the SPY-1 radar,
11:44so they've pretty much got eyes everywhere.
11:46No adversary is going to slip by unnoticed.
11:48Ballistic missile defense, anti-sub operations, anti-air warfare,
11:52these destroyers aren't picky,
11:54which is why they've become a real go-to for Navy experts.
11:57And speaking of Navy experts, the ship are named after one.
12:00Admiral Arleigh Burke was known for his leadership
12:02and game-changing contributions,
12:04and these ships live up to their namesake.
12:06They refuse to become stagnant.
12:08Continuous modernization keeps these destroyers ahead of the curve
12:11in naval capabilities.
12:13They also refuse to be confined to U.S. waters.
12:15This class of destroyer is also known for globetrotting,
12:18where they conduct maritime security operations
12:20and protect vital sea lines.
12:22Needless to say, these powerful warships set the bar pretty high
12:25when it comes to yielding power and advanced technology,
12:28which is why they're not just warships.
12:30They're symbols of naval superiority.
12:33Number 8. The Type 055 Destroyer
12:36The Type 055 Destroyer,
12:38or the Renhai-class guided-missile destroyer,
12:41as it's also known, is a modern warship.
12:43It was developed by China's People's Liberation Army Navy, or PLAN,
12:47and it's recognized for its advanced capability.
12:50With a displacement of between 13,000 and 14,000 tons,
12:53depending on the specific ship,
12:55a length of roughly 590 feet,
12:57and a combined gas turbine and electric propulsion system,
13:00you better believe the Type 055 Destroyer
13:02is one of the most powerful warships.
13:04The ship can travel at speeds exceeding 30 knots
13:07and can welcome upwards of 350 sailors on board.
13:10As for armament, the destroyer is equipped with land attack missiles,
13:13anti-air and anti-ship missiles,
13:15and advanced radar systems.
13:17In fact, this ship showcases the technological advancements
13:20of China's naval engineering, and is revered worldwide as such.
13:24It's got some pretty cool tech, which it brags about to other ships.
13:27For example, the ships have sophisticated radar systems
13:30known as the Type 346B Active Phased Radar Array, or APAR.
13:35Because the ship is tasked with missile defense,
13:37this radar offers enhanced detection.
13:40Now, their extensive arsenal, as well as its robust offensive
13:43and defensive capabilities, have made it a true force to be reckoned with.
13:46The ship is designed for multi-mission roles,
13:49so it can be sent on air defense missions,
13:51shipped out for some surface warfare,
13:53or employed to do a little anti-submarine operation.
13:56China's been ambitious in their modernization efforts,
13:58and they've advanced rapidly in naval technology,
14:01as the Type 055 Destroyer clearly shows.
14:04This warship's been deployed in numerous operations,
14:07and now stands as a symbol of China's quest for maritime dominance.
14:11Moving on to number seven, the Admiral Gorshkov-class frigates.
14:15If we're taking a look at the grand theater of maritime might,
14:18then I would be amiss if I didn't take a close look
14:20at the Admiral Gorshkov-class frigates.
14:23If you're not familiar with this wonderful world of frigates,
14:26don't worry, I'll get you covered.
14:27Frigates are a type of warship that falls between larger destroyers
14:30and smaller corvettes in terms of size, role, and capability.
14:34They're known for their good speed and maneuverability.
14:36They can easily navigate both coastal waters and open seas,
14:39so they're pretty versatile.
14:41They take on a wide variety of roles,
14:42and can often be seen escorting and protecting larger ships,
14:45sort of like a warship sidekick.
14:47They conduct anti-submarine warfare, support maritime security and patrols,
14:52and provide humanitarian aid during crisis.
14:54They're also in the anti-piracy business,
14:56so they're a far cry from a one-trick pony.
14:59Now, when it comes to powerful frigates,
15:01the Admiral Gorshkov-class features some of the best frigates around.
15:04They stand tall as exemplary symbols of Russia's cutting-edge naval prowess.
15:08Part ship, part floating fortress,
15:11they have everything that a truly powerful warship needs to succeed.
15:14They've got a displacement of around 54 to 5,600 tons,
15:18and they stretch about 426 feet in length and 52 feet in beam.
