00:52Chinese ships attempted to block the Philippine Coast Guard's rescue mission of a Filipino
00:56fishing boat on Saturday, June 29.
00:59The PCG was responding to an incident in waters near Bajo de Macinloc after Filipino fishing
01:04boat Akio's engine exploded, leaving two injured.
01:08Bajo de Macinloc is a traditional fishing ground for fisherfolk from the Philippines,
01:12China and Vietnam.
01:13PCG spokesman for National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea, Commodore J. Tariella
01:19says, the PCG was able to outmaneuver China's rigid-hull inflatable boats meant to, quote,
01:24obstruct and hinder efforts in rescuing the fishermen.
01:27PCG spokesman Rear Admiral Armand Balilio says, China issued radio challenges, shadowed
01:33and blocked Philippine vessels, before eventually helping in the rescue operations.
01:38The PCG says it provided medical assistance to two fishermen who suffered second-degree
01:42burns and gave food and medical aid to all eight on board.
01:48The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, or PAGCOR, says a former cabinet official
01:53tried to facilitate the grant of gaming licenses to some Philippine offshore gaming operators
01:58or POGOs that were later raided by the authorities.
02:01PAGCOR chief Alejandro Tenko will reportedly reveal the person's identity in the proper
02:06forum.
02:07No other details were given.
02:09PAGCOR has a mandate of ensuring only those with valid licenses are allowed to operate
02:13in gambling or gaming activities.
02:16Tenko says that during his agency's cleansing process, most POGOs were found to be ineligible
02:21and outright suspicious.
02:23POGOs thrived under the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, who cited
02:27the supposed economic benefits of POGOs.
02:30The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission, or PAOC, points to lazy regulation as a key
02:35factor in the proliferation of illegal POGOs.
02:38Human trafficking, kidnapping, murder, torture, scams and prostitution have been linked to
02:44POGOs.
02:47President Sara Duterte says her office didn't request confidential funds from the 2025 national
02:52budget
02:53Duterte was under fire over the confidential funds issue, especially after it was learned
02:58that the Office of the President transferred the P125 million pesos in confidential funds
03:03to the OVP in 2022.
03:06Duterte had requested for P500 million pesos in confidential funds for the OVP in 2024
03:12but dropped her bid amid public outrage.
03:14Meantime, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. admits he's having a difficult time choosing the
03:19next Department of Education secretary given the demands of the job and the valid concerns
03:24of stakeholders.
03:25The position was vacated by Duterte just the past week.
03:29Two days earlier, Marcos told the media he would announce his new education chief by
03:33the weekend.
03:35Marcos backtracked, saying,
03:36It turns out it's harder than I thought because we absolutely have to get it right.
03:41So I'm giving myself more time.
03:45Wired reports Russia-affiliated disinformation network Doppelganger spread an anti-Biden
03:50video on X with the aid of generative AI.
03:53The Bye Bye Biden video parodies US presidential candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
03:59It depicts Biden as a senile old man who rides wheelchairs, wears diapers, and can't steer
04:04a bicycle.
04:05The video also parrots false allegations that Trump's votes in the 2020 elections were stolen
04:10and paints Biden as a corrupt politician.
04:13An actor plays the role of the two whose features were made to look like the rival's using AI.
04:19Analysis by anti-bot for Navalny reveals the video reached 6.5 million users and was seen
04:24by 5 million.
04:26The group also finds 4,000 posts promoting the video using a network of 25,000 X accounts.
04:32Wired writes,
04:33As the Kremlin ramps up efforts to undermine the U.S. election in November, it is clear
04:37that Russia is willing to utilize AI technologies.
04:43France's far-right National Rally, or RN Party, wins the first round of parliamentary elections
04:48on Sunday, June 30.
04:50Exit posts show the RN won around 34% of the vote, left-wing New Popular Front Alliance
04:56won 29%, while President Emmanuel Macron's Together Alliance won only about 20% of the
05:01vote.
05:02This is a huge setback for Macron, who called a snap election after his ticket lost to the
05:07RN in the European Parliament elections in early June.
05:11The RN is now closer to power than it's ever been as its leader, Marine Le Pen, has sought
05:16to clean up the image of a party known for racism and anti-Semitism, a tactic that has
05:20worked amid voter anger at Macron, the high cost of living, and growing immigration concerns.
05:26The second round of the elections will be held on July 7, which will determine the party
05:30that will control France's parliament.
05:34Karla Abellana confirms the Philippine court now recognizes her divorce from ex-husband
05:39Tom Rodriguez.
05:40In an interview with Boy Abunda, Karla says,
05:43Tom, who is a U.S. citizen, flew to the United States in June 2022 to obtain a divorce decree.
05:54But the ex-couple had to file for recognition for foreign divorce in a Philippine court
05:58for the dissolution of their marriage to take effect in the Philippines.
06:02Karla says she hasn't spoken with Tom since 2022, adding she'd prefer to keep it that
06:07way.
06:08In June 2022, Karla opened up about her relationship with Tom, saying she'd been hurt and betrayed,
06:14She says she is no longer angry at Tom and has forgiven him.
06:18Karla and Tom were married in October 2021 after dating for seven years.
06:24Kris Aquino talks about her split with Batangas Vice Governor Mark Leviste and confirms she
06:29is dating someone new.
06:31In an interview with OG Diaz, Kris reveals she is dating a doctor based in Makati but
06:35declines to give additional details.
06:38She says dating the doctor is easier because, quote, he understands what I'm going through.
06:43Kris also emphasizes the importance of her son's opinions on her relationships, disclosing
06:48her youngest son, Bimby, and her ex-boyfriend did not get along that well.
06:53In the vlog, Kris also shares that she might have the ghost signal to return to the Philippines
06:57if the results of her upcoming tests are clear, saying, quote, hopefully I'll be back before
07:02Christmas.
07:03Since 2018, Kris has been battling a number of autoimmune diseases.
07:07She went to the US to receive treatment in June 2022 and has been there since.
07:14And that's today's wrap.
