00:00The tragic death of Matthew Perry may soon result in criminal charges, but against who?
00:06Perry was unexpectedly found dead in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home in October 2023.
00:11Six weeks after his death, it was revealed that his cause of death involved the acute
00:15effects of ketamine.
00:17Since then, authorities have been investigating the circumstances of his death in what's reportedly
00:21become a criminal investigation.
00:24That process has included speaking to those who were close to Perry to try and determine
00:27How and why the Friends star ended up in possession of the ketamine that caused his death.
00:32As a source told InTouch Weekly in June 2024, they have basically been on the hunt for Matthew's
00:37killer.
00:38One of the people who has been questioned, according to InTouch Weekly, is Brooke Mueller,
00:42actress, ex-wife of Charlie Sheen, and friend of Matthew Perry.
00:45And it's not just questioning.
00:46According to reports, a phone and laptop belonging to Mueller were also seized by the police.
00:51Despite this, she has not been detained, arrested, or charged with any wrongdoing in connection
00:56to Perry's death.
00:57The Los Angeles Police Department has reportedly talked to Brooke Mueller a number of times,
01:01and she has been cooperating with their investigation.
01:03She's also retained attorneys to represent her and denied any involvement in Perry's
01:07death.
01:08How did Perry and Mueller come to know each other?
01:10Reportedly, the two met as a result of their shared struggles with substance abuse, becoming
01:14friends at some point while they were in rehab together.
01:16It's the people in the rehab that are my people, and I'm lucky to have them.
01:22Both actors publicly struggled with substance use problems over the years.
01:25In the last years of his life, Perry had been open with his struggles with addiction
01:29that extended back to his time on Friends.
01:31In his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, Perry revealed the literal
01:36cost of his addiction, saying,
01:37"...I've probably spent $9 million or something trying to get sober."
01:41Mueller has also spent time in sober living facilities and rehab over the years, and was
01:46reportedly staying at one in May when police executed the search warrant that seized her
01:50phone and laptop.
01:51The questioning of Mueller comes at a tense time in the investigation into Perry's death.
01:56The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner closed its investigation into the actor's death in
02:002023, determining it was accidental.
02:03But shortly after, the LAPD began their own investigation into how Perry had come into
02:07possession of the ketamine that killed him.
02:09And the investigation isn't just confined to Los Angeles.
02:13According to People, the LAPD has been working in conjunction with federal authorities, in
02:17both the Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Postal Inspectors.
02:21The theory here is that someone mailed these drugs to Matthew Perry."
02:27According to the publication's law enforcement source, that investigation is nearing its
02:31conclusion, as police suggest that multiple people should be charged in connection with
02:35Perry's death.
02:36Could Mueller be one of those people?
02:38Neither her reps nor police have said so.
02:41A source close to Mueller's camp told In Touch,
02:43"...she has had multiple meetings with law enforcement since they arrived at her sober
02:46living house with a search warrant.
02:48She's being tight-lipped about the situation.
02:51It's tough to say or know exactly what her role is in Matthew's death, but she's adamant
02:55she had nothing to do with that."
02:57One person who did have something to say about the case was the attorney of Mueller's ex,
03:00Charlie Sheen, who told In Touch,
03:02"...I believe Ms. Mueller's past choices may have put her in a position to provide some
03:06incidental, anecdotal background to the authorities investigating Mr. Perry's death, nothing more."
03:12But with police sources hinting they expect arrests will be made, it's hard not to wonder
03:17if Mueller has a reason to be worried.
03:20If you or anyone you know needs help with addiction issues, help is available.
