Trump and Biden clash in first 2024 US presidential election debate

Joe Biden and Donald Trump traded fiery barbs as they bitterly attacked each other's records and conduct, in a debate with enormous stakes as each seeks to shift the razor-tight race for the White House. Donald Trump "probably won" the face-off, says political analyst Aaron Kall after the fiery debate, citing Biden's "slow start".

00:30President Biden got off to a much slower start than he would have hoped for.
00:44Incumbent presidents usually struggle in the first debates, although he especially did
00:49eventually regain his sea legs, but it took a while and by then a lot of the audience
00:53may have tuned out because they typically don't watch the entire debate.
01:14Trump probably won the debate at least on points or a close contest, but he came into
01:20tonight ahead in a lot of the national polls, so what's going to emerge from out of this
01:26is a big discussion about President Biden's age, which is the last thing you want to follow
01:30in tonight's debate.
01:49So my candidate is of course President Trump.
01:51He's doing absolutely amazing.
01:53I think that a more broad discussion needs to be had specifically about the debate in
01:57terms of the rules, things like why, why wasn't there a live audience?
02:01You know, why are we going against precedent for decades, right?
02:06What does the Biden team have to hide in this situation?
02:34I would never vote for Trump.
02:36He doesn't answer any questions.
02:38He doesn't speak to me in any way, shape or form.
02:42I think if I really have to choose, those are my only two options, then Biden is going
02:48to have to be it, but it's not a vote that I'm happy about.
