00:00:00We're live from Georgia, a key battleground state in the race for the White House.
00:00:06In just moments, the current U.S. president will debate the former U.S. president
00:00:11as their party's presumptive nominees, a first in American history.
00:00:16We want to welcome our viewers in the United States and around the world to our studios in Atlanta.
00:00:22This is the CNN Presidential Debate.
00:00:26This debate is being produced by CNN and is coming to you live on CNN, CNN International,
00:00:33CNN.com, CNN Max, and CNN Español.
00:00:37This is a pivotal moment between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump
00:00:42in their rematch for the nation's highest office.
00:00:45Each will make his case to the American people with just over four months until Election Day.
00:00:52Good evening. I'm Dana Bash, anchor of CNN's Inside Politics and co-anchor of State of the Union.
00:00:57I'm Jake Tapper, anchor of CNN's The Lead and co-anchor of State of the Union.
00:01:01Dana and I will co-moderate this evening.
00:01:04Our job is to facilitate a debate between the two candidates tonight.
00:01:09Before we introduce them, we want to share the rules of the debate with the audience at home.
00:01:13Former President Trump will be on the left side of the screen.
00:01:16President Biden will be appearing on the right.
00:01:18A coin toss determines their positions.
00:01:21Each candidate will have two minutes to answer a question and one minute each for responses and rebuttals.
00:01:28An additional minute for follow-up clarification or response is at the moderator's discretion.
00:01:34When it's time for a candidate to speak, his microphone will be turned on and his opponent's microphone will be turned off.
00:01:42Should a candidate interrupt when his microphone is muted, he will be difficult to understand for viewers at home.
00:01:49At the end of the debate, each candidate will get two minutes for closing statements.
00:01:54There is no studio audience tonight.
00:01:56Pre-written notes, props or contact with campaign staff are not permitted during the debate.
00:02:02By accepting our invitation to debate, both candidates and their campaigns agreed to accept these rules.
00:02:10Now please welcome the 46th President of the United States, Joe Biden.
00:02:27And please welcome the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump.
00:02:40Gentlemen, thanks so much for being here.
00:02:44Let's begin the debate and let's start with the issue that voters consistently say is their top concern, the economy.
00:02:51President Biden, inflation has slowed, but prices remain high.
00:02:55Since you took office, the price of essentials has increased.
00:02:59For example, a basket of groceries that cost $100 then now costs more than $120.
00:03:05And typical home prices have jumped more than 30 percent.
00:03:08What do you say to voters who feel they are worse off under your presidency than they were under President Trump?
00:03:14We got to take a look at what I was left when I became president and what Mr. Trump left me.
00:03:19We had an economy that was in freefall.
00:03:21The pandemic was so badly handled.
00:03:24Many people were dying.
00:03:25All he said was it's not that serious.
00:03:27Just inject a little bleach into your arm.
00:03:29You'll be all right.
00:03:30The economy collapsed.
00:03:32There were no jobs.
00:03:33Unemployment rate rose to 15 percent.
00:03:35It was terrible.
00:03:37And so what we had to do was try to put things back together again.
00:03:40That's exactly what we began to do.
00:03:42We created 15,000 new jobs.
00:03:44We brought out a position where we have 800,000 new manufacturing jobs.
00:03:49But there's more to be done.
00:03:51There's more to be done.
00:03:52Working class people are still in trouble.
00:03:54I come from Scranton, Pennsylvania.
00:03:56I come from a household where the kitchen table, if things weren't able to be met during the month, it was a problem.
00:04:01The price of eggs, the price of gas, the price of housing, the price of a whole range of things.
00:04:05That's why I'm working so hard to make sure I deal with those problems.
00:04:09And we're going to make sure that we reduce the price of housing.
00:04:12We're going to make sure we build 2 million new units.
00:04:15We're going to make sure we cap rents so corporate greed can't take over.
00:04:19The combination of what's left of the corporate greed is the reason why we're in this problem right now.
00:04:23In addition to that, we're in a situation where if you take a look at all that was done in his administration,
00:04:29he didn't do much at all.
00:04:31By the time he left, things were in chaos, literally chaos.
00:04:35And so we put things back together.
00:04:37We created, I said, those jobs.
00:04:39We made sure we had a situation where we now brought down the price of prescription drugs,
00:04:44which is a major issue for many people, to $15 for an insulin shot as opposed to $400.
00:04:51No senior has to pay more than $200 for any drug, all the drugs they conclude beginning next year.
00:04:58And the situation is we're going to make that available to everybody, to all Americans.
00:05:03So we're working to bring down the price around the kitchen table, and that's what we're going to get done.
00:05:08Thank you. President Trump?
00:05:10We have the greatest economy in the history of our country.
00:05:13We have never done so well.
00:05:16Everybody was amazed by it.
00:05:18Other countries were copying us.
00:05:20We got hit with COVID.
00:05:22And when we did, we spent the money necessary so we wouldn't end up in a Great Depression,
00:05:27the likes of which we had in 1929, by the time we finished.
00:05:31So we did a great job.
00:05:32We got a lot of credit for the economy, a lot of credit for the military and no wars and so many other things.
00:05:37Everything was rocking good.
00:05:39But the thing we never got the credit for and we should have is getting us out of that COVID mess.
00:05:44He created mandates.
00:05:46That was a disaster for our country.
00:05:48But other than that, we had given them back a country where the stock market actually was higher than pre-COVID,
00:05:55and nobody thought that was even possible.
00:05:57The only jobs he created are for illegal immigrants and bounce-back jobs, a bounce-back from the COVID.
00:06:03He has not done a good job.
00:06:05He's done a poor job, and inflation is killing our country.
00:06:07It is absolutely killing us.
00:06:09Thank you. President Biden?
00:06:11Well, look, the greatest economy in the world.
00:06:13He's the only one who thinks that, I think.
00:06:15I don't know anybody else who thinks he had the greatest economy in the world.
00:06:18And, you know, the fact of the matter is that we found ourselves in a situation where his economy, he rewarded the wealthy.
00:06:27He had the largest tax cut in American history, $2 trillion.
00:06:31He raised the deficit larger than any president has in any one term.
00:06:34He's the only president other than Herbert Hoover who has lost more jobs than he had when he began, since Herbert Hoover.
00:06:40The idea that he did something that was significant.
00:06:43And the military, you know, when he was president, they were still killing people in Afghanistan.
00:06:48He didn't do anything about that.
00:06:50When he was president, we were still finding ourselves in a position where you had a notion that we were this safe country.
00:06:57The truth is, I'm the only president this century that doesn't have any, this decade, that doesn't have any troops dying anywhere in the world like he did.
00:07:08President Trump, I want to follow up, if I can.
00:07:11Am I allowed to respond to him?
00:07:13Well, I'm going to ask you a follow-up.
00:07:14You can do whatever you want with the minute that we gave you.
00:07:16I want to follow up.
00:07:17You want to impose a 10 percent tariff on all goods coming into the U.S.
00:07:21How will you ensure that that doesn't drive prices even higher?
00:07:24It's not going to drive them higher.
00:07:25It's just going to cost countries that have been ripping us off for years, like China and many others, in all fairness to China.
00:07:31It's going to just force them to pay us a lot of money, reduce our deficit tremendously, and give us a lot of power for other things.
00:07:38But he made a statement.
00:07:40The only thing he was right about is I gave you the largest tax cut in history.
00:07:44I also gave you the largest regulation cut in history.
00:07:46That's why we had all the jobs.
00:07:48And the jobs went down, and then they bounced back.
00:07:50And he's taking credit for bounce-back jobs.
00:07:52You can't do that.
00:07:53He also said he inherited 9 percent inflation.
00:07:56Now, he inherited almost no inflation, and it stayed that way for 14 months.
00:08:00And then it blew up under his leadership because they spent money like a bunch of people that didn't know what they were doing.
00:08:06And they don't know what they were doing.
00:08:07It was the worst, probably the worst administration in history.
00:08:10There's never been.
00:08:11And as far as Afghanistan is concerned, I was getting out of Afghanistan, but we were getting out with dignity, with strength, with power.
00:08:19He got out.
00:08:20It was the most embarrassing day in the history of our country's life.
00:08:24President Trump, over the last eight years, under both of your administrations, the national debt soared to record highs.
00:08:31And according to a new nonpartisan analysis, President Trump, your administration approved $8.4 trillion in new debt,
00:08:37while so far, President Biden, you've approved $4.3 trillion in new debt.
00:08:42So, former President Trump, many of the tax cuts that you signed into law are set to expire next year.
00:08:47You want to extend them and go even further, you say.
00:08:50With the U.S. facing trillion-dollar deficits and record debt, why should top earners and corporations pay even less in taxes than they do now?
00:08:59Because the tax cuts spurred the greatest economy that we've ever seen, just prior to COVID.
00:09:03And even after COVID, it was so strong that we were able to get through COVID much better than just about any other country.
00:09:09But we spurred, that tax spurred.
00:09:11Now, when we cut the taxes, as an example, the corporate tax was cut down to 21 percent from 39 percent, plus beyond that.
00:09:19We took in more revenue with much less tax, and companies were bringing back trillions of dollars back into our country.
00:09:26The country was going like never before.
00:09:29And we were ready to start paying down debt.
00:09:31We were ready to start using the liquid gold right under our feet, the oil and gas right under our feet.
00:09:36We were going to have something that nobody else has had.
00:09:39We got hit with COVID.
00:09:41We did a lot to fix it.
00:09:42I gave him an unbelievable situation with all of the therapeutics and all of the things that we came up with.
00:09:49We gave him something great.
00:09:51Remember, more people died under his administration, even though we had largely fixed it.
00:09:57More people died under his administration than our administration.
00:10:01And we were right in the middle of it, something which a lot of people don't like to talk about.
00:10:05But he had far more people dying in his administration.
00:10:08He did the mandate, which is a disaster, mandating it.
00:10:11The vaccine went out.
00:10:13He did a mandate on the vaccine, which is the thing that people most objected to about the vaccine.
00:10:18And he did a very poor job, just a very poor job.
00:10:21And I will tell you, not only poor there, but throughout the entire world, we're no longer respected as a country.
00:10:27They don't respect our leadership.
00:10:29They don't respect the United States anymore.
00:10:31We're like a third world nation between weaponization of his election, trying to go after his political opponent.
00:10:38All of the things he's done, we've become like a third world nation.
00:10:41And it's a shame.
00:10:43The damage he's done to our country.
00:10:45And I'd love to ask him and will why he allowed millions of people to come in here from prisons, jails and mental institutions to come into our country and destroy our country.
00:10:55President Trump, we will get to immigration later in this block.
00:10:59President Biden, I want to give you an opportunity to respond to this question about the national debt.
00:11:03He had the largest national debt of any president for your period.
00:11:07Number two, he got two trillion dollar tax cut, benefited the very wealthy.
00:11:12What I'm going to do is fix the taxes.
00:11:14For example, we have a thousand trillionaires in America, billionaires in America.
00:11:19And what's happening?
00:11:21They're in a situation where they in fact pay eight point two percent in taxes.
00:11:25If they just paid 24 percent, 25 percent, either one of those numbers, they'd raise five hundred million dollars, billion dollars, I should say, in a 10 year period.
00:11:35We'd be able to wipe out his debt. We'd be able to help make sure that all those things we need to do.
00:11:40Child care, elder care, making sure that we continue to strengthen our health care system, making sure that we're able to make every single solitary person eligible for what I've been able to do with the with the covid.
00:11:56Dealing with everything we have to do with.
00:12:00Look, if we finally beat Medicare.
00:12:06Thank you, President Biden. President Trump was right.
00:12:09He did beat Medicare. He beat it to death.
00:12:11And he's destroying Medicare because all of these people are coming in.
00:12:15They're putting them on Medicare. They're putting them on Social Security.
