A woman whose stalker proposed to her at work after having met her just once was so terrified of him she couldn't close her eyes in the shower.

Jennifer Pickering, 32, has bravely opened up about her terrifying ordeal in a bid to encourage other women to report similar harassment.

Jennifer only met her stalker once, in March 2022, before he started bombarding her with sexually explicit messages, moving house to be closer to her, and even proposing to her at her place of work.

Jennifer immediately contacted the police and Jan Schlossar, 42, pleaded guilty to two counts of stalking without serious alarm and distress.

He was given a lifetime restraining order in June 2022, but within two hours of his release from prison on 16th September, he contacted Jennifer again leading to his arrest and remand.

00:00My name is Jenny and I live in Leicester. I first met Jan when he applied for work.
00:06I was working within recruitment and he came in to apply for a truck driving job.
00:11The first encounter didn't necessarily ring alarm bells, although it was strange.
00:18From the first encounter he was placed in work, within around about 48 hours I'd say
00:24it started to get a little bit strange, a little bit out of the ordinary.
00:29I was getting messages and I was getting a lot of calls.
00:32From there he ended up turning up at the office that I worked in
00:37and he was in a three-piece suit with flowers and a wedding ring
00:42and he actually planned to get engaged to me that day.
00:45I was very scared and I called the police straight away because I've never had
00:49any situation like that before and it was surreal.
00:55He was released from his first arrest and he was bailed to an address within a mile from my house.
01:02Originally he did live in Peterborough so that escalated it very quickly
01:08and then from that I was kind of bombarded every single day relentlessly.
01:13On a day-to-day basis I was receiving messages throughout the night.
01:16I was getting messages at two, three o'clock in the morning, videos being sent to me.
01:22He would sit and talk for every 20 minutes a time telling me
01:26how we need to start making preparations for a baby, how he can't stop thinking about me,
01:31he's crying because he's thinking about me.
01:34I was getting messages while he was working, it was constant.
01:38It gave me a lot of anxiety and it made me very nervous around people
01:42which was really sad because most of my job is surrounding working with people
01:47so it definitely affected me.
01:49He went on for quite some time.
01:51The police would arrest him, bail him and he would break the conditions of his bail.
01:56He would then go to prison.
01:58When he comes out of prison he would contact me on one occasion.
02:02He contacted me within two hours of being released from prison.
02:05On another occasion he was sitting around five minutes away from my house
02:10waiting for me on a dark morning at 7am to go to work so he just didn't stop.
02:15He stayed in hotels close to my house and he kept entering Leicestershire.
02:20The outcome now is that he's been given two and a half years sentence
02:25and that happened on the 2nd of February.
02:27He will be released within I think the next six to eight months.
02:32Hopefully at that point the message has sunk in and it doesn't happen again.
02:37However I have still been receiving messages from one of his friends in the Czech Republic.
02:43Initially it made me nervous.
02:46Now I just don't do things.
02:49Now I'm very much of the mindset that if I go out there may be the chance I could stumble across
02:55another person like that and it would give me hell
02:57and I just don't want to be out in a position to do that again.
03:02It's made me very closed off to meeting new people
03:06and I just kind of stick with the safe routes and the safe zones I suppose.
03:12you
