00:00Two PKR leaders have rejected a claim that Dr Mahathir Mohamad was wary of internal plots

00:08to remove him as head of the Pakatan Harapan government.

00:12The two former deputy ministers said there was a clear understanding that Mahathir was

00:16to hand the reins to Anwar Ibrahim, but he reneged on the deal.

00:23R Sivarasa told FMT that had Mahathir handed over the prime ministership, the PH government

00:28would have been stable and intact with Anwar as the prime minister.

00:34The PH government collapsed after 20 months when Mahathir resigned, leading to a new government

00:40formed by Barsatu Baresan National and a PKR faction led by Azmin Ali.

00:46Azmin was said to be the only PKR minister solidly behind Mahathir, according to former

00:52political consultant Roman Bose in his new book Shattered Hopes.

00:57The book's revelation showed Mahathir's fixation on power, despite his pre-election promise

01:02to transfer power, said Dr Lee Boon Chai, another former deputy minister from PKR.

01:09PKR Deputy Information Chief Razif Raqimin said that the party was established to fight

01:15against Mahathir's oppressive regime, but it was willing to cooperate with Mahathir

01:20and forget 20 years of feud for the sake of the people.

01:25However, he said Mahathir, with his usual behaviour, is a dictator with an iron fist,

01:31and the former prime minister merely took advantage of public sentiment to seize power

01:36and prevent Anwar from assuming leadership.