00:12:19They're going to destroy Social Security. This man is going to single handedly destroy Social Security.
00:12:24These millions and millions of people coming in, they're trying to put them on Social Security.
00:12:29He will wipe out Social Security. He will wipe out Medicare.
00:12:33So he was right in the way he finished that sentence.
00:12:35And it's a shame what's happened to our country in the last four years is not to be believed.
00:12:41Foreign countries. I'm friends with a lot of people.
00:12:44They cannot believe what happened to the United States of America.
00:12:47We're no longer respected. They they don't like us.
00:12:51We give them everything they want and they they think we're stupid.
00:12:54They think we're very stupid people.
00:12:56What we're doing for other countries and they do nothing for us.
00:13:00What this man has done is absolutely criminal.
00:13:04Thank you, President Trump.
00:13:06This is the first presidential election since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade this morning.
00:13:12The court ruled on yet another abortion case temporarily allowing emergency abortions to continue in Idaho.
00:13:20Despite that state's restrictive ban, former President Trump, you take credit for the decision to overturn Roe v.
00:13:27Wade, which returned the issue of abortion to the states.
00:13:31However, the federal government still plays a role in whether or not women have access to abortion pills.
00:13:39They're used in about two thirds of all abortions.
00:13:43As president, would you block abortion medication?
00:13:47First of all, the Supreme Court just approved the abortion pill.
00:13:51And I agree with their decision to have done that.
00:13:54And I will not block it.
00:13:55And if you look at this whole question that you're asking, a complex but not really complex.
00:14:01Fifty one years ago, you had Roe v.
00:14:03Wade and everybody wanted to get it back to the states.
00:14:06Everybody, without exception, Democrats, Republicans, liberals, conservatives, everybody wanted to back religious leaders.
00:14:13And what I did is I put three great Supreme Court justices on the court and they happened to vote in favor of killing Roe v.
00:14:21Wade and moving it back to the states.
00:14:23This is something that everybody wanted.
00:14:26Now, 10 years ago or so, they started talking about how many weeks and how many this getting into other things.
00:14:31But every legal scholar throughout the world, the most respected, wanted it brought back to the states.
00:14:37I did that.
00:14:38Now the states are working it out.
00:14:40If you look at Ohio, it was a decision that was it was an end result that was a little bit more liberal than you would have thought.
00:14:47Kansas, I would say the same thing.
00:14:49Texas is different.
00:14:50Florida is different.
00:14:51But they're all making their own decisions right now.
00:14:54And right now, the states control it.
00:14:56That's the vote of the people like Ronald Reagan.
00:14:59I believe in the exceptions.
00:15:01I am a person that believes.
00:15:03And frankly, I think it's important to believe in the exception.
00:15:06Some people you have to follow your heart.
00:15:07Some people don't believe in that.
00:15:09But I believe in the exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.
00:15:14I think it's very important.
00:15:15Some people don't follow your heart, but you have to get elected also.
00:15:19And because that has to do with other things, you got to get elected.
00:15:23The problem they have is they're radical because they will take the life of a child in the eighth month, the ninth month and even after birth.
00:15:30After birth, if you look at the former governor of Virginia, he was willing to do this.
00:15:35He said, we'll put the baby aside and we'll determine what we do with the baby, meaning we'll kill the baby.
00:15:41What happened is we brought it back to the states and the country is now coming together on this issue.
00:15:46It's been a great thing.
00:15:48Thank you, President Biden.
00:15:49It's been a terrible thing.
00:15:51What you've done.
00:15:52The fact is that the vast majority of constitutional scholars supported Roe when it was decided.
00:15:57Support it, Roe.
00:15:58And that was that's this idea that they were all against it.
00:16:01It's just ridiculous.
00:16:02And this is the guy who says the state should be able to have it.
00:16:05We're a state where in six weeks, you don't even know whether you're pregnant or not, but you cannot see a doctor, have you and have him decide on what your circumstances are, whether you need help.
00:16:16The idea that states are able to do this is a little like saying we're going to turn civil rights back to the states that each state have a different rule.
00:16:24Look, there's so many young women who have been, including a young woman who just was murdered.
00:16:29And he went to the funeral.
00:16:31And the idea that she was murdered by a by an immigrant coming in to talk about that.
00:16:38But here's the deal.
00:16:39There's a lot of young women to be raped by their by their in-laws, by their by their spouses, brothers and sisters, by just it's just ridiculous.
00:16:49And they can do nothing about it.
00:16:51And they try to arrest them on the cross state line.
00:16:53Thank you.
00:16:55There have been many young women murdered by the same people he allows to come across our border.
00:17:01We have a border that's the most dangerous place anywhere in the world.
00:17:04Consider the most dangerous place anywhere in the world.
00:17:07And he opened it up.
00:17:08And these killers are coming into our country and they are raping and killing women.
00:17:13And it's a terrible thing.
00:17:14As far as the abortion is concerned, it is now back with the states.
00:17:17The states are voting.
00:17:19In many cases, the it's frankly a very liberal decision.
00:17:22In many cases, it's the opposite.
00:17:24But they're voting and it's bringing it back to the vote of the people, which is what everybody wanted, including the founders.
00:17:30If they knew about this issue, which, frankly, they didn't.
00:17:33But they would have everybody wanted brought back.
00:17:36Ronald Reagan wanted it brought back.
00:17:38He wasn't able to get it.
00:17:39Everybody wanted it brought back.
00:17:41And many presidents had tried to get it back.
00:17:44I was the one to do it.
00:17:45And again, this gives it the vote of the people.
00:17:48And that's where they wanted it.
00:17:50Every legal scholar wanted it that way.
00:17:53Staying on the topic of abortion, President Biden, seven states.
00:17:57I'll let you do that.
00:17:58This is the same topic.
00:18:00Seven states have no legal restrictions on how far into a pregnancy a woman can obtain an abortion.
00:18:07Do you support any legal limits on how late a woman should be able to terminate a pregnancy?
00:18:12I support Roe v. Wade, which had three trimesters.
00:18:16The first time is between the woman and the doctor.
00:18:19Second time is between the doctor and an extreme situation.
00:18:23The third time is between the doctor, I mean, between the woman and the state.
00:18:28The idea that the politicians, that the founders wanted the politicians to be the ones making decisions about a woman's health is ridiculous.
00:18:36That's the last.
00:18:37No politician should be making that decision.
00:18:39A doctor should be making those decisions.
00:18:42That's what you're going to do.
00:18:43And if I'm elected, I'm going to restore Roe v. Wade.
00:18:46So that means he can take the life of the baby in the ninth month and even after birth, because some states, Democrat run, take it after birth.
00:18:55Again, the governor, former governor of Virginia, put the baby down.
00:18:59Then we decide what to do with it.
00:19:00So he's he's willing to, as we say, rip the baby out of the womb in the ninth month and kill the baby.
00:19:07Nobody wants that to happen.
00:19:09Democrat or Republican.
00:19:10Nobody wants it to happen.
00:19:12That is simply not true.
00:19:15The Roe v. Wade does not provide for that.
00:19:17That's not the circumstance.
00:19:19Only woman's life is in danger.
00:19:20She's going to die.
00:19:21That's the only circumstance where that can happen.
00:19:23But we are not for late term abortion, period, period, period.
00:19:28Under Roe v. Wade, you have late term abortion.
00:19:31You can do whatever you want.
00:19:32Depending on the state, you can do whatever you want.
00:19:34We don't think that's a good thing.
00:19:36We think it's a radical thing.
00:19:37We think the Democrats are the radicals, not the Republicans.
00:19:40For 51 years, that was the law.
00:19:42Fifty one years.
00:19:43Constitutional scholarship said it was the right way to go.
00:19:45Fifty one years.
00:19:47And it was taken away because this guy put very conservative members on the Supreme Court.
00:19:51He takes credit for taking it away.
00:19:53What's he going to do?
00:19:54What's he going to do?
00:19:55In fact, if if the MAGA Republicans, he gets elected and the MAGA Republicans control the Congress and they pass a universal ban on abortion, period.
00:20:05Across the board at six weeks or seven or eight or 10 weeks.
00:20:08Something very, very conservative.
00:20:10Is he going to sign that bill?
00:20:12I'll veto it.
00:20:13He'll sign it.
00:20:14Thank you.
00:20:15Let's turn on to the issue of immigration and border security.
00:20:17President Biden, a record number of migrants have illegally crossed the southern border on your watch.
00:20:23Overwhelming border states and overburdening cities such as New York and Chicago and in some cases causing real safety and security concerns.
00:20:30Given that, why should voters trust you to solve this crisis?
00:20:34Because we worked very hard to get a bipartisan agreement that not only changed all of that,
00:20:39made sure that we are in a situation where you had no circumstance where they could come across the border with the number of border police there are now.
00:20:48We significantly increased the number of asylum officers.
00:20:51Significantly.
00:20:52By the way, the Border Patrol endorsed me, endorsed my position.
00:20:56In addition to that, we found ourselves in a situation where when he was president, he was taking separating babies from their mothers,
00:21:03putting them in cages, making sure the families were separated.
00:21:07That's not the right way to go.
00:21:09What I've done since I've changed the law, what's happened?
00:21:12I've changed it in a way that now you're in a situation where there are 40 percent fewer people coming across the border illegally.
00:21:19That's better than when he left office.
00:21:22And I'm going to continue to move until we get the total ban on the total initiative relative to what we're going to do with more border patrol and more asylum officers.
00:21:33President Trump?
00:21:34I really don't know what he said at the end of that sentence.
00:21:37I don't think he knows what he said either.
00:21:39Look, we had the safest border in the history of our country.
00:21:42The board, all he had to do was leave it.
00:21:44All he had to do is leave it.
00:21:45He decided to open up our border, open up our country to people that are from prisons, people that are from mental institutions, insane asylum terrorists.
00:21:56We have the largest number of terrorists coming into our country right now.
00:21:59All terrorists all over the world, not just in South America, all over the world.
00:22:03They come from the Middle East, everywhere, all over the world.
00:22:06They're pouring in.
00:22:07And this guy just left it open.
00:22:09And he didn't need legislation because I didn't have legislation.
00:22:12I said, close the border.
00:22:14We had the safest border in history.
00:22:16In that final couple of months of my presidency, we had, according to Border Patrol, who is great.
00:22:22And by the way, who endorsed me for president, but I won't say that, but they endorsed me for president.
00:22:27Brandon, just speak to him.
00:22:29But look, we had the safest border in history.
00:22:32Now we have the worst border in history.
00:22:33There's never been anything like it.
00:22:35And people are dying all over the place, including the people that are coming up.
00:22:39Thank you, President Trump.
00:22:40President Biden?
00:22:41The only terrorist who's done anything across the border is one who came along and killed three in his administration.
00:22:47Killed an al-Qaida person in his administration.
00:22:52Killed three American soldiers.
00:22:54Killed three American soldiers.
00:22:56That's the only terrorist that's there.
00:22:58I'm not saying no terrorist ever got through.
00:23:00But the idea, they're emptying their prisons.
00:23:02We're welcoming these people.
00:23:03That's simply not true.
00:23:05There's no data to support what he said.
00:23:07Once again, he's exaggerating.
00:23:08He's lying.
00:23:10President Trump, staying on the topic of immigration, you've said that you're going to carry out, quote,
00:23:14the largest domestic deportation operation in American history, unquote.
00:23:18Does that mean that you will deport every undocumented immigrant in America,
00:23:22including those who have jobs, including those whose spouses are citizens,
00:23:26and including those who have lived here for decades?
00:23:28And if so, how will you do it?
00:23:31Just one second.
00:23:32He said we killed three people.
00:23:34The people we killed are al-Baghdadi and Salamani,
00:23:38the two greatest terrorists, biggest terrorists anywhere in the world.
00:23:41And it had a huge impact on everything, not just border, on everything.