15:22They're powered by a combined gas turbine and diesel system,
15:25which allows them to rip across the waves at about 20 knots.
15:28They can accommodate around 210 people on their high-tech deck,
15:31but what really sets these frigates apart is their sleek stealth features.
15:35They utilize state-of-the-art stealth technology,
15:37which allows them to minimize their radar signature
15:39and enhance their survivability, making them less detectable.
15:42And with their wide array of missiles,
15:44this class of frigates pack a punch in both defense and offense.
15:48But let's talk a little tech now,
15:49since that's what these frigates are really known for.
15:52They've got top-of-the-line electronic warfare systems, radar, and weaponry,
15:56and as such, the prowess of these frigates is not limited to Russia's borders alone.
16:00In fact, several of these class frigates have been exported.
16:03India has acquired multiple vessels,
16:05which proves that these frigates have international appeal.
16:10Number six, the Akizuki-class destroyer.
16:13The Akizuki-class destroyers are known for their sophistication.
16:17Now, not to be confused with the class of destroyers with the same name from World War II,
16:21these new and improved Akizukis are everything a destroyer should be.
16:25Boasting a modern design and advanced capability,
16:27these ships operate within the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
16:31They're roughly 495 feet long and weigh around 6,800 tons.
16:35Now, like all destroyers, the Akizuki-class destroyer has a lot of weaponry,
16:39but most notable, they're equipped with the SM-2 and ESSM missiles.
16:43This ensures that they can keep up a good defense against aerial threats.
16:46These destroyers are named after Mount Akizuki in the Hiroshima Prefecture.
16:50This follows the JMSDF's tradition of naming its destroyers after mountains,
16:54which is a nod to Japanese heritage.
16:56The Akizuki-class of destroyers are used to escort the Hyuga-class and Izumo-class helicopter destroyers.
17:02They also safeguard the other Aegis-capable warships like the Kongo and the Otago-class.
17:07The hull structure for this protective and menacing destroyer
17:10was based on the hull from the Takanami-class destroyer.
17:13Of course, the design was improved upon.
17:15For example, the Akizuki-class features cleaner lines to reduce the radar signature
17:19and decoys for torpedoes.
17:21They also have more powerful engines and better sonar.
17:24This class destroyer was designed by Japan's Maritime Staff Office, or MSO,
17:28and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
17:30The design work for these ships started in the early 2000s.
17:33The last ship of the class, the JS Wakaba, was laid down in 2010 and launched in 2013.
17:38And while the destroyers were built to provide Japan with a formidable fleet of powerful warships,
17:43they were also constructed in part to modernize Japan's naval fleet.
17:47One look at these ships, and suffice it to say, objectives met.
17:55So, we're heading down under now to take a look at Australia's Hobart-class destroyer.
17:59They're often called the pride and joy of the Royal Australian Navy.
18:03These high-tech juggernauts aren't your everyday ship.
18:06They've got a displacement of around 7,000 tons.
18:08As for length, they measure in at about 479 feet long with a beam of about 59 feet.
18:13The Aegis Combat System is their secret weapon,
18:16allowing them to detect and swat down aerial threats and missiles like a seafaring ninja.
18:21They are designed for multi-mission excellence, and they don't disappoint.
18:25But beyond their high-tech magic, these destroyers serve a very important purpose.
18:29They are Australia's maritime defenders.
18:31They add muscle to regional security in the Indo-Pacific region
18:35and work to safeguard Australia's maritime interests.
18:38And as true Australian ships, these destroyers proudly incorporate indigenous Australian technology,
18:44like the Nuka active missile decoy system, for example.
18:47Nuka is a sophisticated defense system that was developed collaboratively by Australia and the United States.
18:53It acts as a ship protection system against anti-ship missiles.
18:57By integrating this system into the Hobart-class,
18:59Australia showcases its emphasis on incorporating homegrown tech into its defense systems.
19:05Furthermore, the Hobart-class destroyers are equipped with a powerful radar system
19:08known as the CIFAR phased array radar.
