00:00The regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, has criticised the Malaysian Football League
00:09for reducing the penalties on Selangor FC for withdrawing from the Charity Shield match
00:14last month.
00:15In a sarcastic swipe at the MFL, Tunku Ismail said any club that breaks regulations in the
00:21future can ask their state's respective ruler to write a letter expressing anger over
00:26any penalties imposed by the league.
00:29Tunku Ismail, who owns the Johor Darul Tazim Football Club, pointed out that JDT have been
00:34fined hundreds of thousands of ringgit in the past and that he had even been given a
00:38six-month ban from all football activities in 2013.
00:42The ban, which came with a RM18,000 fine, was for criticising the league's referees.
00:48However, he said the sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim, did not intervene by issuing a statement
00:53or writing a letter to the league.
00:56Yesterday, Selangor's Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said he was extremely angered by
01:00the MFL's decision to impose a RM100,000 fine and dock three points from Selangor FC
01:07after they withdrew from last month's Charity Shield match against JDT.
01:11Sultan Sharafuddin said the penalties imposed on Selangor FC were excessive and unreasonable
01:17given that the victory had already been awarded to the opposing team.