00:23:45He's the one that killed people with the bad water, including hundreds of thousands of people dying
00:23:51and also killing our citizens when they come in.
00:23:54We are living right now in a rat's nest.
00:23:57They're killing our people in New York, in California, in every state in the union
00:24:02because we don't have borders anymore.
00:24:04Every state is now a border.
00:24:06And because of his ridiculous, insane, and very stupid policies,
00:24:11people are coming in and they're killing our citizens at a level that we've never seen.
00:24:15We call it migrant crime.
00:24:17I call it Biden migrant crime.
00:24:19They're killing our citizens at a level that we've never seen before.
00:24:23And you're reading it like these three incredible young girls over the last few days.
00:24:28One of them, I just spoke to the mother, and he just had the funeral for this girl, 12 years old.
00:24:34This is horrible what's taken place, what's taken place in our country.
00:24:38We're literally an uncivilized country now.
00:24:42He doesn't want it to be.
00:24:43He just doesn't know.
00:24:44He opened the borders.
00:24:45Nobody's ever seen anything like.
00:24:47And we have to get a lot of these people out, and we have to get them out fast
00:24:50because they're going to destroy our country.
00:24:52Just take a look at where they're living.
00:24:54They're living in luxury hotels in New York City and other places.
00:24:59Our veterans are on the street.
00:25:00They're dying because he doesn't care about our veterans.
00:25:02He doesn't care.
00:25:03He doesn't like the military at all, and he doesn't care about our veterans.
00:25:06Nobody been worse.
00:25:08I had the highest approval rating for veterans taking care of the VA.
00:25:12He is the worst.
00:25:13He's gotten rid of all the things that I approved, choice, that I got through Congress.
00:25:17All of the different things I approved, they abandoned.
00:25:20We had by far the highest, and now it's down in less than half
00:25:24because he's done all these great things that we did,
00:25:27and I think he did it just because I approved it, which is crazy.
00:25:30But he has killed so many people at our border by allowing all of these people to come in,
00:25:35and it's a very sad day in America.
00:25:37President Biden, you have the mic.
00:25:38Every single thing he said is a lie, every single one.
00:25:41For example, veterans are a hell of a lot better off since they passed the PACT Act.
00:25:45One million of them now have insurance, and their families have it
00:25:50because what happened, whether it was Agent Orange or burn pits,
00:25:54they're all being covered now, and his group opposed that.
00:25:58We're also in a situation where we have great respect for veterans.
00:26:01My son spent a year in Iraq living next to one of those burn pits,
00:26:05came back with stage four glioblastoma.
00:26:08I was recently in France for D-Day, and I spoke all about those heroes that died.
00:26:15I went to the World War II cemetery, World War I cemetery he refused to go to.
00:26:20He was standing with his four-star general, and he told me,
00:26:23he said, I don't want to go in there because they're a bunch of losers and suckers.
00:26:26My son was not a loser, was not a sucker.
00:26:28You're the sucker. You're the loser.
00:26:30President Trump?
00:26:32First of all, that was a made-up quote, suckers and losers.
00:26:35They made it up. It was in a third-rate magazine that's failing, like many of these magazines.
00:26:39He made that up. He put it in commercials. We've notified him.
00:26:43We had 19 people that said I didn't say it.
00:26:45And think of this. Who would say I'm at a cemetery or I'm talking about our veterans?
00:26:50Because nobody's taking better care. I'm so glad this came up, and he brought it up.
00:26:55There's nobody that's taken better care of our soldiers than I have.
00:26:59To think that I would, in front of generals and others, say suckers and losers.
00:27:03We have 19 people that said it was never said by me.
00:27:07It was made up by him, just like Russia, Russia, Russia was made up,
00:27:11just like the 51 intelligence agents are made up,
00:27:15just like the new thing with the 16 economists are talking, it's the same thing.
00:27:1951 intelligence agents said that the laptop was Russia disinformation.
00:27:24It wasn't. That came from his son, Hunter. It wasn't Russia disinformation.
00:27:29He made up the suckers and losers, so he should apologize to me right now.
00:27:34The four-star general standing at your side was on your staff who said you said it.
00:27:38Period. That's number one.
00:27:40And number two, the idea, the idea that I have to apologize to you for anything along the line.
00:27:46We've done more for veterans than any president has in American history, American history.
00:27:51And they now are in their family.
00:27:53The only sacred obligation we have as a country is to care for our veterans when they come home
00:27:57and their families and equip them when they go to war.
00:28:00That's what we're doing. That's what the VA is doing now.
00:28:03They're doing more for veterans than ever before in our history.
00:28:06All right. Thank you so much.
00:28:08Let's move to the topic of foreign policy.
00:28:10I want to begin with Russia's war against Ukraine, which is now in its third year.
00:28:15Former President Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin says he'll only end this war
00:28:21if Russia keeps the Ukrainian territory it has already claimed
00:28:25and Ukraine abandons its bid to join NATO.
00:28:30Are Putin's terms acceptable to you?
00:28:32First of all, our veterans and our soldiers can't stand this guy.
00:28:37They can't stand him.
00:28:39They think he's the worst commander in chief, if that's what you call him, that we've ever had.
00:28:43They can't stand him, so let's get that straight.
00:28:46And they like me more than just about any of them,
00:28:49and that's based on every single bit of information.
00:28:52As far as Russia and Ukraine, if we had a real president,
00:28:56the president that was respected by Putin, he would have never invaded Ukraine.
00:29:02A lot of people are dead right now, much more than people know.
00:29:05You know, they talk about numbers.
00:29:07You can double those numbers, maybe triple those numbers.
00:29:10He did nothing to stop it.
00:29:11In fact, I think he encouraged Russia from going in.
00:29:14I'll tell you what happened.
00:29:15He was so bad with Afghanistan, it was such a horrible embarrassment,
00:29:19most embarrassing moment in the history of our country,
00:29:22that when Putin watched that and he saw the incompetence,
00:29:25that he should have fired those generals like I fired the one that you mentioned.
00:29:29And so he's got no love lost, but he should have fired those generals.
00:29:32No general got fired for the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country, Afghanistan,
00:29:39where we left billions of dollars of equipment behind.
00:29:42We lost 13 beautiful soldiers, and 38 soldiers were obliterated.
00:29:46And by the way, we left people behind, too.
00:29:48We left American citizens behind.
00:29:50When Putin saw that, he said, you know what?
00:29:53I think we're going to go in and maybe take my—this was his dream.
00:29:57I talked to him about it, his dream.
00:29:59The difference is he never would have invaded Ukraine, never.
00:30:03Just like Israel would have never been invaded.
00:30:07In a million years by Hamas.
00:30:09You know why?
00:30:10Because Iran was broke with me.
00:30:12I wouldn't let anybody do business with them.
00:30:14They ran out of money.
00:30:15They were broke.
00:30:16They had no money for Hamas.
00:30:17They had no money for anything.
00:30:19No money for terror.
00:30:20That's why you had no terror at all during my administration.
00:30:24This place, the whole world is blowing up under him.
00:30:28President Biden?
00:30:30I've never heard so much malarkey in my whole life.
00:30:32Look, the fact of the matter is that we're in a situation where—
00:30:34let's take the last point first.
00:30:36Iran attacked American troops, caused brain damage for a number of these troops,
00:30:43and he did nothing about it when he was president.
00:30:46They attacked.
00:30:47He said, they're just having headaches.
00:30:49That's all it is.
00:30:50But he didn't do a thing when the attack took place, number one.
00:30:54Number two, we got over 100,000 Americans and others out of Afghanistan during that airlift.
00:31:02Number three, we found ourselves in a situation where,
00:31:05if you take a look at what Trump did in Ukraine,
00:31:08this guy told Trump, do whatever you want and do whatever you want.
00:31:14And that's exactly what Trump did to Putin.
00:31:18Encourage him, do whatever you want.
00:31:20And he went in.
00:31:21Listen to what he said when he went in.
00:31:22He was going to take Kiev in five days, remember?
00:31:24Because it's part of the old Soviet Union.
00:31:26That's what he wanted to reestablish, Kiev.
00:31:29And he, in fact, didn't do it at all.
00:31:31He didn't, wasn't able to get it done.
00:31:33And they've lost over, they've lost thousands and thousands of troops, 500,000 troops.
00:31:38Thank you.
00:31:39President Trump, I'm going to come back to you for one minute.
00:31:41I never said that.
00:31:42I just want to go back to my original question, which is,
00:31:44are Putin's terms acceptable to you, keeping the territory in Ukraine?
00:31:48No, they're not acceptable.
00:31:49No, they're not acceptable.
00:31:51But look, this is a war that never should have started.
00:31:54If we had a leader in this war, he led everybody along.
00:31:57He's given $200 billion now or more to Ukraine.
00:32:01He's given $200 billion.
00:32:03That's a lot of money.
00:32:04I don't think there's ever been anything like it.
00:32:06Every time that Zelensky comes to this country, he walks away with $60 billion.
00:32:10He's the greatest salesman ever.
00:32:12And I'm not knocking him.
00:32:13I'm not knocking anything.
00:32:15I'm only saying the money that we're spending on this war,
00:32:19and we shouldn't be spending, it should have never happened.
00:32:22I will have that war settled between Putin and Zelensky as president-elect
00:32:28before I take office on January 20th.
00:32:30I'll have that war settled.
00:32:32People being killed so needlessly, so stupidly.
00:32:36And I will get it settled, and I'll get it settled fast before I take office.
00:32:41President Biden, you have a minute.
00:32:43The fact is that Putin is a war criminal.
00:32:46He's killed thousands and thousands of people.
00:32:49And he has made one thing clear.
00:32:51He wants to reestablish what was part of the Soviet empire,
00:32:55not just a peace.
00:32:56He wants all of Ukraine.
00:32:58That's what he wants.
00:32:59And then you think he'll stop there?
00:33:01Do you think he'll stop if he takes Ukraine?
00:33:04What do you think happens to Poland?
00:33:05What do you think happens to Belarus?
00:33:07What do you think happens to those NATO countries?
00:33:09And so if you want a war, you ought to find out what he's going to do
00:33:13because if, in fact, he does what he says and walks away.
00:33:16By the way, all that money we give Ukraine,
00:33:19the weapons we make here in the United States,
00:33:21we give them the weapons, not the money at this point.
00:33:24And our NATO allies have produced as much funding for Ukraine as we have.
00:33:30That's why we're strong.
00:33:33Thank you.
00:33:34Moving on to the Middle East.
00:33:35In October, Hamas attacked Israel,
00:33:38killing more than 1,000 people and taking hundreds of hostages.
00:33:42Among those held and thought to still be alive are five Americans.
00:33:46Israel's response has killed thousands of Palestinians
00:33:49and created a humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
00:33:52President Biden, you've put forward a proposal to resolve this conflict.
00:33:58But so far, Hamas has not released the remaining hostages,
00:34:02and Israel is continuing its military offensive in Gaza.
00:34:06So what additional leverage will you use
00:34:09to get Hamas and Israel to end the war?
00:34:12You have two minutes.
00:34:13Number one, everyone from the United Nations Security Council
00:34:19straight through the G7 to the Israelis and Netanyahu himself
00:34:22have endorsed the plan I put forward, endorsed the plan I put forward,
00:34:26which has three stages to it.
00:34:28The first stage is treat the hostages for a ceasefire.
00:34:33Second phase is a ceasefire with additional conditions.
00:34:36The third phase is the end of the war.
00:34:39The only one who wants the war to continue is Hamas, number one.
00:34:43They're the only one standing out.
00:34:44We're still pushing hard to get them to accept.
00:34:47In the meantime, what's happened?
00:34:49In Israel, we're trying to say the only thing I've denied Israel was 2,000-pound bombs.
00:34:55They don't work very well in populated areas.
00:34:57They kill a lot of innocent people.