19:11It's cutting-edge radar tech that provides exceptional surveillance and tracking capability,
19:15so these ships can easily track multiple targets in the air and on the surface of the water with great precision.
19:21And the destroyers are named after the city of Hobart.
19:23Australia's got a tradition of naming destroyers after Australian capital cities,
19:27so these ships proudly carry on that tradition.
19:35Designed for near-shore operations,
19:37the Independence-class littoral combat ships are like the chameleon of the sea.
19:42How so?
19:43Well, they can change their look and function in a snap, depending on what's needed from them.
19:47Weighing in at 3,000 tons, these versatile warships are around 416 feet long.
19:52Like many of the world's most powerful ships,
19:54they utilize a combined diesel and gas turbine system,
19:57allowing them to make their way across the water at speeds of over 40 knots.
20:01These ships belong to the United States Navy,
20:03and they came to fruition when the Navy saw a need for a fleet of smaller, agile ships
20:08to operate near shore in the littoral zone.
20:10For those of you who are not well-versed with Navy-speak,
20:13the littoral zone refers to an area within a certain distance of shore
20:17where ships do stuff like surveillance, mine clearing,
20:20and support for landing operations and other types of combat shifting from water to ground.
20:25Construction of these ships began in the early 2000s,
20:27and the fleet served its purpose well.
20:29But the really fascinating component of these ships is their modular design,
20:33sort of like giant Lego blocks.
20:35These ships are built with a modular mission package system,
20:38and this means they can quickly change their roles to suit different needs,
20:41including mine countermeasures, anti-submarine warfare, and surface warfare.
20:45And because they're modular, they're a very cost-effective solution for littoral warfare.
20:50They offer versatility without breaking the bank.
20:56Ah, the Sea Hunter.
20:57It might not be the biggest ship on this list,
20:59but its power comes from its potential to change the future of naval warfare.
21:03How so?
21:04Well, the Sea Hunter is an autonomous, unmanned surface vehicle,
21:08and its futuristic design is a game-changer in maritime operations.
21:12The Sea Hunter was designed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency,
21:16or DARPA for short,
21:17as part of the Anti-Submarine Warfare Continuous Trail Unmanned Vessel Program.
21:22The vessel first launched in 2016,
21:24and the ship has been making waves in the warship world ever since.
21:28Sea Hunter weighs approximately 145 tons
21:31and stretches about 131 feet in length and 29.5 feet in beam.
21:35This ship operates on a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system,
21:39and it's capable of reaching speeds that exceed 27 knots without a crew.
21:43Now, needless to say, Sea Hunter is not your average ship.
21:46The ship has top-notch sensors, radar, and a long list of other high-tech gear,
21:50all designed for autonomous navigations and surveillance.
21:53The ship is built for extended missions at sea,
21:55and since it doesn't require a crew, the ship can just keep going and going.

22:02using its fancy AI and sensor systems,
22:04it can do exactly what the name suggests,
22:07hunt the seas tirelessly for long periods of time.
22:10And because the ship can operate unmanned,
22:12it reduces the human risk in operations,
22:14which is why the Sea Hunter has been called a harbinger of a new era in naval technology.
22:19Relentless with reduced risk as far as operating crew is concerned,
22:22Sea Hunter is a powerful warship that's paving the way for a future
22:26where unmanned vessels rule the seas.
22:30Number 2. The Bismarck
22:32Alright, taking a brief dip into the past with this next entry,
22:35as we turn our attention to one of the most historically renowned
22:39and powerful warships of all time, the Bismarck.
22:43The Bismarck was a German battleship that sailed the seas during World War II.
22:47The ship launched in 1939 and quickly became a symbol of German naval power,
22:52as well as one of the largest battleships ever built by Germany.
22:55It was known for its impressive firepower, robust armor, and advanced technology for its time.
23:00It was armed with eight 15-inch guns and four twin turrets.
23:04This powerful beast of a ship could unleash devastating broadsides against enemy vessels.
23:08And when it was under attack, it relied on its exceptionally thick armor to provide formidable protection.
23:14It had a reputation for engaging in daring and dramatic naval battles.
