Bungaree coach Ryan Waight talks about Demons' win over Daylesford and how the rest of the season looks.

00:00It was a bit of a slog wasn't it? I looked at the forecast probably Thursday and it was
00:06exciting in a way that we get to play in the wet but disappointed in a sense that it wasn't
00:10going to be the high quality game that it could have been. It was about who took their
00:15chances, who won the contest, who won those one-on-one battles, who won the territory
00:19battle, all those cliches when it comes to wet weather. But we managed to hang on in
00:23the end. I think it was a couple of goals, they keep a couple of points. We missed a
00:27couple of opportunities ourselves inside 50. So we'll bank the four points and move
00:31on.
00:32Probably clutch moments weren't there early in the game. James Lukic, he takes his opportunities,
00:38a couple of quick goals and that three goal burst by John Butler, that probably broke
00:44the game open when you look back on it because after that, third quarter, no goals, last
00:48quarter goals hard to come by and that little period that he got on the end of some really
00:55nice forward work made all the difference when you look back on the game.
00:59Yeah, I knew the ground would deteriorate as the game went on. So it hit the scoreboard
01:03early and the first quarter was a bit of a tight contest and then we got on top of them
01:08back into that second quarter. John Butler hasn't really played a lot of footy. He missed
01:13a chunk of time with a hamstring and then he got concussed for two weeks. He's a player
01:19that doesn't need a heap of the footy but he can hit the scoreboard. I know you keep
01:23telling me to play him forward. I think, as I said, it's just a matter of luck these
01:28days and I'm not talking out of school here. When you get inside 50, you've just got to
01:32hit the scoreboard.
01:33Take your chance. You've been wrapped with your defensive work. I mean, talk about players
01:35coming back. Ben Simpson, just one of a good combination down there but his intercept mark,
01:41again, you can just see what a difference he makes.
01:45He does. Look, every team's got some injuries at this point of the season. Everyone's going
01:50to have their go. It's probably the back line that we've been hurt with the most. It's
01:54good to get the crew back together back there. They're a good bunch of fellas. They're really
02:00tight bunch of guys. Obviously, MC Mo, he's obviously a class player. People know that.
02:07Just having him back there and back into the sides is a bonus.
02:11Back on top. I know that's not a focus. Top four is what it's all about for you but this
02:15does set up the end of the season pretty nicely now. Job's not done yet but you go to the
02:21second competition break. On top of the ladder, game clear in that sense. I mean, you couldn't
02:28hope to be in a better spot right now.
02:30I'm a coach so I always worry but look, every four points is handy, isn't it, when you're
02:37working towards qualifying for the finals. That's all we're doing at the moment. That's
02:41all every team is doing is trying to qualify as high as they can to get to the second break
02:46where we are in a pretty good spot but not resting our laurels. We'll train well this
02:52week. Obviously, we had a few byes in the last few weeks so we'll train this week, train
02:55next week and then we're into Bunion after the break.