00:34:59We're providing Israel with all the weapons they need and when they need them.
00:35:02And by the way, I'm the guy that organized the world against Iran
00:35:06when they had a full-blown intercontinental ballistic missile attack on Israel.
00:35:12No one was hurt.
00:35:13No one Israeli was accidentally killed, and it stopped.
00:35:18We saved Israel.
00:35:19We are the biggest producer of support for Israel of anyone in the world.
00:35:24And so that's the two different things.
00:35:27Hamas cannot be allowed to be continued.
00:35:29We continue to send our experts and our intelligence people
00:35:32as to how they can get Hamas like we did bin Laden.
00:35:35You don't have to do it.
00:35:37And by the way, they've been greatly weakened, Hamas, greatly weakened, and they should be.
00:35:41They should be eliminated.
00:35:43But you've got to be careful for what uses certain weapons among population centers.
00:35:51Just going back to Ukraine for one second.
00:35:53We have an ocean separating us.
00:35:56The European nations together have spent $100 billion or maybe more than that, less than us.
00:36:03Why doesn't he call them and say you've got to put up your money like I did with NATO?
00:36:07I got them to put up hundreds of billions of dollars.
00:36:09The Secretary General of NATO said Trump did the most incredible job I've ever seen.
00:36:14They wouldn't have any.
00:36:15They were going out of business.
00:36:16We were spending almost 100% of the money that was paid by us.
00:36:21He didn't do that.
00:36:22He's getting all.
00:36:23You've got to ask these people to put up the money.
00:36:25We're over $100 billion more spent, and it has a bigger impact on them because of location,
00:36:31because we have an ocean in between.
00:36:33You've got to ask them.
00:36:34As far as Israel and Hamas, Israel is the one that wants to go.
00:36:39He said the only one that wants to keep going is Hamas.
00:36:42Actually, Israel is the one, and you should let him go and let him finish the job.
00:36:46He doesn't want to do it.
00:36:47He's become like a Palestinian, but they don't like him because he's a very bad Palestinian.
00:36:51He's a weak one.
00:36:53President Biden, you have a minute.
00:36:55I've never heard so much foolishness.
00:36:57This is a guy who wants to get out of NATO.
00:36:59Are you going to stay in NATO?
00:37:00He's going to pull out of NATO.
00:37:02The idea that we have our strength lies in our alliances as well.
00:37:06It may be a big ocean, but if we're able to avoid a war in Europe, a major war in Europe,
00:37:11what happens if, in fact, you have Putin continue to go into NATO?
00:37:16We have an Article 5 agreement.
00:37:17Attack on one is attack on all.
00:37:19If you want to start the nuclear war he keeps talking about, go ahead.
00:37:22Let Putin go in and control Ukraine and then move on to Poland and other places.
00:37:28We'll see what happens then.
00:37:30He has no idea what the hell he's talking about.
00:37:32And by the way, I've got 50 other nations around the world to support Ukraine,
00:37:36including Japan and South Korea, because they understand that this kind of dislocation
00:37:42has a serious threat to the whole world peace.
00:37:45No major war in Europe has ever been able to be contained just to Europe.
00:37:50President Trump, just to follow up, would you support the creation of an independent
00:37:54Palestinian state in order to achieve peace in the region?
00:37:57I'd have to see.
00:37:58But before we do that, the problem we have is that we spend all the money.
00:38:02So they kill us on trade.
00:38:04I've made great trade deals with the European nations.
00:38:07Because if you add them up, they're about the same size economically.
00:38:11Their economy is about the same size as the United States.
00:38:14And they were no cars.
00:38:16They don't want anything that we have.
00:38:18They're supposed to take their cars, their food, their everything, their agriculture.
00:38:22I changed that.
00:38:23But the big thing I changed is they don't want to pay.
00:38:26And the only reason that he can play games with NATO is because I got them to put up
00:38:31hundreds of billions of dollars.
00:38:33I said, and he's right about this, I said, no, I'm not going to support NATO if you don't pay.
00:38:39They asked me that question.
00:38:40Would you guard us against Russia at a very secret meeting of the 28 states at that time,
00:38:46nations at that time?
00:38:47And I said, no, if you don't pay, I won't do that.
00:38:50And you know what happened?
00:38:51Billions and billions of dollars came flowing in the next day and the next months.
00:38:56But now we're in the same position.
00:38:58We're paying everybody's bills.
00:39:00Let's turn to the issue of democracy.
00:39:02Former President Trump, I want to ask you about January 6th, 2021.
00:39:06After you rallied your supporters that day, some of them stormed the Capitol to stop the
00:39:11constitutionally mandated counting of electoral votes.
00:39:14As president, you swore an oath to, quote, preserve, protect and defend, unquote, the
00:39:19Constitution.
00:39:20What do you say to voters who believe that you violated that oath through your actions and
00:39:24inaction on January 6th and worry that you'll do it again?
00:39:27Well, I don't think too many believe that.
00:39:29And let me tell you about January 6th.
00:39:31On January 6th, we had a great border.
00:39:34Nobody coming through.
00:39:35Very few.
00:39:36On January 6th, we were energy independent.
00:39:38On January 6th, we had the lowest taxes ever.
00:39:41We had the lowest regulations ever.
00:39:43On January 6th, we were respected all over the world.
00:39:46All over the world, we were respected.
00:39:49And then he comes in and we're now left that.
00:39:51We're like a bunch of stupid people.
00:39:54What happened to the United States' reputation under this man's leadership is horrible, including
00:40:01weaponization, which I'm sure at some point you'll be talking about, where he goes after
00:40:05his political opponent because he can't beat him fair and square.
00:40:08You have 80 seconds left.
00:40:10My question was, what do you say to those voters who believe that you violated your
00:40:14constitutional oath through your actions and inaction on January 6th, 2021, and worry that
00:40:19you'll do it again?
00:40:20Well, I didn't say that to anybody.
00:40:22I said peacefully and patriotically.
00:40:25And Nancy Pelosi, if you just watched the news from two days ago, on tape to her daughter,
00:40:30who is a documentary filmmaker, they say, but she's saying, oh, no, it's my responsibility.
00:40:37I was responsible for this because I offered her 10,000 soldiers or National Guard and
00:40:42she turned them down.
00:40:43And the mayor of in writing, by the way, the mayor in writing turned it down.
00:40:47The mayor of D.C., they turned it down.
00:40:50I offered 10,000 because I could see I had virtually nothing to do.
00:40:55They asked me to go make a speech.
00:40:57I could see what was happening.
00:40:58Everybody was saying they're going to be there on January 6th.
00:41:00They're going to be there.
00:41:01And I said, you know what?
00:41:02There's a lot of people coming.
00:41:03You could feel it.
00:41:04You could feel it, too.
00:41:05You could feel it, too.
00:41:06And you could feel it.
00:41:07And I said, they ought to have some National Guard or whatever.
00:41:11And I offered it to her.
00:41:12And she now admits that she turned it down.
00:41:15And it was the same day she was.
00:41:17I don't know.
00:41:18He can't be very happy with her daughter because it made her into a liar.
00:41:21She said, I take full responsibility for January 6th.
00:41:25President Biden.
00:41:27Look, he encouraged those folks to go to Capitol Hill.
00:41:31Number one.
00:41:32I sat in the dining room off the Oval Office.
00:41:34He sat there for three hours.
00:41:36Three hours watching, begging, being begged by his vice president
00:41:41and a number of his colleagues on the Republican side as well to do something,
00:41:45to call for a stop, to end it.
00:41:47Instead, he talked about these people being patriots and great patrons of America.
00:41:52In fact, he says he'll now forgive them for what they've done.
00:41:56They've been convicted.
00:41:58He says he wants to commute their sentences and say that, no.
00:42:03He went to every single court in the nation.
00:42:05I don't know how many cases, scores of cases, including the Supreme Court.
00:42:10And they said, no, no, this guy is responsible for doing what was done.
00:42:17He did do a damn thing.
00:42:18And these people should be in jail.
00:42:20And they should be the ones who are being held accountable.
00:42:24And he wants to let them all out.
00:42:25And now he says that he loses again, such a whiner that he is, that it could be a bloodbath.
00:42:30Thank you, President Biden.
00:42:31President Trump?
00:42:33What they've done to some people that are so innocent, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.
00:42:38What you have done, how you've destroyed the lives of so many people,
00:42:41when they ripped down Portland, when they ripped down many other cities.
00:42:47You go to Minnesota, Minneapolis, what they've done there with the fires all over the city.
00:42:52If I didn't bring in the National Guard, that city would have been destroyed.
00:42:55When you look at all of the, they took over big chunks of Seattle.
00:43:00I was all set to bring in the National Guard.
00:43:02They heard that, they saw them coming, and they left immediately.
00:43:05What he said about this whole subject is so off.
00:43:09Peacefully patriotic.
00:43:11One other thing.
00:43:12The unselect committee, which is basically two horrible Republicans that are all gone now,
00:43:19out of office, and Democrats, all Democrats.
00:43:22They destroyed and deleted all of the information they found,
00:43:26because they found out we were right.
00:43:28We were right.
00:43:29And they deleted and destroyed all of the information.
00:43:31They should go to jail for that.
00:43:33If a Republican did that, they'd go to jail.
00:43:35Thank you, President Trump.
00:43:36President Biden, I want to give you a minute.
00:43:38The only person on this stage who's a convicted felon is the man I'm looking at right now.
00:43:42And the fact of the matter is, what he's telling you is simply not true.
00:43:47The fact is that there was no effort on his part to stop what was going on up on Capitol Hill.
00:43:53And all those people, every one of those who were convicted deserves to be convicted.
00:43:58The idea that they didn't kill somebody, just went in and broke down doors, broke the windows,
00:44:03occupied offices, turned over desks, turned them over statues.
00:44:08The idea that those people are patriots?
00:44:11Come on.
00:44:12When I asked him the first two debates we had, the debates we had the first time around,
00:44:17I said, will you denounce the proud boys?
00:44:19He said, no, I'll tell them to stand by.
00:44:22The idea he's refusing, will you denounce these guys?
00:44:26Will you denounce the people we're talking about now?
00:44:28Will you denounce the people who attacked that Capitol?
00:44:31What are you going to do?
00:44:33I'm going to give you a minute, President Trump, for a follow-up question I have.
00:44:39After a jury convicted you of 34 felonies last month, you said if reelected you would, quote,
00:44:45have every right to go after, unquote, your political opponents.
00:44:48You just talked about members of the select committee on January 6th going to jail.
00:44:52Your main political opponent is standing on stage with you tonight.
00:44:55Can you clarify exactly what it means about you feeling you have every right to go after your political opponents?
00:45:00Well, I said my retribution is going to be success.
00:45:03We're going to make this country successful again because right now it's a failing nation.
00:45:07My retribution is going to be success.
00:45:09But when he talks about a convicted felon, his son is a convicted felon at a very high level.
00:45:15His son is convicted, going to be convicted probably numerous other times.
00:45:18Should have been convicted before, but his Justice Department let the statute of limitations lapse on the most important things.
00:45:25But he could be a convicted felon as soon as he gets out of office.
00:45:28Joe could be a convicted felon with all of the things that he's done.
00:45:31He's done horrible things.
00:45:33All of the death cause at the border, telling the Ukrainian people that we're going to want a billion dollars or you change the prosecutor.
00:45:41Otherwise, you're not getting a billion dollars.
00:45:43If I ever said that, that's quid pro quo, that we're not going to do anything.
00:45:48We're not going to give you a billion dollars unless you change your prosecutor having to do with the son.
00:45:52This man is a criminal.
00:45:54This man, you're lucky.
00:45:55You're lucky.
00:45:56I did nothing wrong.
00:45:57We'd have a system that was rigged and disgusting.
00:46:00I did nothing wrong.
00:46:01Thank you, President Trump.