23:18In May 1941, during its maiden voyage,
23:21the Bismarck engaged in a fierce battle with the British Royal Navy's Hood and Prince of Wales.
23:26During this battle, the Bismarck's guns proved devastating.
23:29It sunk the Hood with a single fatal hit.
23:32This led to Hood's explosion and loss of nearly all the crew members.
23:35From there, the British Navy became determined to sink this mighty ship.
23:39And the Bismarck's subsequent pursuit by the British Navy
23:42became one of the most significant naval chases in history.
23:45She put up a valiant fight, even though the odds were overwhelming against her.
23:49After a sustained attack by British ships and aircraft,
23:52the Bismarck was sunk on May 27, 1941.
23:55She had some pretty impressive specs, even by today's standards.
23:59Her displacement was about 50,000 tons fully loaded,
24:02and she was around 823 feet long.
24:04The propulsion consisted of three Blumenfoss-geared steam turbines
24:08and twelve Wagner boilers, allowing this behemoth to reach speeds of up to 30 knots.
24:13She used her twelve 5.9-inch guns and six twin turrets for anti-aircraft defense,
24:18as well as her sixteen 4.1-inch aircraft guns.
24:21She was also equipped with several smaller caliber anti-aircraft guns and anti-aircraft artillery.
24:26Now, for defense, she was heavily armored.
24:29She had up to 14 inches of steel plating on her main belt,
24:32so the Bismarck was not an easy ship to take down.
24:35And she could accommodate a lot of personnel, around 2,500 to be exact,
24:39which speaks to just how big this ship really was.
24:42She was capable of long-range operations with a range of about 8,500 nautical miles
24:47at about 19 knots.
24:49Her lethal combination of firepower, speed, and armor
24:52made her a significant and widely feared threat to enemy naval forces.
24:56The historical battles this ship was involved in are all still studied today,
25:00as this powerful warship had a significant impact on the war.
25:03As such, even though she rests in a watery grave, the legacy of the Bismarck lives.
25:08To this day, the behemoth Bismarck remains an iconic symbol of naval power.
25:14Number 1. The USS Zumwalt
25:17The USS Zumwalt is what other warships aspire to be.
25:21Massive, sleek, and oh, so powerful.
25:24When this ship cruises by, the other ships shudder in its wake.
25:27The Zumwalt is easily recognizable for its futuristic appearance.
25:31Its angular shape and stealth features set it apart from traditional naval vessels.
25:36Truly, the USS Zumwalt is an exceptional destroyer,
25:39and it's a beast of a ship that belongs to the United States Navy.
25:42It was designed to revolutionize naval warfare
25:44through its cutting-edge technology and innovative features.
25:47She's got a displacement of approximately 15,000 tons.
25:50It's 610 feet long and features an integrated electric propulsion system
25:54powered by gas turbines and electric drives.
25:57The Zumwalt can travel at speeds of 30 knots
25:59and can accommodate a crew of about 140 sailors.
26:02It's equipped with some pretty powerful armaments, too.
26:05Its Advanced Gun System, or AGS, with long-range precision projectiles
26:09can strike targets up to 80 nautical miles away with precision.
26:13It also has got a Vertical Launch System, or VLS, for various missiles
26:16and anti-submarine warfare capability.
26:19The USS Zumwalt was designed by the United States Navy
26:21and built by General Dynamics Bath Iron Works.
26:24To make it harder to detect, the ship has a composite deckhouse
26:27that reduces its radar cross-section.
26:29It also has a wave-piercing tumblehome hull.
26:32Now, this ship is designed for a variety of missions,
26:35including land attack, littoral dominance, and anti-ship and anti-warfare.
26:39The ship was named after Admiral Elmo Zumwalt,
26:41who was the youngest chief of naval operations and a reformer in the U.S. Navy.
26:45Originally, there were supposed to be 32 of these bad boys built,
26:48but due to budget constraints, only three were finished.
26:51The USS Zumwalt is the lead ship of its class,
26:53and it represents a significant leap in naval technology and capability.
26:57It also represents the best of the best when it comes to power,
27:00which is why the USS Zumwalt has warred its way into the top spot on this list
27:04of the Top 15 Most Powerful Warships.
