00:00I had three months left to live.
00:03I'm a brain cancer survivor who's still here
00:05and I think that's really amazing to talk about more,
00:11to get out there more.
00:13My name's Beth and I was 19 when I was first diagnosed with astrocytoma.
00:33It's a subtype of a glioma which is the most commonly diagnosed form of brain cancer.
00:40At the time, I was told it meant that I had three months left to live
00:45and I was told that it would most likely be in hospital.
00:48At 19, I was at the point in my life where I was about to go on an overseas trip
00:54to Madrid, France.
00:56I was meant to be going overseas and really living my life, you know?
01:02I was doing things that were exciting me.
01:04There's nothing out there that is talking you through the positivity
01:09that comes with a brain cancer diagnosis.
01:12There is so much advocacy, peer support.
01:15There's your voice.
01:17My degree in social work and also my diagnosis,
01:23which came about really around the same time,
01:27has led me full circle back to where I am now
01:30and why I'm so passionate about advocacy.
01:33When Rowan came into my life, he really embraced me having brain cancer.
01:39He never was overwhelmed by the reality of what I was facing.
01:46And in the five years that I've known him,
01:48he's meant so much to every single part of my life
01:52that I really didn't think that I was going to look forward to.