00:46:02President Biden, you have said I'm coming right to you, sir.
00:46:05You want to respond?
00:46:07Go ahead.
00:46:08I'll give you a minute to respond.
00:46:09The idea that I did anything wrong relative to what you're talking about is outrageous.
00:46:14It's simply a lie.
00:46:15Number one.
00:46:16Number two, the idea that you have a right to seek retribution against any American just because your president is wrong is simply wrong.
00:46:24No president's ever spoken like that before.
00:46:26No president in our history has spoken like that before.
00:46:29Number three, the crimes that you are still charged with, and think of all the civil penalties you have.
00:46:34How many billions of dollars do you owe in civil penalties for molesting a woman in public, for doing a whole range of things,
00:46:42of having sex with a porn star on the night while your wife was pregnant?
00:46:47I mean, what are you talking about?
00:46:50You have the morals of an alley cat.
00:46:53Give him an answer.
00:46:54I didn't have sex with a porn star, number one.
00:46:57Number two, that was a case that was started and moved.
00:47:00They moved a high-ranking official, a DOJ, into the Manhattan DA's office to start that case.
00:47:06That case is going to be appealed and won.
00:47:09We had a very terrible judge, a horrible judge, Democrat.
00:47:13The prosecutor were all high-ranking Democrats, appointed people, both the civil and the criminal.
00:47:21He basically went after his political opponent because he thought it was going to damage me.
00:47:26And the public found out about these cases because they understand it better than he does.
00:47:29He has no idea what these cases are.
00:47:31But when they found out about these cases, you know what they did?
00:47:34My poll numbers went up, way up.
00:47:36You know that because you're reporting it.
00:47:38And we took in more money in the last two weeks than we've ever taken in in the history of any campaign.
00:47:44I don't think any campaign has ever taken hundreds of millions of dollars came pouring in
00:47:49because the public knows it's a scam and it's a guy that's after his political opponent because he can't win fair and square.
00:47:55Thank you, President Trump.
00:47:57President Biden, you have said, quote, Donald Trump and his MAGA Republicans are determined to destroy American democracy.
00:48:04Do you believe that the tens of millions of Americans who are likely to vote for President Trump will be voting against American democracy?
00:48:12The more they know about what he's done, yes.
00:48:15The more they know about what he's done.
00:48:17And there's a lot more coming.
00:48:19He's got a lot of cases down the road coming around.
00:48:21He's got a whole range of issues he has to face.
00:48:24I don't know what the juries will do, but I do know he has a real problem.
00:48:28And so the fact that could you ever think you hear any president say that I'm going to seek retribution?
00:48:34Do you ever hear any president say that I thought he brought some good ideas?
00:48:38What got me involved around the first place after my son had died, he decided in Iraq because of Iraq.
00:48:44I said I wasn't going to run again until I saw what happened in Charlottesville, Virginia.
00:48:48People coming out of the woods carrying swastikas on torches, torches, and singing the same anti-Semitic bio they sang back in Germany.
00:48:58And a young woman got killed.
00:49:00I spoke to the mother, and they asked him, they said, what do you think of those people?
00:49:06The people who, the ones who got killed, the one who tried to stop it, and the one who said, I think they're fine people on both sides.
00:49:12What American president would ever say?
00:49:16Nazis coming out of fields carrying torches, singing the same anti-Semitic bio, carrying swastikas.
00:49:23We're fine people.
00:49:25This is a guy who says Hitler's done some good things.
00:49:27I'd like to know what they are.
00:49:29The good things Hitler's done, that's what he said.
00:49:31This guy has no sense of American democracy.
00:49:34President Trump.
00:49:35Jake, both of you know that story has been totally wiped out.
00:49:39Because when you see the sentence, it said 100% exoneration on this.
00:49:44So he just keeps it going.
00:49:45He says he ran because of Charlottesville.
00:49:47He didn't run because of Charlottesville.
00:49:48He ran because it was his last chance.
00:49:51He's not equipped to be president.
00:49:53You know it, and I know it.
00:49:54It's ridiculous.
00:49:55We have a debate.
00:49:56We're trying to justify his presidency.
00:49:58His presidency is, without question, the worst president, the worst presidency in the history of our country.
00:50:05We shouldn't be having a debate about it.
00:50:07There's nothing to debate.
00:50:08He made up the Charlottesville story.
00:50:10And you'll see it's debunked all over the place.
00:50:13Every anchor, every reasonable anchor has debunked it.
00:50:17And just the other day it came out where it was fully debunked.
00:50:21It's a nonsense story.
00:50:23He knows that.
00:50:24And he didn't run because of Charlottesville.
00:50:25He used that as an excuse to run.
00:50:28President Biden.
00:50:29And debunked.
00:50:30It happened.
00:50:31All you have to do is listen to what was said at the time.
00:50:33And the idea that somehow that's the only reason I ran.
00:50:37I ran because I was worried a guy like this guy could get elected.
00:50:39If he thought they were good people coming out of that forest, carrying those woods, carrying those torches,
00:50:46then he didn't deserve to be president.
00:50:48Didn't deserve to be president at all.
00:50:50And the idea that he's talking about, all this being fabricated.
00:50:54We saw it with our own eyes.
00:50:55We saw what happened on January 6th.
00:50:57We saw the people breaking through the windows.
00:50:59We saw people occupying their, his own vice president.
00:51:02Look, there's a reason why 40 of his 44 top cabinet officers refused to endorse him this time.
00:51:09His vice president hasn't endorsed him this time.
00:51:11So why?
00:51:12Why?
00:51:13They know him well.
00:51:14They serve with him.
00:51:15Why are they not endorsing him?
00:51:17Thank you, President Biden.
00:51:18We're going to be right back with more from the CNN presidential debate.
00:51:32We'll be right back.
00:52:02We'll be right back.
00:52:32We'll be right back.
00:53:02We'll be right back.
00:53:32We'll be right back.

00:54:42We'll be right back.
00:54:43We'll be right back.
00:54:44We'll be right back.
00:54:45We'll be right back.
00:54:46We'll be right back.
00:54:47We'll be right back.
00:54:48We'll be right back.
00:54:49We'll be right back.
00:54:50We'll be right back.
00:54:51We'll be right back.
00:54:52We'll be right back.
00:54:53We'll be right back.
00:54:54We'll be right back.
00:54:55We'll be right back.
00:54:56We'll be right back.
00:54:57We'll be right back.
00:54:58We'll be right back.
00:54:59Welcome back to the CNN presidential debate live from Georgia.
00:55:11Let's talk about persistent challenges you both faced in your first terms and you'd certainly
00:55:16face again in a second term.
00:55:19President Biden, while black unemployment dropped to a record low under your presidency,
00:55:24black families still earn far less than white families.
00:55:28Black mothers are still three times more likely to die for pregnancy related causes
00:55:34and black Americans are imprisoned at five times the rate of white Americans.
00:55:39What do you say to black voters who are disappointed that you haven't made more progress?
00:55:43They acknowledge you made a lot of progress.
00:55:46Number one.
00:55:47The fact of the matter is more small black businesses than have been started in any time
00:55:51in history.
00:55:52Number two, the wages of black, black unemployment is the lowest level it's been in a long, long
00:55:58time.
00:55:59Number three.
00:56:00We find them trying to find housing for black Americans and dealing with the segregation
00:56:05that exists among these corporate, these corporate operations that collude to keep people out
00:56:12of their houses.
00:56:13And in addition to that, we find that the impact of on the, the choice that black families
00:56:23have to make relative to childcare is incredibly difficult.
00:56:28When we did the first major piece of legislation in the past, I was able to reduce black childcare
00:56:33costs, cut them in half, in half.
00:56:36We've got to make sure we provide for childcare costs.
00:56:39We've got to make sure because when you provide that childcare protections, you increase economic
00:56:45growth because more people can be in the, in the job market.
00:56:48So there's more to be done, considerably more to be done, but we've done a great deal so
00:56:53far and I'm not letting up and they know it.
00:56:56You have 49 seconds left.
00:56:58What do you say to black voters who are disappointed with the progress so far?
00:57:03I say, I don't blame them for being disappointed.
00:57:06Inflation is still hurting them badly.
00:57:07For example, I provided for the idea that any black family first time home buyer should
00:57:13get a $10,000 tax credit to be able to buy their first home so they can get started.
00:57:19I made sure that we're in a situation where all those black families and those black individuals
00:57:23who provided to have to take out student loans that were ballooning, that if they were engaged
00:57:29in nursing, doctor, and anything having to do with volunteerism, if they paid their bills
00:57:36for 10 years on their student debt, all the rest was forgiven after 10 years.
00:57:41Millions have benefited from that and we're going to do a whole lot more for black families.
00:57:46Thank you, President Trump.
00:57:48And he caused the inflation.
00:57:49He's blaming inflation and he's right, it's been very bad.
00:57:53He caused the inflation and it's killing black families and Hispanic families and just
00:57:57about everybody.
00:57:59It's killing people.
00:58:00They can't buy groceries anymore.
00:58:02They can't.
00:58:03You look at the cost of food where it's doubled and tripled and quadrupled.
00:58:07They can't live.
00:58:08They're not living anymore.
00:58:10He caused this inflation.
00:58:11I gave him a country with no, essentially no inflation.
00:58:15It was perfect.
00:58:16It was so good.
00:58:17All he had to do is leave it alone.
00:58:18He destroyed it with his green new scam and all of the other, all this money that's being
00:58:23thrown out the window.
00:58:25He caused inflation.
00:58:26As sure as you're sitting there, the fact is that his big kill on the black people is
00:58:33the millions of people that he's allowed to come in through the border.
00:58:36They're taking black jobs now and it could be 18, it could be 19 and even 20 million
00:58:41people.
00:58:42They're taking black jobs and they're taking Hispanic jobs and you haven't seen it yet,
00:58:47but you're going to see something that's going to be the worst in our history.
00:58:50Thank you.
00:58:51President Biden.
00:58:52There was no inflation when I became president.
00:58:55You know why?
00:58:56The economy was flat on its back.
00:58:5815% unemployment.
00:59:00He decimated the economy, absolutely decimated the economy.
00:59:04That's why there was no inflation at the time.
00:59:06There were no jobs.
00:59:07It provided thousands of millions of jobs for individuals who are involved communities,
00:59:12including minority communities.
00:59:13We made sure that they have health insurance.
00:59:16We have covered, if the ACA has increased, I made sure that they're $8,000 per person
00:59:22in the family to get written off in healthcare, but this guy wants to eliminate that.
00:59:26They tried 50 times.
00:59:28He wants to get rid of the ACA again and they're going to try again if they win.
00:59:32We find ourselves in a position where the idea that we're not doing any, I put more,
00:59:38we put more police on the street than any administration has.
00:59:41He wants to cut the cops.
00:59:43We're providing for equity, equity and making sure people have a shot to make it.
00:59:48There's a lot going on, but inflation, he caused it by his tremendous malfeasance in
00:59:56the way he handled the pandemic.
00:59:57Thank you.
00:59:58Another persistent challenge is the climate crisis.
01:00:012023 was the hottest year in recorded history and communities across the country are confronting
01:00:07the devastating effects of extreme heat, intensifying wildfires, stronger hurricanes
01:00:13and rising sea levels.
01:00:15Former President Trump, you've vowed to end your opponent's climate initiatives, but will
01:00:20you take any action as president to slow the climate crisis?
01:00:24Let me just go back to what he said about the police, how close the police are to him.
01:00:30Almost every police group in the nation from every state is supporting Donald J. Trump.
01:00:37Almost every police group and what he's done to the black population is horrible, including
01:00:42the fact that for 10 years he called them super predators.
01:00:45We can't in the 1990s, we can't forget that super predators was his name and he called
01:00:49it to him and they've taken great offense at it and now they see it happening.
01:00:53But when they see what I did for criminal justice reform and for the historically black
01:00:58colleges and universities where I funded them and got them all funded and the opportunity
01:01:04zones with with Tim, as you know, Tim Scott was incredible.
01:01:07He did a great job.
01:01:09Great senator from South Carolina.
01:01:11He came to me with the idea and it was a great idea.
01:01:13It's one of the most successful economic development acts ever in the country.
01:01:18Opportunity zones and the biggest beneficiary are blacks.
01:01:21And that's why we have the best numbers with them in maybe ever.
01:01:26They're saying ever.
01:01:27I read this morning where ever the best numbers he's lost much of the black population because
01:01:34he's done a horrible job for black people.
01:01:36He's also done a horrible job for Hispanics.
01:01:39But when you see these millions of people pouring into our country and they're going
01:01:43to take the jobs and it's already started and you haven't seen anything yet.
01:01:47It's a disaster.
01:01:48You've 38 seconds left.
01:01:50President Trump, will you take any action as president to slow the climate crisis?
01:01:55So I want absolutely immaculate, clean water and I want absolutely clean air.
01:02:01And we had it.
01:02:03We had H2O.
01:02:04We had the best numbers ever.
01:02:07And we did.
01:02:08We were using all forms of energy, all forms, everything.
01:02:12And yet during my four years, I had the best environmental numbers ever.
01:02:18And my top environmental people gave me that statistic just before I walked on the stage,
01:02:22actually.
01:02:23I don't know where the hell he's been.
01:02:26The idea that he said is true.
01:02:29I passed the most extensive, most extensive climate change legislation in history, in
01:02:35history.
01:02:36We find ourselves, and by the way, black colleges, I came up with $15 billion for HBCUs, Historic
01:02:43Black Universities and Colleges, because they don't have, they don't have the kind of contributors
01:02:48that they have to build these laboratories and the like.
01:02:52Any black student is capable in college to do what any white student can do.
01:02:56They just don't have the money.
01:02:57But now they'll be able to get those jobs in high tech.
01:02:59We're in a situation where the idea that he is claiming to have done something that had
01:03:06the cleanest water, the cleanest water, he hadn't done a damn thing to the environment.
01:03:11He pulled out of the Paris Peace Accord, Climate Accord.
01:03:15I immediately joined it, because if we reach 1.5 degrees Celsius at any one point, there's
01:03:21no way back.
01:03:22The only existential threat to humanity is climate change.
01:03:25And he didn't do a damn thing about it.
01:03:27He must undo all that I've done.
01:03:29The Paris Accord was going to cost us a trillion dollars and China nothing and Russia nothing
01:03:35and India nothing.
01:03:36It was a ripoff of the United States.
01:03:39And I ended it because I didn't want to waste that money because they treat us horribly.
01:03:43We were the only ones who was costing us money.
01:03:45Nobody else was paying into it.
01:03:47And it was a it was a disaster.
01:03:49But everything that he said just now, I'll give you an example.
01:03:52I heard him say before insulin.
01:03:53I'm the one that got the insulin down for the seniors.
01:03:56I took care of the seniors.
01:03:58What he's doing is destroying all of our medical programs because the migrants coming in.
01:04:03They want everybody.
01:04:04And look, I have the I have the biggest heart on the stage.
01:04:07I guarantee you that.
01:04:08And I want to take care of people.
01:04:10But we're destroying our country.
01:04:11They're taking over our schools, our hospitals, and they're going to be taking over Social
01:04:15Security.
01:04:16He is destroying Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
01:04:23The idea is that we, in fact, we were the only ones of consequence.
01:04:29We're not.
01:04:30We're not members of the Paris Accord.
01:04:33How can we do anything?
01:04:34We're not able to.
01:04:35The United States can't get this under control.
01:04:38One of the largest polluters in the world.
01:04:40Number one, we're making significant progress by 2035.
01:04:44We will have cut pollution in half.
01:04:46We have made we have made significant progress and will continue to make progress.
01:04:50We're going to set up a climate corps for thousands of young people will learn how to
01:04:54deal with just like the Peace Corps.
01:04:56And we're going to we're moving in directions that are going to significantly change the
01:05:00elements of cause of pollution.
01:05:02But the idea that he claims that he has the biggest heart up here and he's really concerned
01:05:08about about pollution and about climate.
01:05:12I've not seen any indication of that.
01:05:14And by the way, with regard to prescription drugs, one company agreed that they would
01:05:20reduce the price to thirty five dollars, which I was calling for one voluntarily.
01:05:25I made sure every company in the world, every pharmaceutical company cannot have to pay.
01:05:31And by the way.
01:05:33So every day, millions of Americans struggle just to make ends meet for many older Americans.
01:05:39Social Security provides a critical lifeline.
01:05:41President Biden, if nothing is done to Social Security, seniors will see their benefits
01:05:46cut in just over 10 years.
01:05:49Will you name tonight one specific step that you're willing to take to keep Social Security
01:05:53solvent?
01:05:54Yes.
01:05:55Make the very wealthy begin to pay their fair share.
01:05:58Right now, everybody making under 170 thousand dollars pays six percent of their income of
01:06:04their paycheck every single time they get a paycheck from the time the first one they
01:06:07get when they're 18 years old.
01:06:10The idea that they're going to I'm like I've been proposing that everybody they pay the
01:06:15millionaires pay one percent, one percent.
01:06:18So no one after I've not raised the cost of Social Security for anybody under 400 thousand
01:06:24dollars.
01:06:25After that, I began to make the wealthy begin to pay their fair share by increasing from
01:06:29one percent beyond to be able to guarantee the program for life.
01:06:33So you still have 82 seconds left.
01:06:35Are there any other measures that you think that would be able to help keep Social Security
01:06:39solvent or is just is that one enough?
01:06:41Well, that one enough will keep it solvent.
01:06:43But the biggest thing I'll do if we defeat this man, because he wants to get rid of Social
01:06:48Security.
01:06:49He thinks there's plenty to cut in Social Security.
01:06:51He's wanted to cut Social Security and Medicare both times.
01:06:54And that's what.
01:06:55And if you look at the program put forward by the House Republican Caucus that he supports
01:07:01is in fact want to cut it as well.
01:07:04The idea that we don't need to protect our seniors is ridiculous.
01:07:09We put we.
01:07:10And by the way, the American public has greater health care coverage today than ever before.
01:07:15And on the ACA, as I said, we're in a circumstance where four hundred thousand people, 40 million
01:07:23people would not have insurance because they have a pre-existing condition only allows
01:07:27them to have that insurance is the fact that they, in fact, are part of the ACA.
01:07:32And by the way, the other thing is we're in a situation where I talk about education
01:07:36for black communities.
01:07:38I've raised the number, the amount of money for Pell grants, another eight thousand dollars
01:07:43for anybody making under seventy thousand dollars a year going to be able to get fifteen
01:07:48thousand dollars toward the tuition.
01:07:50He just doesn't know what he's talking about.
01:07:53Thank you, President Biden.
01:07:54President Trump.
01:07:55So I've dealt with politicians all my life.
01:07:58I've been on this side of the equation for the last eight years.
01:08:03I've never seen anybody lie like this guy.
01:08:05He lies.
01:08:06I've never seen it.
01:08:07He can look you in the face.
01:08:08So I've got so many other things, too.
01:08:11And we mentioned the laptop.
01:08:12We mentioned Russia, Russia, Russia, Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine.
01:08:16Everything he does is a lie.
01:08:17It's misinformation and disinformation.
01:08:21The losers and suckers story that he made up is a total lie on the military.
01:08:25It's a disgrace.
01:08:27But Social Security, he's destroying it because millions of people are pouring into our country
01:08:32and they're putting them on to Social Security, they're putting them on to Medicare, Medicaid.
01:08:36They're putting them in our hospitals.
01:08:38They're taking the place of our citizens there.
01:08:41What they're doing to the V.A. to our veterans is unbelievable.
01:08:44Our veterans are living in the street and these people are living in luxury hotels.
01:08:48He doesn't know what he's doing.
01:08:50And it's really coming back.
01:08:52I've never seen such anger in our country before.
01:08:57The idea that veterans are not being taken care of, I told you before.
01:09:01By the way, when I said suckers and losers, he said he acknowledged after that he fired
01:09:05that general.
01:09:06That general got fired because he's the one who acknowledged that that's what he said.
01:09:11He was the one standing with Trump when he said it.
01:09:14Number one.
01:09:15Number two, the idea that we're going to be in a situation where all these millions and
01:09:20millions, the way he talks about it, illegal aliens are coming into the country and taking
01:09:25away our jobs.
01:09:26There's a reason why we have the fastest growing economy in the world, the reason why we have
01:09:30the most successful economy in the world.
01:09:33We're doing better than any other nation in the world.
01:09:35And by the way, those 15 Nobel laureates he talked about being phony, those 15 Nobel laureates,
01:09:41economists, they all said that if Trump is reelected, we're likely to have a recession
01:09:46and inflation is going to increasingly go up.
01:09:48And by the way, worst president history, 159 presidential scholars voted him the worst
01:09:54president in the history of the United States of America.
01:09:57President Biden, thank you so much.
01:09:58Let's turn to the cost of child care, which many American families struggle to afford.
01:10:02President Trump, both you and President Biden have tried to address this issue.
01:10:06But the average cost of child care in this country has risen to more than eleven thousand
01:10:10dollars a year per child.
01:10:11For many families, the cost of child care for two children is more than their rent.
01:10:17In your second term, what would you do to make child care more affordable?
01:10:22First to go back, the general got fired because he was no good.
01:10:26And if he said that, that's why he made it up.
01:10:28But we have 19 people that said I didn't say it.
01:10:30And they're very highly respected, much more so than him.
01:10:33The other thing is he doesn't fire people.
01:10:37He never fired people.
01:10:39I've never seen him fire anybody.
01:10:40I did fire a lot.
01:10:41I fired Comey because he was no good.
01:10:42I fired a lot of the top people at the FBI, drained the swamp.
01:10:46They were no good.
01:10:47Not easy to fire people.
01:10:48You'd pay a price for it.
01:10:49But they were no good.
01:10:50I inherited these people.
01:10:51I never fired him.
01:10:52I didn't put Comey there.
01:10:53He was no good.
01:10:54I fired him.
01:10:55This guy hasn't fired anybody.
01:10:56He never fires.
01:10:58He should have fired every military man that was involved with that Afghan.
01:11:02The Afghanistan horror show, the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country.
01:11:09He didn't fire.
01:11:10Did you fire anybody?
01:11:11Did you fire anybody that's on the border that's allowed us to have the worst border
01:11:14in the history of the world?
01:11:15Did anybody get fired for allowing 18 million people, many from prisons, many from from
01:11:22mental institutions?
01:11:23Did you fire anybody that allowed our country to be destroyed?
01:11:26Joe, our country is being destroyed as you and I sit up here and waste a lot of time
01:11:31on this debate.
01:11:32This shouldn't be a debate.
01:11:34He is the worst president.
01:11:35He just said about me because I said it.
01:11:38But look, he's the worst president in the history of our country.
01:11:41He's destroyed our country.
01:11:42Now all of a sudden, he's trying to get a little tough on the border.
01:11:45He come out, came out with a nothing, a nothing deal, and it reduced it a little bit, a little
01:11:50bit like this much.
01:11:51It's insignificant.
01:11:53He wants open borders.
01:11:55He wants our country to either be destroyed or he wants to pick up those people as voters.
01:12:00And I don't think we just can't let it happen.
01:12:03If he wins this election, our country doesn't have a chance, not even a chance of coming
01:12:10out of this rut.
01:12:11We probably won't have a country left anymore.
01:12:13That's how bad it is.
01:12:14He's the worst in history by far.
01:12:17Thank you, President Trump.
01:12:18President Biden.
01:12:19We're the most mired country in the world.
01:12:21We're the United States of America.
01:12:23There's nothing beyond our capacity.
01:12:25We have the finest military in the history of the world, the finest in the history of
01:12:29the world.
01:12:30No one thinks we're weak.
01:12:31No one wants to screw around with us.
01:12:34Nobody.
01:12:35Number one.
01:12:36Number two, the idea that we're talking about worst presidents.
01:12:39I wasn't joking.
01:12:40Look it up or go online.
01:12:41159 or 58, don't hold me to the exact number, presidential historians, they've had meetings
01:12:48and they voted who's the worst president in American history.
01:12:52One through best to worst.
01:12:53They said he was the worst in all of American history.
01:12:57That's a fact.
01:12:58That's not a that's not conjecture.
01:12:59He can argue the wrong, but that's what they voted.
01:13:02The idea that he is knowing doing anything to deal with child care.
01:13:07He did very for virtually nothing in child care.
01:13:09We should significantly increase the child care tax credit.
01:13:12We should significantly increase the availability of women and men or single parents to be able
01:13:18to go back to work.
01:13:19And we should encourage businesses to hold to have.
01:13:22Thank you, President Biden.
01:13:23President Trump.
01:13:24The question was about what would you do to make child care more affordable if you want
01:13:27to take your minute?
01:13:28Just you understand.
01:13:30We have Poland.
01:13:31We have other things that they ran the worst because what he's done is so bad.
01:13:36And they rate me.
01:13:37I'll show you.
01:13:38I will show you.
01:13:39And they rate me one of the best.
01:13:40OK.
01:13:41And if I'm given another four years, I will be the best.
01:13:44I think I'll be the best.
01:13:46Nobody's ever created an economy like us.
01:13:49Nobody ever cut taxes like us.
01:13:51He's the only one I know.
01:13:52He wants to raise your taxes by four times.
01:13:54He wants to raise everybody's taxes by four times.
01:13:57He wants the Trump tax cuts to expire.
01:14:00So everybody, including the two of you, are going to pay four to five times.
01:14:04Nobody ever heard of this before.
01:14:05All my life, I'd grow up and I'd see politicians talking about cutting taxes when we cut taxes.
01:14:10As I said, we did more business, Apple and all these companies.
01:14:14They were bringing money back into our country.
01:14:17The worst president in history by far.
01:14:20And everybody knows it.
01:14:21President Biden.
01:14:22Look, the fact of the matter is that he's dead wrong about he's increased.
01:14:27He's increased.
01:14:28He will increase the taxes on middle class people.
01:14:31I said I'd never raise a tax on anybody making less than $400,000.
01:14:35I didn't.
01:14:36But this tariff is 10 percent tariff.
01:14:39Everything coming into the country.
01:14:40You know what the economists say?
01:14:41It's going to cost the average American two thousand five hundred dollars a year more
01:14:46because they're going to have to pay the difference in food and all the things that are very important.
01:14:52Number two, he's in a situation where he talks about how he has not raised.
01:14:59He somehow helped the middle class middle class have been devastated by you.
01:15:03Now you want a new tax cut of five trillion dollars over the next 10 years, which is going
01:15:08to fundamentally bankrupt the country.
01:15:10You have the largest deficit of any president in American history.
01:15:13Number one.
01:15:14Number two, you have not, in fact, made any contact, any any any progress with China.
01:15:21We are the lowest trade deficit with China since 2010.
01:15:25Thank you, President Biden.
01:15:26You lost.
01:15:27Thank you, President Biden.
01:15:28Let's enter.
01:15:29Let's discuss an epidemic impacting millions of Americans that both of you have made a
01:15:32top priority in your first term, the opioid crisis.
01:15:36And for both of you, the number of overdose deaths in this country has gone up under your
01:15:42term.
01:15:43It went up under your term.
01:15:44It has gone up.
01:15:45Former President Trump, despite the efforts that both of you have made, more than 100,000
01:15:49Americans are dying from overdoses every year, primarily from fentanyl and other opioids.
01:15:54What will you do to help Americans right now in the throes of addiction who are struggling
01:15:59to get the treatment they need to finish up?
01:16:03We now have the largest deficit in the history of our country under this guy.
01:16:07We have the largest deficit with China.
01:16:10He gets paid by China.
01:16:11He's a Manchurian candidate.
01:16:12He gets money from China.
01:16:14We have.
01:16:15So I think he's afraid to deal with it or something.
01:16:17But do you notice he never took out my tariffs because we bring in so much money with the
01:16:21tariffs that I imposed on China.
01:16:23He never took him away.
01:16:24He can't because it's too much money.
01:16:26It's tremendous.
01:16:27And we saved our steel industries.
01:16:28And there was more to come.
01:16:30But he hasn't done that.
01:16:31But he hasn't cut the tariffs because he can't because it's too much money.
01:16:35But he's got the largest deficit in the history of our country, and he's got the worst the
01:16:41worst situation with China.
01:16:43China is going to own us if you keep allowing them to do what they're doing to us as a country.
01:16:48They are killing us as a country, Joe.
01:16:50And you can't let that happen.
01:16:51You're destroying our country.
01:16:54So President Trump, you have 67 seconds left.
01:16:56The question was, what are you going to do to help Americans in the throes of addiction
01:17:00right now who are struggling to get the treatment they need?
01:17:02Jake, we're doing very well in addiction until the covid came along.
01:17:06We had the two and a half, almost three years of like nobody's ever had before any country
01:17:10in every way.
01:17:12And then we had to get tough.
01:17:14And it was the drugs pouring across the border where it started to increase.
01:17:19We got great equipment.
01:17:20We bought the certain dog.
01:17:22That's the most incredible thing that you've ever seen, the way they can spot it.
01:17:26We did a lot.
01:17:27And we had we were getting very low numbers, very, very low numbers.
01:17:31Then he came along.
01:17:32The numbers.
01:17:33Have you seen the numbers now?
01:17:35It's not only the 18 million people that I believe is even low because they got a ways
01:17:39they don't even talk about got a ways, but the numbers of the amount of drugs and human
01:17:45trafficking in women coming across our border.
01:17:48The worst thing I've ever seen at numbers that nobody's ever seen under him because
01:17:53the border so bad.
01:17:55But the number of drugs coming across our border now is is the largest we've ever had
01:18:00by far.
01:18:01President Trump.
01:18:02Thank you, President Biden.
01:18:03Fentanyl and byproducts went down for a while.
01:18:07And I wanted to make sure we use the machinery that can detect fentanyl, these big machines
01:18:11that roll over everything that comes across the border.
01:18:14And it costs a lot of money.
01:18:15That was part of this deal we put together.
01:18:18It's bipartisan deal.
01:18:19More fentanyl machines, more and more be able to detect drugs, more and more of a numbers
01:18:24of of agents, more numbers of all the people at the border.
01:18:29And when we had that deal done, he went he called his Republican colleagues and don't
01:18:34do it.
01:18:35It's going to hurt me politically.
01:18:36Now, he never argued it's not a good bill.
01:18:39It's a really good bill.
01:18:40We need those machines.
01:18:42We need those machines.
01:18:43And we're coming down very hard in every country in Asia in terms of precursors for fentanyl.
01:18:49And Mexico is working with us to make sure they don't have the technology to be able
01:18:52to put it together.
01:18:54That's what we have to do.
01:18:55We need those machines.
01:18:57Thank you, President Biden.
01:18:58President Trump.
01:18:59And again, the question is about Americans in the throes of addiction right now, struggling
01:19:02to get the treatment they need this because this does pertain to it.
01:19:07He ended remain in Mexico.
01:19:09He ended catch and release.
01:19:10I made a catch and release in Mexico, not catch and release here.
01:19:14We had so many things that we had done, hard negotiations with Mexico, and I got it all
01:19:18for nothing.
01:19:20It's just like when you have a hostage.
01:19:21We always pay six billion dollars for every time we says a hostage.
01:19:25Now we have a hostage, a Wall Street Journal reporter, I think a good guy.
01:19:30And he's over there because Putin is laughing at this guy, probably asking for billions
01:19:35of dollars for the reporter.
01:19:37I will have him out very quickly as soon as I take office.
01:19:42Before I take office, I said by literally as soon as I win the election, I will have
01:19:47that reporter out.
01:19:49He should have had him out a long time ago.
01:19:51But Putin's probably asking for billions and billions of dollars because this guy pays
01:19:54it every time.
01:19:56We had two cases.
01:19:57We paid six billion dollars for five people.
01:19:59I got 58 people out and I paid essentially nothing.
01:20:04Thank you, President Trump.
01:20:05Now, let's turn to concerns that voters have about each of you.
01:20:09President Biden, you would be 86 at the end of your second term.
01:20:14How do you address concerns about your capability to handle the toughest job in the world well
01:20:20into your 80s?
01:20:21Well, first of all, I spent half my career being criticized as being the youngest person
01:20:28in politics.
01:20:29I was the second youngest person ever elected to the United States Senate.
01:20:33And now I'm the oldest.
01:20:34This guy's three years younger and a lot less competent.
01:20:37I think that just look at the record, look at what I've done, look how I've turned around
01:20:40the horrible situation he left me.
01:20:42As I said, 15 million new jobs, 800,000 manufacturing jobs, more investment in America, over millions,
01:20:49billions of dollars in private investment in enterprises that we are growing.
01:20:54We've, by the way, we brought off a lot of people.
01:20:58The whole idea of computer chips reached that 40 percent of the market.
01:21:02We invented those chips and we lost it because he was sending people to find the cheapest
01:21:08jobs overseas and to bring home a product.
01:21:11So I went to South Korea.
01:21:13I convinced Samsung to invest billions of dollars here in the United States.
01:21:18And guess what?
01:21:20Those fabs they call to build these chips, those fabs pay over $100,000.
01:21:26You don't need a college degree for them.
01:21:28There's billions, about $40 billion already being invested and being built right now in the United States,
01:21:34creating significant jobs for Americans all over from all over the world.
01:21:39President Biden, you have 40 seconds left.
01:21:41Would you like to add anything?
01:21:42Yeah, I would.
01:21:43The idea that somehow we are this failing country.
01:21:48I never heard a president talk like this before.
01:21:51We were the envy of the world.
01:21:53Name me a single major country president who wouldn't trade places with the United States of America
01:21:59for all our problems and all our opportunities.
01:22:01We're the most progressive country in the world in getting things done.
01:22:04We're the strongest country in the world.
01:22:06We're a country in the world who keeps our word and everybody trusts us.
01:22:10All of our allies and those who he calls up from Kim Jong-un, we send love letters to and Putin, etc.
01:22:19They don't want to screw around with us.
01:22:21Thank you.
01:22:22Former President Trump, to follow up, you would be 82 at the end of your second term.
01:22:27What do you say to voters who have concerns about your capabilities to serve?
01:22:32Well, I took two tests, cognitive tests.
01:22:34I aced them, both of them.
01:22:35As you know, we made it public.
01:22:37He took none.
01:22:38I'd like to see him take one, just one, a real easy one.
01:22:41Like, go through the first five questions.
01:22:42He couldn't do it.
01:22:43But I took two cognitive tests.
01:22:45I took physical exams every year.
01:22:48And, you know, we knock on wood, wherever we may have wood, that I'm in very good health.
01:22:53I just won two club championships, not even senior, two regular club championships.
01:22:57To do that, you have to be quite smart and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way.
01:23:02And I do it.
01:23:03He doesn't do it.
01:23:04He can't hit a ball 50 yards.
01:23:05He challenged me to a golf match.
01:23:07He can't hit a ball 50 yards.
01:23:08I think I'm in very good shape.
01:23:10I feel that I'm as in good a shape as I was 25, 30 years ago.
01:23:14Actually, I'm probably a little bit lighter, but I'm in as good a shape as I was years ago.
01:23:20I feel very good.
01:23:21I feel the same.
01:23:22But I took I was willing to take a cognitive test.
01:23:24And you know what?
01:23:25If I didn't do well, I aced him.
01:23:27Dr.
01:23:27Ronny Jackson, who's a great guy when he was White House doctor.
01:23:31And then I took another one, a similar one.
01:23:33And both one of them said they'd never seen anybody ace him.
01:23:36Thank you, President Biden.
01:23:39You can see he is six foot five and only 223 pounds or 20, 35 pounds.
01:23:45Well, you said six, four, 200.
01:23:48Well, anyway, that's what you're anyway.
01:23:50Just take a look at what he says he is.
01:23:52Take a look at what he is.
01:23:54Look, I'd be happy to have a driving contest with him.
01:23:57I got my handicap, which when I was vice president down to a six.
01:24:03And by the way, I told you before, I'm happy to play golf if you carry your own bag.
01:24:08I think you can do it.
01:24:10That's the biggest rival.
01:24:11He's a six handicap of all.
01:24:13I was an eight handicap.
01:24:14Yeah, eight.
01:24:17But I have, you know, I mean, I've seen you swing.
01:24:19I know you swing.
01:24:22President Trump, we're going to let's not act like children.
01:24:25You are a specific concern that voters have about you.
01:24:29Will you pledge tonight that once all legal challenges have been exhausted,
01:24:34that you will accept the results of this election, regardless of who wins?
01:24:39And you will say right now that political violence in any form is unacceptable?
01:24:45Well, I shouldn't have to say that.
01:24:46But of course, I believe that it's totally unacceptable.
01:24:50And if you would see my statements that I made on Twitter at the time,
01:24:53and also my statement that I made in the Rose Garden,
01:24:55you would say is one of the strongest statements you've ever seen.
01:24:58In addition to the speech I made in front of, I believe, the largest crowd I've ever spoken to.
01:25:03And I will tell you, nobody ever talks about that.
01:25:05They talk about a relatively small number of people that went to the Capitol,
01:25:09and in many cases were ushered in by the police.
01:25:12And as Nancy Pelosi said, it was her responsibility, not mine.
01:25:16She said that loud and clear.
01:25:17But the answer is, if the election is fair, free, and I want that more than anybody.
01:25:23And I'll tell you something.
01:25:25I wish he was a great president because I wouldn't be here right now.
01:25:28I'd be at one of my many places enjoying myself.
01:25:32I wouldn't be under indictment because I wouldn't have been his political appointment,
01:25:35you know, opponent, because he indicted me because I was his opponent.
01:25:40I wish he was a great president.
01:25:42I would rather have that.
01:25:44I wouldn't be here.
01:25:45I don't mind being here.
01:25:46But the only reason I'm here is he's so bad as a president
01:25:49that I'm going to make America great again.
01:25:51We're going to make America great again.
01:25:53We're a failing nation right now.
01:25:55We're a seriously failing nation.
01:25:57And we're a failing nation because of him.
01:26:00His policies are so bad.
01:26:02His military policies are insane.
01:26:06They're insane.
01:26:07These are wars that will never end with him.
01:26:09He will drive us into World War Three.
01:26:11And we're closer to World War Three than anybody can imagine.
01:26:15We are very, very close to World War Three.
01:26:18And he's driving us there.
01:26:19And Kim Jong Un and President Xi of China, Kim Jong Un of North Korea, all of these are Putin.
01:26:26They don't respect him.
01:26:27They don't fear him.
01:26:29They have nothing going with this gentleman.
01:26:31And he's going to drive us into World War Three.
01:26:35You want a World War Three, let him follow and win.
01:26:39And let Putin say, do what you want, NATO.
01:26:41Just do what you want.
01:26:43There's a thing called Article Five.
01:26:45An attack on one is an attack on all.
01:26:47A required response.
01:26:49The idea, the idea.
01:26:51I can't think of a single major leader in the world who wouldn't trade places
01:26:55with the job I've done and what they've done.
01:26:58Because we are a powerful nation.
01:27:00We have wonderful peace.
01:27:01Because of the people, not me.
01:27:02It's because of the American people.
01:27:04They're capable of anything.
01:27:05And they step up when they're needed.
01:27:06And right now, we're needed.
01:27:08We're needed to protect the world because our own safety is at stake.
01:27:12And again, you want to have a war, just let Putin go ahead and take Kiev.
01:27:16Make sure they move on.
01:27:18See what happens in Poland, Hungary, and other places along that border.
01:27:22Then you have a war.
01:27:23President Trump, as I come back to you for a follow-up,
01:27:26the question was, will you accept the results of this election, regardless of who wins?
01:27:33Just to finish what he said, if I might.
01:27:36Russia, they took a lot of land from Bush.
01:27:39They took a lot of land from Obama and Biden.
01:27:43They took no land, nothing from Trump.
01:27:46Nothing.
01:27:46He knew not to do it.
01:27:48Not going to play games with me.
01:27:49He knew that.
01:27:50I got along with him very well.
01:27:52But he knew not to play games.
01:27:54He took nothing from me.
01:27:56But now he's going to take the whole thing from this man right here.
01:28:00That's a war that should have never started.
01:28:02It would have never started ever with me.
01:28:06And he's going to take Ukraine.
01:28:08And, you know, you asked me a question before, would you do this?
01:28:11He's got us in such a bad position right now with Ukraine and Russia.
01:28:16Because Ukraine's not winning that war.
01:28:18He said, I will never settle until such time.
01:28:21They're running out of people.
01:28:22They're running out of soldiers.
01:28:23They've lost so many people.
01:28:24It's so sad.
01:28:25They've lost so many people.
01:28:27And they've lost those gorgeous cities with the golden domes that are a thousand years old.
01:28:32All because of him and stupid decisions.
01:28:35Russia would have never attacked if I were president.
01:28:37President Trump, the question was, will you accept the results of the election,
01:28:41regardless of who wins?
01:28:42Yes or no, please.
01:28:44If it's a fair and legal and good election, absolutely.
01:28:48I would have much rather accepted these.
01:28:51But the fraud and everything else was ridiculous.
01:28:55And if you want, we'll have a news conference on it in a week.
01:28:58Or we'll have another one of these in a week.
01:29:00But I will absolutely, there's nothing I'd rather do.
01:29:04It would be much easier for me to do that than I'm running again.
01:29:09I wasn't really going to run until I saw the horrible job he did.
01:29:14He's destroying our country.
01:29:15I would be very happy to be someplace else.
01:29:18In a nice location, someplace.
01:29:20And again, no indictments, no political opponent stuff.
01:29:24Because it's the only way he thinks he can win.
01:29:26But unfortunately, it's driven up my numbers and driven up to a very high level.
01:29:30Because the people understand it.
01:29:33Let's see what your numbers are when this election is over.
01:29:36Let's see.
01:29:37You're a whiner.
01:29:38When you lost the first time, you continued.
01:29:41You appealed and appealed the courts all across the country.
01:29:44Not one single court in America said any of your claims had any merit, state or local,
01:29:51none.
01:29:52But you continue to provoke this lie about somehow there's all this misrepresentation,
01:29:58all this stealing.
01:29:59There is no evidence of that at all.
01:30:02And I tell you what, I doubt whether you'll accept it because you're such a whiner.
01:30:06The idea if you lose again, you accepting anything, you can't stand the loss.
01:30:10Something snapped in you when you lost the last time.
01:30:12We'll be right back with more from the CNN presidential debate live from Georgia.
01:33:42It is now time for the candidates to deliver their closing statements as
01:34:03predetermined by a coin toss.
01:34:05We're going to begin with you, President Biden.
01:34:07You have two minutes.
01:34:09We've made significant progress from the debacle that was left by President Trump in his last
01:34:17term.
01:34:18We find ourselves in a situation where, number one, we have to make sure that we have a fair
01:34:24tax system.
01:34:25I ask anyone out there in the audience, anyone out watching this debate, do you think the
01:34:30tax system is fair?
01:34:31The fact is that, I said, nobody would make it under $400,000 had a single penny in their
01:34:38taxes.
01:34:39And if I'm reelected, that will be the case again.
01:34:43But this guy has increased your taxes because of the deficit, number one.
01:34:48He's increased inflation because of the debacle he left after the way he handled the pandemic.
01:34:54And he finds himself in a position where he now wants to tax you more by putting a 10%
01:34:59tariff on everything that comes in the United States of America.
01:35:02What I did, for example, he wants to get rid of the ability of Medicare for the ability
01:35:12for us to be able to negotiate drug prices with the big pharma companies.
01:35:16Well, guess what?
01:35:18We got it down to $35 for insulin instead of $400, no more than $2,000 for every senior,
01:35:28no matter how much prescription they need.
01:35:31You know what that did?
01:35:33That reduced the federal debt by $160 billion over 10 years because the government turned
01:35:40out to pay the exorbitant prices.
01:35:42I'm going to make that available to every senior, all along what's happening now, and
01:35:48everybody in America.
01:35:49He wants to get rid of that.
01:35:51I'm going to make sure that we have child care.
01:35:53We're going to significantly increase the credit people have for child care.
01:35:57I'm going to make sure we do something about what we're doing on lead pipes and all the
01:36:01things that are causing health problems for people across the country.
01:36:06We're going to continue to fight to bring down inflation and give people a break.
01:36:10Thank you, President Biden.
01:36:11President Trump, you now have two minutes for your closing statement.
01:36:14Like so many politicians, this man is just a complainer.
01:36:18He said, we want to do this.
01:36:19We want to do that.
01:36:20We want to get rid of this tax, that tax.
01:36:22But he doesn't do anything.
01:36:24He doesn't.
01:36:25All he does is make our country unsafe by allowing millions and millions of people to
01:36:29pour in.
01:36:30Our military doesn't respect him.
01:36:32We look like fools in Afghanistan.
01:36:34We didn't stop Israel.
01:36:36It was such a horrible thing.
01:36:37That would have never happened.
01:36:38It should have never happened.
01:36:39Iran was broke.
01:36:41Anybody that did business with Iran, including China, they couldn't do business with the
01:36:45United States.
01:36:45They all passed.
01:36:46Iran was broke.
01:36:47They had no money for Hamas or Hezbollah, for terror, no money whatsoever.
01:36:52Again, Ukraine should have never happened.
01:36:54He talks about all this stuff, but he didn't do it for three and a half years.
01:36:57We're living in hell.
01:36:59We have the Palestinians and we have everybody else writing all over the place.
01:37:03You talk about Charlottesville.
01:37:05This is 100 times Charlottesville, a thousand times.
01:37:08The whole country is exploding because of you, because they don't respect you.
01:37:12And they have to respect their president.
01:37:14And they don't respect you throughout the world.
01:37:17What we did was incredible.
01:37:18We rebuilt the military.
01:37:20We got the largest tax cut in history, the largest regulation cut in history.
01:37:24The reason he's got jobs is because I cut the regulations that gave jobs.
01:37:28But he's putting a lot of those regulations back on all of the things that we've done.
01:37:33Nobody's ever never seen anything like even from a medical standpoint.
01:37:37Right to try.
01:37:37Well, we can try space age materials instead of going to Asia or going to Europe and trying
01:37:43to get when you're terminally ill.
01:37:45Now you can go and you can get something.
01:37:46You sign a document.
01:37:47They've been trying to get it for 42 years.
01:37:50But you know what we did for the military was incredible choice for our soldiers, where
01:37:54our soldiers, instead of waiting for three months to see a doctor, can go out and get
01:38:00themselves fixed up and readied up and take care of themselves.
01:38:04And they're living.
01:38:05And that's why I had the highest approval rating in the history of the VA.
01:38:08So all of these things were in a failing nation.
01:38:11But it's not going to be failing anymore.
01:38:13We're going to make it great again.
01:38:14Thank you, former President Trump, President Biden.
